25.01.2022 2 whole days off looking at the most amazing gardens for the Mareeba District 51st Annual Garden Awards. Unbelievable standards of work. One of the most enjoyable things I've done in a long time - I cannot believe how talented and dedicated all the entrants are. Will post pictures after the awards but I'm just loving this...

25.01.2022 Getting some help with my new veggie garden, weeding on a grand scale and finishing the new gravel around the stables from Harry at Tinnaburra Earthmoving. I was told that no one could get a machine in this space - Harry doing an awesome job leveling the area, filling the beds with beautiful potting mix from Tropical Peat and Wongabel deco paths. I thought I'd have to fill all the beds and make the paths by hand. Feeling very grateful for good operators!! The girls aren't even slightly excited about the activity. Just a couple of shots of work in progress..

23.01.2022 So I know that Cairns Regional Council won't let us use this beautiful plant - Black Leaved Sweet Potato (Ipomaea batatas 'Blackie') because it is just too vigorous, but for us who weed with a lawnmower in the wet, it suits us just fine. Stops the arguments that we usually have when Kevin gets a bit keen - just love this plant. There's a lime green one as well. Looks amazing when the pink Pentas are flowering behind it.

22.01.2022 Some inspiration from Hampshire gardens. Weather is just wonderful. Everything we have seen so far is very traditional as we are in a rural area (some lovely detailing in edges and pergolas - great metalwork - I'm going home to buy a welder) - so different to the gardens we do in Australia- looking forward to Chelsea on Wednesday. Looking for ideas on vegie gardens.

21.01.2022 Why can't gabions be made with a delicious-looking basket? Such a good idea for walls but I'd like to see some rust.....looking forward to seeing how it looks with time.

21.01.2022 AFP Building Sheridan Street for Adco Constructions. Brilliant developer let us put everything at semi-mature sizes. Great contractors, great job. Thanks to everyone, especially Miles of Miles of Landscaping and Peter M.

21.01.2022 Hi Landscape friends and fellow gardeners - I've just subscribed to this amazing site http://plantfileonline.net/ I'm tempted not to share as it quite extraordinary in the amount of information that's been stored under each plant. Designed by a lovely and super knowledgeable guy who has just spent an hour giving me a personal tutorial on line on how to use it for my business. Very reasonable pricing - will save me hours of research. I just have to add in our local flora now - looks quite straightforward to use.

18.01.2022 First waterlily of the season. Always such a surprise when they peak out of those green leaves. I forget how white they are.

18.01.2022 Another house in Townsville with Terry McGuire and crew. Wonderful owners, great contractor and team. Really fun job. Love it when I get to stand there and play with the plants. So much more fun than just drawing and imagining. Lots of hardscaping on this one - photos of the plants still to come...good excuse for another visit to Townsville

17.01.2022 Day 2 of the veggie gardens -getting some help for the edges for the berry garden and the vine patch. Thanks Kevin Quigg and Greg Lindsay. It's going to look a lot better with plants. I know they look a bit boring at the moment but here are the photos you asked for Kevin.

14.01.2022 Just love this plant - Lomanda x 'Lucky Stripe'. I hope it survives our difficult humid conditions in Cairns as it's a great addition to the landscape plant palette. I used it here in a commercial project for Keir Qld offices.

14.01.2022 Busy end to a month of many new projects. Finally starting to catch up on all those big jobs and get them out into the field. Favourite this month has been plans for a rainforest in Alice Springs - at the client's request. Hoping it's going to work - certainly put a lot of thought into this one. Love Alice and the chance to use those wonderful Central Desert Plants. Hoping I get back there soon...

13.01.2022 Residential Property in Redlynch

11.01.2022 Have been playing around using sketchup for quick sketches to explain how the plans are going to look in 3D. Still pretty rubbish at it but it helps explain the tricky bits quickly and much better than my squiggles all over the page. Can only get better......

10.01.2022 Whilst hunting for a giant stone pot to plant bamboos in for a landscape project I found this from bamboo land near Brisbane. If only......

09.01.2022 And the Champion Garden....unbelievable! There was a lot of competition but the colour and plant combinations in this one would make any garden designer envious. Gotta get some better photos though...

09.01.2022 My first ground orchid in Australia at new customer's property at Koah. Wild excitement - I think it is the Nodding Swamp Orchid - Geodorum pictum, growing in a group at the edge of a stream.

08.01.2022 Very happy with this plant combination - all doing very well!

06.01.2022 And more sketches - landscape design for Keir QLD in Rutherford St, North Cairns. Amazingly the completed building and landscape looks uncannily similar.

06.01.2022 So the judging is over and results are out - the 51st Mareeba District Annual Garden Competition (part of the Mareeba Rodeo event). I attended the awards ceremony yesterday which was as enjoyable as visiting the gardens and meeting the owners. What a great event! Lovely people - thank you to the committee and to the absolutely amazing group of entrants (and for my beautiful flowers - worth a photo too). I'd highly recommend this competition to anyone in the Mareeba area. You...r garden doesn't have to be large and can still be developing. It was such a good opportunity to meet people who were without exception passionate about what they do. I took around 450 (mostly bad photos) that don't do the gardens justice - hadn't considered how bright it was out here and must learn to use filters. I'll keep posting them as I can (couldn't fit everyone in this post so I've just selected a random few See more

03.01.2022 A bright, cheery and tough scheme for new accommodation units at St. John's Assisted care facility. A new addition to a development we planted perhaps ten years ago. Amazing how tough these plants are. Very little has need replacing in this time - quite an achievement in the tropics with all that concrete. note how far apart we plant everything as it spreads so quickly.
