12.01.2022 It's Trans Awareness Week, leading up to Transgender Day of remembrance this Friday. We have a special announcement this week: our new G Clinic! Here is Raylene, lead nurse for planning this project: "We have exciting news. We are trialing a booked appointment clinic for our Trans*, gender diverse, Brotherboy and Sistergirl clients. We will have both a nurse and a doctor clinic available for 30-minute booked appointments every Wednesday mornings from 08.30am 12noon.... The doctor clinic can be used for a medical review, scripts, hormone implants and the nurse clinic for hormone injections and routine bloods, as an example. You can have sexual health checks and chats with us, and we offer many self collected tests as well. The aim of this clinic is to provide improved access, reduced waiting times and continuity of care for our clients. It will be a dynamic clinic in which we will continually review and shape the service to the needs of our clients. I hope you can utilise this clinic and we value any feedback you may have. If you would like to make a booking, please phone Cairns Sexual Health Service on 4226 4769. Book into the G clinic with either the nurse or the doctor. 08.01.2022 Today we acknowledge International Overdose Awareness Day. Its a very sad day of remembrance for many of us and our families and friends, as over 4 people die of unintentional overdose in Australia every day (Australias Annual Overdose Report 2019). This post below from our friends at the Qld Injectors Health Network (QuIHN) offers some really great tips for overdose prevention, including having Naloxone available for people at risk. You can get Naloxone free at Cairns S...exual Health Service (injection or nasal spray) to have on hand Naloxone is a short-acting medicine that can temporarily reverse an overdose caused by opioid drugs (like heroin, or strong painkillers that contain morphine or oxycodone). A dose of Naloxone can help a person to breathe properly and regain consciousness after theyve had too much of an opioid drug. Even if Naloxone is used, an ambulance should still be called by phoning triple zero (000). See more
