25.01.2022 The Cairns Young Chamber has been involved in the stakeholder group working strategically over the past few months to put together an innovative stimulus package for our region. Yesterday we joined with 20+ organisations - representing more than 1000 businesses/individuals across the region - to launch a $180 million Green & Blue Economic Stimulus Package proposal for Tropical North Queensland. The package is designed to create jobs and new business opportunities, and better ...protect this regions reefs and rainforests through a series of shovel-ready projects; whilst being part of a much bigger picture of becoming Australias Smart Green Capital. JUTE Theatre Company is offering an opportunity for one young (18 30 years) emerging leader to take up an observation position on the JUTE Board of Directors. The observer role will allow you to understand the process of joining a board and what to expect when you are on a board. The Board Observer is invited to attend all monthly meetings of the JUTE Board of Directors, held either virtually (during COVID-19 restrictions) or face to face. 22.01.2022 [ CYC Focus Group - we want your voice! ] What can we do to support our young people thru and beyond COVID-19? Thats what were asking you!... Theres lots being done by our peak representative bodies in the region to advocate to Government, what FNQ needs to recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19. And we wanted to ensure the voice of our younger business owners, leaders, professionals and do-ers is being included. CYC are holding three, online focus groups next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening to discuss what measures we can be putting forward and advocating for, to support those in our community 18 - 35yrs. Each group will be facilitated by a different member of the CYC Committee, and a final briefing paper will be drafted putting forward what is discussed and the ideas developed. That paper will be shared with Advance Cairns, TTNQ, Cairns Regional Council and of course our Cairns Chamber of Commerce to be considered as part of the ongoing Economic Response and Recovery for FNQ. Thats the question we kicked off the first of CYCs Economic Stimulus & Recovery Focus Groups with last night. Over the next hour we covered some serious territory! We talked about grants and funding, accessibility to local leadership, connectivity and working from home, education, upskilling, jobs, career paths, r...egional scholarships, bringing students north for study, retaining added Govt capacity after COVID, side gigs, B2B marketplaces for young entrepreneurs, targeted programs for local businesses to skill-up and win more local work, more help for young people to get onto the property ladder, and combatting the hole in our tourism and hospitality workforce that emerges when our economy is slower to recover and young people move south for jobs. It was fast-paced, invigorating and highly tactical to driving improved post-COVID outcomes for our 18 - 35yr olds in FNQ.
