20.01.2022 Students: You’ve Got Email! Students’ Term 4 timetables have been emailed to their school email accounts. A paper copy will be issued to students on Tuesday, but as many subjects have changed the day and time they were on, we have made this information available now. Students can log on to their school email at home via Outlook in a web browser, by searching for OWA or Managed Internet Services. They will need their log on ID and password that they use to access computer...s at school. Note: IT assistance will resume on Tuesday, so if you experience any difficulty logging on, this may only be addressed once students return to school.

19.01.2022 2021 Enrolments for Year 7 Now Open Enrolment packs are now available from our front office for our incoming 2021 Year 7 cohort; these have been sent home with Year 6 Calliope State School students. We are very excited about seeing our school grow with this new group of students joining the crew.

11.01.2022 2020 QMEA & QGC Drone Challenge On Thursday, August 20 (Week 6), Calliope SHS had five student teams participated in the 2020 QMEA and QGC Drone Challenge. After weeks of practising, students were challenged to perform a rescue mission, coding a path so the drone could reach its destination, and other tasks. Not only did our students need to show off their coding and drone piloting skills, the experience required students to practise their team work, communication, and proble...m-solving skills. As a young school, we were thrilled to have one of our teams place in the top three overall. Congratulations, Tarnayh, Velandra and Addision on your third place effort. All of our students are commended for their dedication and maturity in taking on this venture. Calliope SHS would like to thank David Capill and Toolooa State High School for hosting this competition and Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy, QGC and CQUniversity Australia for their support of the event. Thank you, too, to Mr Khai, Ms Jodie and Ms Bonnie for your support of our students and coaching them for this competition. #attitudestrengthpurpose

10.01.2022 COVID-19 Information Calliope SHS, along with the wider Gladstone Community, is watching with interest recent developments in relation to changes in Queensland's COVID-19 situation. We wish to reassure our school community that the health and wellbeing of our students and staff is of utmost importance, and consequently we remain vigilant in following directives and guidelines from Queensland Health and the Queensland Department of Education. Some key points to share with ...our school community as of 5.30pm today: * At this point in time, our school will remain open and learning taking place until 3pm on Thursday, April 1, 2021. If this advice changes, we will inform parents and carers via social media and email in a timely fashion. * Students are welcome, but are not required, to wear masks at school. Staff are not required to wear masks, unless in situations where social distancing with other adults is not possible. This is consistent with guidelines received. * All families (of students and staff) are advised to follow the guidelines related to contact tracing, available from Queensland Health here: https://www.qld.gov.au//cor/current-status/contact-tracing This includes the advice that "anyone who was in Greater Brisbane on or since 20 March but has since left must follow the same lockdown rules as for Greater Brisbane." (as per https://www.qld.gov.au//current-st/urgent-covid-19-update) * If your student will be absent from school, please notify the school via [email protected] or by calling 4975 9777. We all have a role to play in minimise the potential impact and spread of COVID-19. If you, or any members of your household, feel unwell or develop symptoms associated with COVID-19, please stay home and seek appropriate medical advice. We thank you for your co-operation and working with us through this uncertain period.

(Plus, if you’ve already bought one this morning, you can go guilt free and get seconds now - no-one will ever know )

A plastic container has been set up in the front office for items to be left. Please ensure items are not perishable and that they have not been opened. Brand new personal hygiene items are also welcomed.

06.01.2022 Congratulations to Declan (Year 7) for his acceptance and participation in Instrumental Music's State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) over the weekend. SHEP was held in Rockhampton and consisted of 155 secondary students from 31 schools. Conductors and staff in attendance commented on how much the students accomplished and congratulated them all for their admirable representation of their schools. Congratulations on your achievement, attitude and commitment, Declan! #attitudestrengthpurpose

06.01.2022 You still have three hours today to pick up those things you need from Bunnings and swing past the Calliope State High School P&C’s sausage sizzle fundraiser. Don’t have any cash at home? Not a worry - they have EFTPOS available! #yumyum

05.01.2022 The Calliope SHS crew wish all our students and their families a safe, enjoyable school holidays. We look forward to seeing you rested and refreshed when school resumes on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.

05.01.2022 This fortnight's newsletter is up and available from the school website: https://calliopeshs.eq.edu.au//n/20200903%20newsletter.pdf

05.01.2022 A reminder for any adults (including parents and carers) if they enter our school grounds from now until the end of term: face masks need to be worn, as per this directive - https://www.health.qld.gov.au//cho-public-health-direction * Note: as per yesterday’s post, students are not being required to wear a mask at school and staff are permitted not to wear a mask, unless social distancing between adults is not possible. Any questions, please message us or contact our school’s Communication Officers.

05.01.2022 Will we be third time lucky? First, we cancelled because of the rain. Now, with the recent and local COVID-19 events, the decision has been made to cancel the school Cross Country tomorrow. We have rescheduled the event and it will now be run on Wednesday, April 21 (first Wednesday of the term). Even so, our special Cross Country menu will still go ahead tomorrow. If families no longer wish to have their order filled (for example, not at school tomorrow), they need to go in to the Qkr! app and cancel before 9am tomorrow. All orders received by 9am tomorrow will be processed as planned.

01.01.2022 CSHS Athletics Carnival This Friday, September 18, (last day of Term 3), will be Calliope High's first Athletics Carnival. Unfortunately, due to current COVID-19 informed restrictions, we are unable to have spectators at this year's event. To help us have a smooth, enjoyable carnival all round, here are some other points of which parents, carers and students should take note: Students are permitted to wear their house colours in lieu of their regular school uniform t...hat day. Clothing still needs to be sun safe, absent of inappropriate images or wording, and closed-in footwear worn. Students should all be wearing their school hat (no caps permitted). Students are to go to Pastoral Care in the morning, then they will move to the oval once rolls are marked. Sunscreen will be available, but students are encouraged to bring their own and apply it regularly through the day. Some events will be run in lunch breaks this week in lead up to students; these will be communicated through student notices. The javelin events will be Wednesday, September 16 (for females) and Thursday, September 17 (for males) from on the school oval from 3.15pm to 3.45pm. Again, we are unable to have spectators. Consent forms for students wishing to participate in the javelin, discus and/or the high jump (fosbury flop technique) need to be returned to Ms Janelle or the office prior to the events. Update: due to unforeseen circumstances, our school canteen will unavailable the day of the carnival. Students will need to bring their own lunch for the day. We look forward to the carnival...and may the best team win!
