25.01.2022 1st May Winter is coming

23.01.2022 Jan moved to Caloundra in 1952 with her two month old son. The were founding members of the Caloundra Power Boat Club and when the old lighthouse was moved in 1970 she did the Council approval drawings. She did drafting work for spec builders and went on to develop her own properties. She and daughter Cherie recall their memories. See all five interviews www.sunshinecoastplaces.com.au there's a link on the home page

23.01.2022 A nice winter surf at Moffat this morning

23.01.2022 I did this short movie of Stewart taking his hang glider for a spin on our afternoon walk at Moffat yesterday

22.01.2022 Hi All If you missed out on visiting for Open House last Satutday, you have another chance this Saturday 26th October. Adults $5, Children free Here are some images, courtesy Sunshine Coast Open House 2019 and Wayne Barbe. (images 3,4&5) Special thanks to Sunshine Coast Council for supporting the event.

21.01.2022 We are open this Saturday 22nd Feb 2020 Following are some photos sent in by Sharon McGoldrick from her recent visit. Also a photo of Fingal Heads Lighthouse An in other news, we have borrowed these Fresnel lenses from Council. At this stage the origin is unknown - I'm guessing air navigation - they each had two 2500W lamps so pretty bright. We should be able to show how they worked, but we need to do some research into their origins... Any thoughts?

20.01.2022 Robert Strom sent this photo of his favorite lighthouse: Tourlitis Lighthouse in Greece and told us about the Great Lighthouses of the World Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Great-Lighthouses-of-the-World-103329621296564/ Worth a look

20.01.2022 Special thanks to Barbara Stevenson (nee Jempson) and Barbara Want from the Nambour Museum for donating this Caloundra souvenir spoon. We will have to work out how to display it at the lighthouses. You can see the the red sector added when the old lighthouse went electric, so the image is between 1942 and 1968 when the Signal Station was built. "I am delighted that my gift of the teaspoon is proving to be of interest to your museum, such a better place for it to be than at the back of my cutlery drawer"

19.01.2022 Those sunsets keep on coming - this is from Monday

17.01.2022 Hi All Next Open Day,and first for the year is Saturday 25th January. Over Christmas we had a visitor who recognized Vance Palmer as a past student of Ipswich Grammar School - Vance lived in Caloundra with partner Nettie, and wrote "The Passage" a novel, but with descriptions obviously of Caloundra, including the individual personalities.... The reminiscences of Dulcie Kelly, whose father Oliver Birrell was keeper in the 1920s, help keep the story alive. (Sunshine Coast Library have an interview with Dulcie) Newspaper clip courtesy Sunshine Coast Daily and Stan Tutt

16.01.2022 Some photos from 1999

16.01.2022 Hi everyone We have an open day this Saturday 9th November. Here are some info on some of the shipping incidents over the decades

16.01.2022 We have an Open Day at the lighthouses this Saturday Feb 8th 9:00am till 3:00pm Love a good sunset - this was after our General meeting last Tuesday

15.01.2022 A beautiful sunset photo taken by Rosemary Stynes

15.01.2022 Dawn from the lighthouses

13.01.2022 The surf at Moffat has been very pretty for the last couple of days. But the headland is losing chunks of rock as these photos from 2018,19 & 20 show. The same point is shown with an arrow for comparison. I guess this has been a continuing process since the end of the last ice age 8-10,000 years ago.

12.01.2022 Welcome to 2020 Attached are photos of the Kiama NSW lighthouse from Pamela, and a view from the Signal Station taken on Monday morning when we took down the Christmas lights Next Open Day is Jan 25th... The Lighthouses of Australia book is now available as a free eBook - Thanks to Ron Turner http://www.esplash.me//etbook_lighthouses_of_australia_by_

12.01.2022 Hi All Tomorrow is the last Open Day at the lighthouses for 2019 so take the opportunity to visit us. Photos are the Christmas lights taken after our get-together on the 30th

12.01.2022 Still a bit difficult to open up for the public, but in the meantime here is a nice sunset at Moffat from late last month

11.01.2022 Next Open Day is Sat 23 November. Photos from 1992 and 1996 of the old lighthouse at Golden Beach and the new lighthouse at Kings Beach

10.01.2022 Thanks Barbara for this great sunset photo

10.01.2022 More people hanging around at Moffat

10.01.2022 We would normally be open on the the second Saturday of the month. Unfortunately the lighthouses are not suited to social distancing and we have an aging volunteer base, so, not for now Cheers I've included some illustrations from our 2018 CMP for your interest

10.01.2022 Happy New Year! A select few got to see the fireworks from the Signal Station Next Open day is 25th January, but you can book a private tour anytime

09.01.2022 Thanks Pamela for these images, and thanks to Sunshine Coast Council for the new signage at the 1970-1999 site of the old lighthouse when it was at Golden Beach. (The rumours that it was an alien landing site are finally put to rest) Nice of them to say "the structure partially collapsed" when, in fact, we managed to drop it from the crane.

08.01.2022 Sorry, owing to the virus, we are going quiet for a while.

08.01.2022 Another photo from Barbara

07.01.2022 The "Loo with as View" in Mooloolaba is under threat of redevelopment by Council, to be replaced with a new building to the north. In my humble opinion, the place would tick the boxes on a number of the local heritage criteria. The toilet block and viewing platform were designed in 1997 by architects Lindsay and Kerrie Clare and rolled into a Council placemaking project. I have posted some more photos and information at... www.sunshinecoastplaces.com.au Unfortunately Facebook has issues with letting me link to the exact page, so you will have to navigate to Mooloolaba via the sidebar or search Loo with a View See more

06.01.2022 Liked the mural at the Corner Shop in Bulcock St - will be even better when the lighthouse is wired up

05.01.2022 Thanks to Neville & Irene for donating this folding tumbler - Neville said the image was from the mid 1950s

04.01.2022 Russel’s sunrise photo

04.01.2022 It seems like a long time since an Open Day but of course it's only three weeks - hope to see lots of people this Saturday 14th March. Photos are of Ballina Lighthouse, which we stumbled upon on our travels. Starting to find out more about our new lenses - now we need to figure out where they were deployed.

03.01.2022 It's time to acquit year two our three year Community Partnership Grant from the Sunshine Coast Council, so it's a good time to acknowledge the assistance Council give us for basic running expenses. Council's Heritage Section also assists with workshops and general advice. The photo of Barrie is by Lara-Jayne Logan, highly commended in the 2017 Open House photography contest, and the Caloundra State School visit in 2016
