Self Reflection Logs is a great way of providing a snapshot around your nutrition, training, sleep, stress, even toilet habits It literally lays out what you are doing right in front of you!! You write down -What you Eat, and at what Time... -When you went to Bed, and when you Woke up -If you went for that day -How you were feeling that day I use this to see how my clients are going going, and to get an idea of their habits. This allows me to work closely with my clients, refining their daily habits and choices, making for faster and better results. It was a great tool provided to me by mentor extraordinaire Mark Ottobre. 23.01.2022 Big shout out to my client Julie who finished the Gold Coast marathon yesterday. Fantastic work!! Julie came to me 16 weeks ago needing to rehab her troublesome ITB, picked when attmpting her last marathon. With the goal of running the Gold Coast this year, we set to work building her strength legs and glutes in particular. This was so that the repetitive movement of running wouldn't cause any further trouble to her ITB, or any other part of her body. She had a great prep,... and didn't miss a beat the whole time! 21.01.2022 Training from home has given me a chance to try lots of different exercises and training methods that I probably wouldn't have done if things were "normal". Here I am doing Pistol Squats. 5 sets of 6 reps, with a 4010 tempo. I haven't attempted these in about 2 or 3 years. Was fun to do them again. 21.01.2022 C L I E N T S P O T L I G H T There is so much I can say about my client Rick @castiel_the_french_bulldog. So much I can say about his fantastic progress. But I am going to focus on this video. When Rick and I started working together in September, he had little to no flexibility. There was no way he could get his hands behind the bar to squat. Fast forward to today, and he has done a PB for his back squat ... Few more tweaks, and more practice with his squats, and Rick will be doubling that PB in no time!! 19.01.2022 When your wife says your butt is getting small, then there is only one thing to do. Break out the Bands!! . This exercise is Romanian Deadlifts with Bands. Try this one at home . You attach one band to something fixed, and the other end around your hips. The other band under you feet (or you can substitute with a weight). Key here is to drive your hips back, hands go down beside your legs, and then tightly squeeze your glutes (butt cheeks) as you stand back up. Hold in a... tall standing position, squeezing your bum as hard as you can. . 18.01.2022 RETURNING TO THE GYM Finally! Gyms have been back across these last 2 weeks. But, if like us at commercial gyms, you have been limited in being able to get into the gym, you probably won't have been able to get back to into a regular routine like you were before lockdown. So I want to take this moment to remind you all to BUILD UP SLOWLY. DON'T RUSH BACK to the same weights you were lifting before lockdown. Take your time to make sure you are in control of the movement ...again. If you don't, you run the risk of injuring yourself and needing to do rehab to get your body right again. By taking your time now to progress back to the weights you were lifting before, it will be lot quicker than getting injured, needing to do rehab and building up again afterwards. 16.01.2022 SHOES Getting the right shoes is very important. Comfort, stability, and support are all very important factors to choosing the right shoe. But also as important is what type of exercise are you going to do in that shoe. Weights: if you are doing weight work then I would look at a flatter soled shoe with less padding. This will give better feeling during your lifting. These are either minimalist shoes or weight lifting shoes... Running: If you are running, then a shoe with more padding and support is going to be better. You can build up running in minimalist shoes, but if you are a casual runner, a proper running shoe is better here. These are the 2 pairs of new shoes I've bought in the last 2 weeks. The bright yellow shoes are my new runners, and the rainbow pair are for lifting/work. Both have different purposes depending on what I am using them for. And by the way. 15.01.2022 New Years Musings. Yesterday as I was sitting between sets of my New Years Day workout, I couldn't help but reflect on New Years Resolutions. Majority of us will state how the next year is going to better than the year before (or how much we hated the year that been). And although I agree we should all strive for more, and strive to be better, we don't take the time to reflect on the year we've just had. The year you had probably wasn't so bad that you need to throw out your ...life and create a new one. . Reflect on what you liked about the year, and do more of it in 2019. Take what you didn't like in 2018 and do less of it. Imagine how much happier you would be if you just did that. If you have a big goal, then set a plan of how you are going to make it happen. Put $50 in savings every week so you can go on that holiday you want Add in a 30 mins walk every day listening to your favourite music to start losing weight The changes don't need to be big. They simply need to be consistent so that you make progress towards your 'Resolution' . . So take the time to reflect to on 2018 and list 5 to 10 things that were great about that year. 09.01.2022 ISOMETRIC HOLD TO PRE FATIGUE . If you're finding your workouts becoming a little easier (especially with legs), now that we are 4 weeks into self isolation, then give this a try. . You will need a towel. You wil then perform the movement you are targeting (in this video it is squats), and try to push into the finish position of the movement. The idea is that you don't get past the mid point of the movement. And then you hold that position. Aim for 30 secs, then do the fu...ll range of your movement afterwards. . This is a great opportunity to work out any technique kinks as well. Because, as you are holding that position, you can focus on making sure your body position is in correct technique. Holding that position will also reinforce that technique as well. . 06.01.2022 I want to give a shout out to this amazing lady Annette (pictured left, but the lady on the right is amazing too). Last weekend she completed her 6th Oxfam 100km Trailwalker. I'll say that again. 6th!! . She is an incredible woman who always puts in the work during our sessions. Never complains, never finds anything too hard. 05.01.2022 AT HOME EXERCISE Hamstring exercises are harder to come by when you are locked down at home. But this here is a great way to hit your hamstrings. All you need is a foam roller or even a skateboard. Start with legs outstretched, then pull your heels to your bum whilst pushing your hips up to the sky. Slowly outstretch your legs again and repeat without your hips touching the ground.... Aim for 10 reps to start and you can build from there.
