13.01.2022 While I have been posting about my Camino for Good virtual Camino on the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia, a few people have asked me what I am doing for fo...od. I thought I’d share a few pics with some explanations. Unlike the ‘real’ Camino, there are no cafes or bars for possibly 150km on some stretches so you have to carry all your food for up to 8 or so days at a time. This means trying to keep weight and space to a minimum. It also has to be nutritious, tasty and sustainable. I generally do it a little differently each time. This time a lot of my food choices have been made simple by Feed the Hike’s dehydrated soup range. Soup becomes a meal if you add rice, pasta or noodles to it. Also, years ago I served in the military as an Artillery survey sergeant and so, at least for this trip, I am organising my food into daily ration packs like we did in the army. Breakfast - cup of tea, gingernut bikkie (cookie for non-Aussies), 2 x porridge sachets (I mix up the flavours for a bit of variety). Trail snacks. - jerky for protein and peanut slab for carbs. I find that the chocolate in the peanut slab doesn’t tend to melt throughout the day. I usually only have one bite at a time to make it last. Lunch - feed the hike lunch portion with noodles. Also if I have plenty of time and water (I’m carrying all I use for the day) I will indulge a cup of tea and a bikkie. Afternoon - usually with about 4 km to go to the hut, I start getting sore and a bit cranky and I find sucking on a piece of chocolate keeps my morale up. This time it is Cadbury old gold rum and raisin. Dinner - feed the hike dinner portion with rice. Usually, if I haven’t been too indulgent throughout the day, I might have chocky, bikkies and jerky left over for dessert. I will usually carry a few extra bits and pieces in case of emergency like if I have to stay an extra day - hasn’t happened yet but you never know. So that’s about it really. Ultreia friends. https://caminoforgood.com @caminoforgood #caminoforgood #caminospirit #virtualwalk #virtualcamino #caminodesantiago #caminofrances #pilgrim #pilgrimage #spain #albergue #pilgrimofdailylife #albergues #supportalbergues

12.01.2022 I arrived in Castildelgado on my Camino for Good virtual Camino and visited the Mumby pub on the Bibbulmun Track whose steak sandwich I can highly recommend. I... suppose melancholy would describe how today was for me. I know I’m supposed to say how wonderful and great everything is but that wasn’t my day today. I left Yabberup campsite and immediately felt sad. Yet there was no trigger - nothing happened to cause it. I had a good nights sleep, company was good. Had a little morning fire which I always love. So, in some circles I would describe myself as a deep thinker analyst. The next few hours I spent trying to get to the source of my sadness - came up with nothing. Some of my friends are empaths and have described that sometimes they feel the feelings of others. I suppose my understanding of quantum physics entanglement theory could have me believe that someone in my ‘family’ - those at some point in my life I have loved deeply - are sad and I am feeling it with them. In these times that wouldn’t be out of the realms of probability. Possibly my heart is longing to be in Spain like I know so many others are. Just as I discovered this heart shaped stone it dawned on me. I am on a Camino - virtual or real - it is still a Camino! Feelings happen! My job is not to analyse. My job is to accept! My job is to allow this time and space I have to fully experience the moment. The Camino is doing its magic. The joy embedded in my sadness is that, as a function of the human condition, I have the capacity to ‘feel’. Today it is sadness, tomorrow will bring its own flavour, it’s own nuance. For tonight though, I’m not feeling particularly social so I’ve excused myself to go to bed. That said, it is comforting to hear some of my companions chatting and laughing around the campfire. Feels very homely. Buen Camino. https://caminoforgood.com @caminoforgood #caminoforgood #caminospirit #virtualwalk #virtualcamino #caminodesantiago #caminofrances #pilgrim #pilgrimage #spain #albergue #pilgrimofdailylife #albergues #supportalbergues

07.01.2022 Grimwade campsite. Last one before the lovely little town of Balingup on my Camino for Good virtual Camino on the Bibbulmun Track. I arrived at the Posthouse Ba...lingup having booked into a dorm for a few days. I haven’t showered (or really had a decent wash) for 5 days so first thing on the agenda was a hot shower that Cressey Camino was raving about. In true Camino style, I hopped into the shower, turned it on and waited for it to heat up. I waited and waited and... well you get the idea. I’m a pilgrim so a cold shower is to be expected (maybe). I just couldn’t believe it!!! I did what I could, got out of the shower, dried off and tested the tap on the sink - hot water! Tested the shower again - hot water. There was an electrician working outside and he’d turned the power off for about 10 mins (the same 10 mins I’d been in the shower). The power was needed to ignite the instant on gas water heater. I just laughed at the synchronicity that had put me once again back in the Camino experience. Not straight away of course but later. https://caminoforgood.com @caminoforgood #caminoforgood #caminospirit #virtualwalk #virtualcamino #caminodesantiago #caminofrances #pilgrim #pilgrimage #spain #albergue #pilgrimofdailylife #albergues #supportalbergues
