25.01.2022 Last week our preps celebrated 100 Days of School. Heres a flash back 30 years to the Preps of 1989. Do you recognise anyone?

25.01.2022 After unceremoniously being asked to leave the School in 1985, Damien Martin showed no signs of resentment while walking through the hallways of Camperdown College when he returned last week as a guest. Damien now calls Ballarat home and is Director of Southern Cross Martial Arts where he specifically enjoys working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Leaving Camperdown College part way through Year 11, Damien explored other options to complete his schooling and has ...since completed a large number of vocational courses including (amongst others) a Diploma of Sport & Recreation, a Diploma of Sport (Coaching), and Advanced Diploma of Security (Risk Management), a Graduate Diploma of Strategic Leadership went on to a Graduate Certificate of Autism Studies at Griffith University. Over the years since leaving Camperdown College Damien has had a variety of careers including working in the security industry, running an international training college, being a youth worker and running martial arts schools. He eventually relocated to Ballarat with his wife and opened a new school specifically aimed at kids on the spectrum and says the enjoyment he gets from watching the individual growth of his students is so rewarding. Damien is a passionate advocate for ASD and believes the inroads made in todays diagnostic tools to be a great step towards getting the right intervention in place early for those on the Autism Spectrum. Visiting the College as a guest on the annual Health Day, Year 7-10 students were presented with information on a range of Health conditions and Damiens expertise in the area of ASD was utilised by the VCAL students who delivered the information. On behalf of the Camperdown College staff and students wed like to thank Damien for travelling to Camperdown and delivering such important information. Luckily this time he left with a hand shake and a smile!

25.01.2022 Class of 93 Student- Warrant Officer Class Two David Bennett Past Student David Bennett admits he didn’t achieve the greatest results in VCE- but that hasn’t stopped him from achieving great things during his career in the Army. After Year 12 David attended TAFE and completed an Electronic Engineering Diploma, going on to enlist with the Australian Army as an Electronics Technician in 1999. 21 years later David is the lead instructor for the promotion courses within the Te...lecommunications trade within the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. Being deployed 4 times on operations to the Middle East and East Timor, David has also been posted to most states in Australia to conduct exercises. David’s year has been somewhat challenging at times working remotely to deliver a course for those soldiers in the technical trade with the corps of signals that are on the path to a promotion to Warrant Officer Class 2. Covid travel restrictions meant members that were panelled on this course were not allowed to attend Melbourne and therefore the course had to be run via a distance learning method. This meant that all of the content that was to be delivered face to face in the classroom was now to be delivered in an online platform, including daily video chats explained David. The change of platform in delivering his course information wasn’t the only challenge for David as he and his wife Andrea began remote learning with their 3 young school aged children. Trying to deliver a senior promotion course with Army Officers across the country while dealing with a prep trying to learn to spell, read and count to one hundred has presented many challenges David laughed. The biggest challenge I have faced though is to my own mental health. Trying not to consume too much alcohol, trying to maintain a healthy attitude by staying physically active and conducting my own personal physical training regime while trying to get the family involved has helped David explained that face to face contact via video conferences has helped but has not replaced the physical contact with family and friends and is looking forward to restrictions further easing and taking more drives to the country. Maybe you’ll pop by Camperdown David!? We look forward to seeing you.

21.01.2022 Head Prefect of 1958 Catherine (Kate) Ellemor contacted the Alumni office and we were able to locate this publication from the archives. While the 1958 Baltarta listed Kate’s ambition to be a grape treader in a wine factory, she in fact went onto become a Pharmacist and has lived in Corryong since 1968. We get a laugh out of the ambitions listed on these pages- Do you know anyone from form VI in 1958? Did they in fact live out their ambition?

20.01.2022 Back in 2017,1966 alum Wayne McIntyre donated funds to cover the equipment costs for one of our VCE students, after learning he would not otherwise have been able to afford his VET course. This young man is now a gun second year VET Electrotechnology student at Southwest TAFE, and we are delighted he is realising his full potential. Wayne is a valued member of our alumni community; he has twice been a panellist for our year 10 mock interviews, and was part of our BRICKS video project. Thanks so much Wayne for your ongoing support. Be part of Camperdown Colleges alumni community; there are so many ways to support our students and advance this brilliant school. 13.01.2022 Camperdown College farewelled their Year 12 Class of 2020 today in style. This cohort has been truly exceptional, shown leadership, decency, great citizenship and remarkable resilience, and have all done this while taking great care of each other and showing tremendous respect for our school.

12.01.2022 Born in Camperdown in 1949, Dennis Morgan attended the Camperdown State School during his primary years and moved to Camperdown High School in 1962. His schooling was shorter than some as he left at the end of Form 5 (Year 11). During Form 4 (year 10) Dennis lost his father at just 41 years of age, leaving his mother with himself and 3 sisters under the age of 5 to raise on her own. Deciding to leave school as soon as he could, Dennis wanted to secure a job and provide for h...is mother and family. Dennis credits 2 of his teachers at Camperdown High, Mr Ian Daws & Mr Neil Rosser as providing the guidance a young man needed in the absence of his father. Mr Rosser arranged for Dennis to sit an entrance exam for the Commonwealth Bank, which he was successful in obtaining and began working at the Camperdown Branch in January 1967. I was then offered a transfer to Footscray in 1968 but the Manager at Camperdown Branch refused on my behalf recommending I be transferred to Warrnambool which was approved & I have stayed here in Warrnambool to this day. I am forever thankful to him said Dennis. Dennis left the Bank 6 years later in in 1973 and began his career in Insurance. My journey in Insurance in took me from AMP, VACC and then I started up my own Business in 1990 Dennis explained. In 1999 I had the opportunity of moving to MGA where I entered into a Portfolio Management set up where you own your own Business but are backed by a National organisation Dennis explains how owning his own business has provided the opportunity to remain living locally, employ his family and eventually expand his business operations to Portland and Parkdale. At 70 years old, Dennis is still behind the desk 3 days per week saying he enjoys keeping his hand in the game and working with the younger people in the business. We have now employed one of my Grandsons on a traineeship to keep the family links going Dennis conveyed a strong message to any young person coming through the school to always have confidence in your own ability, pick something you enjoy & have a go at it. Do so in the knowledge that you will suffer a number of setbacks as you go through life but always adopt the attitude that when one door closes if you stay positive and use self-belief, you can make another door open to provide yourself with bigger & better opportunities Dennis enjoys remaining in contact with peers from the 60s and looks forward to reunion events and gatherings.

09.01.2022 Noel Brebner left school after year 10, in 1970, and is a wonderful example of someone who advanced steadily to become a leader in his field, despite being more interested in sport than academic pursuits while at school. His story is about finding and following his passion, and he offers great advice to students who may be in a similar position to his as a 16-year old 49 years ago. Noel is also organising at 1972 grad year reunion next year, so stay posted to FB for updates....Continue reading

She now has her "dream job", teaching in salons around Australia. 05.01.2022 If youve bought a house, car or caravan locally you may have dealt with local businessman and past Camperdown College Student, Murray Swayn. Completing Year 12 in 1987, Murray recalls memories of making great friendships during his schooling at the then Camperdown High School. He must have been an easy going student back in the 80s as he remarks he cant list a favourite teacher or subject I dont think there were any bad ones- they all gave or taught me something differe...nt to carry on into adult life. Perhaps it was that positive approach throughout life that has seen Murray succeed in business as he now owns and operates Warrnambool RV and Caravan Centre with his brother, Neville. As an active member of the Camperdown College Alumni Community, Murray has enjoyed visiting students and sharing his story. I like to share the idea that school is a dressed rehearsal for life and that my best advice is to respect yourself and others Murray concluded. If you can share your story with the Camperdown College Alumni Community or would be interested in visiting, please inbox the Alumni Team.
