23.01.2022 QCup update!! I hope the holidays are going well and everyone has got through all their club games unscathed. The draw is out for the finals on the Sunshine Coast. Friday16th October Boys- 10am v PBC Girls- 2.30pm v Pacific Pines... Grand Final: Saturday 17th October 8.15am both boys and girls. Please note only winners from Friday’s games progress to Saturday’s games. Losers of the preliminary final on Friday are knocked out of the competition and won’t be playing again. The format has been changed from previous years so there is no Sunday games as suggested before the holidays, it’s hard to keep up! Information will come out next week outlining all the important details. Enjoy the last few days of holidays and good luck to those playing their final round of club footy and to those that have qualified for the gf, a massive congratulations

23.01.2022 Congratulations to one of our youngest Aspire AFL students Imogen Dowker who represented the South Coast under 12 girls team at the state championships in Cairns. Immi was awarded the honour as vice captain for the team. The girls played great football winning the grand final against Wide Bay by 26 points. Immi was joined in the team by Claire Abbott (sister of Chloe) and Kyra Spence (sister of Ryne) who are both fellow Aspire AFL members. Awesome effort Immi and what a great experience!

22.01.2022 Good Afternoon AFL Kids, parents and families, Welcome back to term 2, albeit in far different circumstances than we are use to! I hope you all had a great couple of weeks holiday and are now busy back into work and getting your head around online learning. Make sure you get outside and do some activity, ideally footy related to break up your day of staring at your laptop screen! I know I need to! ... Below is some info for your reference. Strength and Conditioning: The Aspire S & C booklet has been emailed to all AFL kids. You need to do this once a week at the bare minimum (record in the booklet), ideally 3+ times would be good (or another program like NTC, fitness apps, etc). Skill Apps/Activities: I’m looking for any cool apps that may or may not be AFL specific that will help keep you sharp and maintain your skills while in isolation. There is a basketball app called ‘Homecourt’, which is really good. There are excellent agility activities that cross over to AFL really well. Give it a try and experiment with it. If you have any others or are doing some cool activities please share. Skill Ideas: If you have someone to kick with at home make sure you get out and work on your fundamentals (A,B,C kicks). Also have some fun with games/challenges with stuff you have at home or a local park. Get the wheelie bin out on the road and try and hit it with kicks from 10, 20, 30m (left/right/snaps/bananas), land it on the bin, handball against a wall and catch the rebound to improve reflexes. Anything you can do now will help when we’re back up and running, so turn off YouTube and Netflix and get active! Feel free to share any cool stuff being done while at home. I can't wait to see what you've been up to! Take care.

20.01.2022 This afternoon at 2pm gold Coast Suns players Jack Lukosius, Chris Burgess and local products Brayden Crosley, Jacob Dawson and Brad Scheer are visiting our Aspire AFL group. It's a great opportunity for our budding AFL stars to ask questions and gain insight into the life and demands of being an AFL footballer.

20.01.2022 Well done to the Varsity girls today, dominated our pool at the QCup gala day at Sandgate. They won all 3 games convincingly with a standout performance against the previously undefeated school of excellence team Park Ridge. The girls kicked 11 goals 9 behinds to Park Ridges 1 point. A great team effort which sees the girls progress to the finals on the Sunshine Coast on October 16 and 17. Great footy girls!

19.01.2022 Congratulations to the 7 footballers that represented the under 15 South Coast teams in Mackay recently. The boys consisted of Zai Millane, Lachlan Stasuik, Leo Lombard and Adam Owen. The boys went through the carnival undefeated winning the final against Met East in a hard fought 28 point victory. All 4 boys were great contributors over the 4 days of competition. 15.01.2022 Welcome to week 3 of working from home. The kids were all emailed the Strength and Conditioning progression for the next 3 weeks. Please ensure the S&C booklets are up to date heading into this next stage. There are lots of trick shots of AFL players floating around at the moment, try your own and post on our page. It would be great to see a bit of creativity with your trick shots! Let's hope we're back up and playing in a few weeks and do what we all love!

15.01.2022 Not to be outdone by the girls, our junior boys QCUP team played 4 great games last Wednesday to win their Gold Coast qualifying round. The boys progress to the state qualifying finals on thursday the 8th August at Ormeau AFC. Great job boys!

15.01.2022 Winners are grinners!! The boys had a big win against Woodcrest in their 1st game today but followed that up with a hard fought win against a tough Mountain Creek. 10.01.2022 Dear ASPIRE students and parents Please find outlined below information regarding Varsity College ASPIRE Sport Extra-Curricular Programs. As our response to COVID-19 is all about containment, a decision has been made to cancel:... ASPIRE Sport Extra-Curricular Programs (AFL, Basketball, Football, Rowing and morning Strength and Conditioning Sessions) and School Based Extra-Curricular Sports (Netball, Oz Tag, Rugby Union): - there will be no extra-curricular sporting team or strength and conditioning training before school, during breaks or after school. Please note: Curriculum based ASPIRE Sport ADP programs, Years 7 10, will remain as timetabled as per program. This decision is effective as of tomorrow, Thursday 19th March 2020, and will continue until further advice. These directions support the effort to contain and slow the spread of COVID-19. Our College plays a vital role in this process and I ask for your continued support and attention to actions that will support this containment effort.

09.01.2022 Welcome back to Aspire AFL for 2020! There as an Aspire AFL meeting to discuss the upcoming year on Thursday 1st lunch break in the sports hall, all players are expected to attend. Looking forward to a great year building on from the great work of the past few years. Congratulations to the many footballers selected in the Suns South Zone Academy for the upcoming season that was announced yesterday. Great to see so many of our boys and girls achieving their goals!

08.01.2022 Our varsity boys played 2 hard fought games today at ormeau footy club. We came away with a tough 30-15 victory against the Brisbane south champs. We then played marymount college in the final to progress through to the semi final stage of qcup. We got off to a slow start in the 1st quarter but fought back in the next 3 to narrowly lose. Well done to the boys on their effort in what was a very disappointing loss.

08.01.2022 Good luck to the junior and senior boys QCUP teams in action tomorrow at Carrara saints AFC. Action kicks off at 9.30am with the boys playing throughout the day.

06.01.2022 Good morning crew, just a reminder there’s no Aspire footy this afternoon or next Monday due to me being away.

05.01.2022 GIPSA sport called off today. School as normal

05.01.2022 It was great to have the Varsity Aspire AFL crew back on board today. All of the 2020 AFL kids received their training shirts this afternoon and all of our new 2021 crop were measured up today with delivery expected before Easter. The shirts are training shirts so they’re tight around the shoulders and a bit looser around the body. They look great!! We had our 1st session on the outskirts of the oval today due to the oval renovation. It looks great and will be up and running ...after week 4 when our Wednesday sessions will start. They all received their permission forms for Wednesday afternoon training starting at the school in week 5, bond sessions starting next Friday for the remainder of the year and our games. Can’t wait to get over to Bond next week and get stuck into it! Bond uni have come on board as a major ambassador of our program and have helped out considerably to enhance our program in 2021. Thanks to molly and Annabelle for modelling our training shirts

05.01.2022 Aspire training on as usual on the oval this afternoon. We have guest coach Blair Mortimer taking the reigns. Blair played a lot of footy for the Labrador tigers and worked for AFLQ for many years. Thanks Blair for helping out

04.01.2022 Good Afternoon Varsity AFL. Just a quick update for the QCup finals on the Sunshine Coast. AFLQ are still finalising the draws and arrangements for the weekend of 16-18 October. 03.01.2022 Great effort by both the boys and girls today. The boys were up against a remarkable junior team and really took it up to them early. They had a lot of run and got on top of us but the boys never stopped trying til the end. A big congratulations to the girls winning by about 70 points in very hot and testing conditions. Pac pines threw everything they had at the girls but we had a whole team of contributors. Good luck for tomorrow’s rematch with PBC at 8.30 in the morning. Come on Vikings

03.01.2022 What a massive couple of weeks for many of our Aspire AFL footballers. Under 15 state carnival in Mackay, Under 12 state carnival in Cairns and QCup for the senior girls yesterday. Awesome results and achievements from our athletes. More details to follow

03.01.2022 Great to have Aspire AFL back up and running on Monday and looking forward to today’s session. It was great to have Sam Isles from the Gold Coast Suns Academy come along and pass on his vast knowledge of the game through running a session for each group. The kids got a lot out of it. Sam will attend our Monday sessions while the academy is out of action.

02.01.2022 Sorry all, tomorrow’s game is at 8.15am tomorrow not 8.30. We will still meet by 7.30am at the ground. Please have the girls dressed due to lack of change rooms. Game on!!

02.01.2022 Footy’s back next week for Varsity Aspire AFL crew.!! All the kids have been sent an email with all the details. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week and dusting off the footballs!

01.01.2022 Good afternoon Aspire AFL crew. I hope you are all doing well during this uncertain period, remember to lay off Netflix! For many of you tonight would have been round 2 of the home and away season. Grab a footy, pop outside and take as many marks (preferably hangers!), kick and handball the footy as many times as you think you would have done tonight! Good Luck! Practice social distancing of course!!

01.01.2022 A huge congratulations to our 3 varsity girls, Havana, Matise and Molly that competed from Thursday to Sunday last week at the state u15 championships. All 3 really contributed to the 2 south coast teams. An extra special mention must go to Havana Harris for being selected in the state team to compete in Tasmania later in the year! Great work girls
