15.01.2022 One of 6 researched elements of risky elements that should be included in a play space is height (Sandseter, E. 2017), or rather a space where children can play at height. This element, as with many "risky elements" is often shunned and not included in many play spaces. Often, when it is included, it is done so in a rather tokenistic or misunderstood way. Take the elevated platforms with a ladder on one side and a slide on the other. These are not spaces to "be", but rather t...ransition through. The risk of not facilitating these spaces is simple. Children instricially seek them out, as they always have, and if this play is outlawed, they will do so out of site, away from help and possibly at a more hasty reckless way lest they be "caught" for acting on innate intrinsic motivations. Thus, spaces of height are important. They should be considered, understood and dynamically risk assessed in an ongoing fashion but provided none the less. Like all risky elements in play only experience in managing them arms developing children with the skills, risk detection and confidence to remain safe.

14.01.2022 Nothing like a bit of Sunday PD! This was actually very good and informative. #playwork #play #roughandtumbleplay

10.01.2022 Welcome to Camp Hills latest cafe... Scissors Paper OSHC. A very industrious little business that only had "bar seats" left available today with all tables booked out. And don't worry their COVID plan was top notch On that note... It had been interesting to see COVID play evolve over it's course from reactions based on the unknown (survival bunkers, hoarding resources etc) into play with real life context like this. Very interesting insight into the evolution of play frames as context is added in a real life sense.

08.01.2022 Resource shout out!!! Inspired by the amazing work the Playwork group Woodland Tribe we have dedicated the first two days of vacation care (the pupil free days) to woodwork and construction on a grand scale. To ensure we have abundant resources we are hoping to scavenge, beg and acquiesque any unwanted timber you may have lying around to supplement our purchased materials. So please, if you have anything that may be of use let us know! We cannot take treated timbers so if yo...u are unsure feel free to email and check We would not put our noses up at any unwanted tools either!!! As always thank you for your support.

07.01.2022 Ever wondered why kids won't play on a playground the way it's designed? Why they always want to climb on the outside of the tunnel instead of the inside? Teach...er Tom is pretty anti traditional out-of-the-box playgrounds and once you hear his reasoning - you'll probably agree with him. Children need risk in their life and if they can build and create their own risk - they'll never get bored. Worried about how unsafe this sounds? Teacher Tom explains how children learn to assess and manage risk if they are exposed to it in this video: https://parenttv.com//what-is-so-good-about-a-junkyard-pl/

07.01.2022 Timber haul! Thanks John Petrie for the massive haul! Woodland Tribe days looking good! Now for some serious denailing!!!

06.01.2022 Yesterday some of the kids may have come home asking who the "red shirts" were... Well no despite some mischieviously planted rumours they were niether new Camp Hill OSHC educators nor an invading army... They were the Eagle Junction SS OSHC crew in charge of the development of their new loose parts space. This was an awesome visit and really allowed the Camp Hill crew to show case not only the space but the practice behind implementing a great play space. The team from Eagle Junction first sat in on a small brainstorming workshop on two of Hughes's (2002) play types (Deep Play and Mastery Play) discussing how we can better facilitate and support these. Then is was into the fray as approx 200 children decended into our space to play the afternoon away. Thanks for coming and we look forward to catching up again soon.

06.01.2022 When worlds collide! Today the Camp Hill OSHC team were delighted to once again host the year one teachers, teacher aides and students for a leg of their outdoor classroom day. The priority and objective for the day..? Intrinsically motivated, freely chosen and personally directed play! It has been such a pleasure to foster this relationship for four years now and as a team it has very much helped build on and then cement meaningful reciprocal relationships with our teacher c...omrades. Tomorrow we look forward to having our prep cohort through for the adventure. Thank you everyone today who came and played! #play #playwork #looseparts

05.01.2022 Sometimes the kids do things with loose parts we cannot at face value decipher, and we could never have programmed for... And that's a beautiful thing.

05.01.2022 A couple of articles in the latest NOSHA Magazine from the Camp Hill Crew! https://4674cae4-dde7-4717-9db9-af2a5da82c3c.filesusr.com/
