16.01.2022 Its R U OK?Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today were calling on Australians to learn what to say af...ter R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says theyre not OK. Theres more to say after R U OK? Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before theyre in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where were all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

16.01.2022 This November National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia are celebrating Coorong National Park as Park of the Month. Not only is it the home ...of Storm Boy, the Coorong National Park protects a vast wetland of international importance and the fragile dune systems of the Younghusband Peninsula. There is something for all ages and interests in the Coorong. The serenity, the sheer diversity, and the proximity to Adelaide make it an immensely popular park. Visitors come for bird watching, boating, kayaking, fishing, camping, walking, four-wheel driving and European and cultural history. This November there is a packed program of events and special offers to showcase this wonderful park. Many of the events have limited tickets, so book early so you don’t miss out! https://www.parks.sa.gov.au/get-inspired/park-of-the-month

14.01.2022 Remarkable vision of a platypus taking nesting material to its burrow. Arguably the world's most successful captive breeding program of platypus continues to pr...oduce results at Warrawong. Started by Dr John Wamsley in the 1990s, platypus have bred each year at the Sanctuary, and continue to do so. The secret to the success is in the "enclosure". Instead of building an aquarium, Dr Wamsley built an ecosystem. The theory being, platypus know how to breed, they just need a safe environment in which to do so. There is no need to waste exorbitant amounts of money on scientists, laboratories, and IVF programs... Just build a sanctuary and keep the foxes and cats away. The platypus will take care of the rest. The ecosystem owes a lot to a volunteer, Grant, who build a water pump for the Sanctuary, out of an old Holden Commodore V6 engine. The engine costs around $13 per hour to run. However, as the platypus at Warrawong are regarded as the last on mainland South Australia, they must be protected at any price. The Warrawong Sanctuary Foundation is working with Narelle and David to support their conservation efforts. The Foundation was established to create a paradigm shift in the way charities operate. According to the Australian Charities and Not for profits Commission (ACNC), up to 98% of donations to charities can be spent on administration. Therefore, it could be argued, some charities are misleading, if not actually deceiving the public, when it comes to their charitable work. The Warrawong Sanctuary Foundation invests 99.9% of donations directly to the specified project. There are no staff, and even the accountant, bookkeeper, and lawyer donate their services. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible. https://www.paypal.com/donate

07.01.2022 Well that’s a wrap #fromthefield! Our dedicated Zoos SA conservation team are safely back on the mainland after helping our partners Kangaroo Island Land for ...Wildlife dig dozens of pitfall traps to monitor local animal populations over the past week. Here’s a brief look at the trip in numbers: Days: 5 Pitfall traps: 100 dug across 13 sites Buckets used: a whopping 250 (at least!) Heath monitors spotted: 1 Coffee pots brewed: numerous Shovels broken: 1 Yakka cuts: too many to count Exhausted conservationists: 8 Differences made: hopefully countless! All of this wouldn’t be possible without the support of local landholders in the north west of the island, whose private land we’ve been working on, and funding from the Australian Government Bushfire Recovery Program. And of course, the support of our amazing followers like yourselves. We hoped you’ve learned a little bit about what conservation in the field involves and make sure to keep an eye out for updates in the coming weeks on what the pitfall traps reveal! #fromthefield #savingspecies #conservation #privatelandconservation #kangarooisland #bushfirerecoveryau #nwca #northwesternconservationalliance
