25.01.2022 We can’t wait to get back on the lake! Counting down the days...

24.01.2022 Not quite Ru Paul’s, but blokes in frocks has been a long held Icthus tradition on the last night of Camp. Looking good guys!

23.01.2022 Icthus sunsets - unbeatable

19.01.2022 Fun times at the Log Cabin. Once upon a time it was a great overnighter destination. Sadly now it’s privately owned, but still pretty to look at and a great swimming place on the Mitchell River.

18.01.2022 Spike is ready for our campers to arrive!

17.01.2022 After a difficult year for us all, Camp Icthus is happy to announce that we are able to run a 2021 Summer Camp! Due to Covid-19 limitations we are only able to run ONE camp in January - Monday 11th January to Wednesday 20th January. Stay tuned for further details. We are so excited!

16.01.2022 Adventures in Gippsland don’t just exist above ground! At Buchan Caves, (approx. 90kms from Camp Icthus), there’s a wonderland of ancient limestone formations that are around 380 million years old! Jointly managed with the Gunaikurnai people - it is a place to recognise the cultural significance and be mesmerised by the cave’s fascinating honeycomb structure.... Image courtesy of @parksvic

14.01.2022 One more sleep...

12.01.2022 The Silt Jetties The Mitchell River Silt Jetties have been created by silt deposits over thousands of years and are the longest digitate delta in the world! Awesome huh? ... They are located along the end of the Mitchell River where it runs in to the Gippsland Lakes. The jetties provide a perfect place to paddle and check out the pelicans, cormorants, ducks, fish, and if you’re lucky, a sea eagle or two.

11.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. ... This painting links in with ‘River Snake’. As you can see there are a number of layers to this painting. The snake has created pathways from Country to Country which are represented by wavy lines. The traditional lines show where I am from and what Country I am on. The snake has created the rivers which have carved into the earth. The painting reveals itself through its layers. - ‘Yarrabee. Layers on Country.’ - Gunnai Artist, Ronald Edwards-Pepper (Posted with artist’s permission) Camp Icthus acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we camp, live and work, and pays deepest respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We also acknowledge that sovereignty of these lands has never been ceded

08.01.2022 Early Morning Swims in 25 litres of Fridge Soup....

05.01.2022 Did you know the Gippsland Lakes make up Australia’s largest inland waterway? We can’t wait to explore some more this summer!

03.01.2022 A shout out to all our members, we now have an 'Icthus Members Only' facebook page. Just another way of keeping members informed of up coming meetings, training dates, work camps etc. Please search and send a request if you have not received an invite yet!

03.01.2022 The beautiful area of East Gippsland is under threat. If any of you have enjoyed splashing in the Mitchell river or slept under the vast sky you need to make some noise. We stand to lose this magical place to a big mining company, who is perceived to be bullying their way into this beautiful area. The huge Kalbar mine planned needs 3 billion litres of water annually and will release radio-active toxic dust into the atmosphere. The area will be polluted and won’t be liveable... - the Mitchell River flows into our beautiful Gippsland Lakes. The Mitchell river flats also provides important farm land known as ‘Victoria’s Food Bowl’. This is not long term thinking for our future, it is short term money grabbing often by foreign companies. If you have ANY link to East Gippsland orjust care about the fate of our planet you can make a submission against the mine by 29th Oct 2020. You can find the link at STOP Kalbar to submit directly https://engage.vic.gov.au/fingerboards-IAC and follow Mine-free Glenaladale Or visit @stopkalbar for more information We know it’s short notice but it’s our future at stake.

03.01.2022 Follow a request for the Scroggan recipe - here it is! Best enjoyed in the great outdoors, preferably with black sand between your toes and sunscreen on your nose.

02.01.2022 What did Camp Icthus teach you? Freedom of thought and expression, adventure, acceptance of myself by myself, deep friendships ,a sense of belonging, mosquito bites...

01.01.2022 Did you know that a cave near to Camp Icthus contained artefacts and evidence of Aboriginal occupation circa 18,000 years ago, believed to be one of the oldest cave sites of significance in south east Australia. The Snowy River Valley has many significant archeological sites, mostly containing scattered stone artifacts. Examples such as these are on display at Krowathunkooloong in Bairnsdale.... Camp Icthus acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we camp, live and work, and pays deepest respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
