25.01.2022 Our Camps community know that every two years we produce a new edition. Purely thanks to Australians travelling more in Australia, we’ve had to get our skates on as we are now out of stock. So due to popular demand, with the whole team working like trojans ‘underground’ we are very excited to let you know that Camps 11 is now available on pre-order! Your feedback and our research has led to further improvements again, so our books are even better than previous editions aga...in! There’s a lot to look forward to with CAMPS 11. Heatley and I and the CAMPS team work so hard to produce each new edition, auditing different areas across Australia and acting on every update or site suggestion you send us. This year has a very special meaning and more impact than ever before. It has long been our mission within CAMPS to encourage travellers to see more of our beautiful country and to support rural and outback communities. We are grateful we are able to help people during these times and Camps 11 is now available for preorder for our amazing community. Order your CAMPS 11 and choose the Standard or Easy to Read edition (with campsite photos and larger maps) If you’d like your loved one to be one of the first travellers to have a new book, order today. Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery before Christmas. https://www.campsaustraliawide.com/camps-11-now-available-/

24.01.2022 What is amazing about this rest area is that you are in the West MacDonnell Ranges, close to tourist icons. This route is a must-see with beautiful gorges, indigenous culture, chasm, gap, hole and pits! With a bitumen surface, there are picnic tables and a BBQ, but a patchy mobile reception. It is 24-hours only and pet friendly; BYO drinking water and firewood. Look up NT site 51 in CAMPS 10 or if you have our CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App as well simply go to the map or list and search with the site name! Read more in our blog....

24.01.2022 Who knew that only half an hour from Marble Bar, the hottest place in Australia there was a waterhole to cool down in? Doolena Gorge is shaded by trees and the cliffs most of the day, so perfect for a swim. Follow walking tracks to the next creek or climb up to the waterfall. Facilities are non-existent, but pets are welcome. Access this camp only during dry weather. This is WA site 640 in CAMPS 10 or if you have our CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App as well simply go to the map or list and search with the site name! Ifyouve been here, wed love to see your photos! 23.01.2022 For the first time in the history of CAMPS, you can identify the site type at a glance on the maps. We now have these colourful new symbols so you can see if it is a recreation or showground, national park, state forests or nature reserve, station or pub stay, RV park or other freedom or paid site. Without looking at the listing, you can see if it is pet friendly depending on whether the numbered oval has ears or not and which type of stop it is depending on the colour. ... We’ve included this in our new App as well, and Kelly L has told us: My favourite is the way you can see whether it’s a pub/club or a farm stay etc by the cool symbols. The pubs and farm stays are my favourite camp spots so now you have made it so easy for me to find those camp areas just by looking for the beer mug or cow head symbol. Some campers prefer National Parks or State Forests, others wander from one showground to the next. Perhaps you are like Heatley and I and enjoy all types of stops. Any which way, choosing where to stop for the night is even easier! As well as new symbols on the maps, each listing now has a street address as well as GPS co-ordinates for easy navigation and CAMPS 11 has been printed in Australia. Choose the Standard (A4 size) OR Easy to Read edition (B4 size with larger maps and campsite photos). We have clearly labelled each CAMPS 11 version to help you purchase the right one for you. As always, sites are 100% researched and updated with new sites and changes. Plus there’s all the our regular features you can expect from Australia’s favourite RV and camping guide colour coded states, one index for the whole country, a complete list of public dump points and fold out map of Australia to plot your trip!

23.01.2022 Heartwarming ABC Landline story on the soft drink factories in Crows Nest and Pittsworth, QLD. Keeping history alive. Love how one of the owners stressed that in the old days, they were only ever made as a treat: If youre thirsty, drink water! he said. The raspberry flavour took reporter Pip back to when she was 10. Is there a old-style factory near you, or do you have a favourite?

23.01.2022 The answer to Where am I Friday is.... National Arboretum Canberra - what a fantastic place for walks and views! A must see when you are in our Australian Capital Territory It was from here, we were caught in the PMs cavalcade, (then Malcolm Turnbull) - something that doesnt happen in other inland cities! Have you seen Wide Brown Land? This artwork celebrates Dorothea Mackellars popular Australian poem My Country which was written in 1908. The sculptural forms that make up the work are inspired by the cursive style of Mackellars own hand-writing. The artwork frames a wide vista that stretches across the National Arboretum Canberra to the hills that mark Canberras western and southern boundaries. By Marcus Tatton, Futago and Chris Viney

22.01.2022 This newsletter we proudly announce that CAMPS 11 is available on pre-order and talk about what's new about the new edition! Plus why pet lovers (and those who don't travel with pets) will love it AND all the colourful new symbols. PS plus we share a coupon code so you can save up to $27 and be one of the first to own our very latest edition!

22.01.2022 Heres a question we received today, that we thought may help other travellers or those planning trips: Q: We would like to freecamp around central and western NSW, but we are concerned that many sites listed in your marvelous book may be closed due to Covid 19 restrictions. Is there any way we can find out about closures before we set out. We live in Narooma NSW, so our planned trip would not involve crossing any state borders. Many thanks for the years of happy experiences... we have had using your book. A: Glad you love your Camps 10! As far as we have been advised - most are still open. Especially rest areas, where motorists need to be able to rest from their travels. Remember it is not just COVID, but also bushfires have affected a few areas. For long term closures (like bushfire damage) we do add that to the App listing for that campsite. It is easy to check National Parks and state forests, closures should be on their websites. https://www.forestrycorporation.com.au/visit/important https://www.forestrycorporation.com.au//widespread-closure https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/alerts/alerts-list If it is privately owned, you can check directly with the owners. Tourist information centres in each town will be able to advise not just if the local campground or parks are open, but also what tourist attractions are available? It does pay to plan and book ahead in this COVID environment, with limited numbers at attractions as well as some campgrounds. Finally, some people have been checking on our Facebook Group "I Love Camping Australia Wide" to see if other people have travelled to certain areas recently. Use the topics there to help you find that information or search for the name of the area. All the best with your trip! The images is us at Broken Hill, New South Wales :)

22.01.2022 Have you been here? A lovely peaceful spot on the shores of Lake Colac, the largest natural freshwater lake in Victoria. Meredith Park has large flat camping areas with easy access, views, and good facilities. There is water, shade, picnic table, fireplace, mobile phone coverage, toilets and a boat ramp. This popular camp ground is suitable for pets and there are good spots for big rigs. Read more in our blog... This is VIC site 625 in CAMPS 10 or if you have our CAMPS AUSTRALIA WIDE App as well simply go to the map or list and search with the site name!

20.01.2022 Since COVID restrictions eased (for most of the country), we have seen a huge increase in customers, and interest in travelling Australia. So I would encourage you to book ahead, where possible. Not just for overnight stays, but attractions, or you may be disappointed. From what we are hearing bookings are up for 2021. Some camps havent re-opened yet because of restrictions or finding camp hosts and staff. Some free camps have introduced bookings for instance NSW National Parks now have a booking fee (attributed to COVID). Keep sending your photos in, we love this one of our last four CAMPS books they bought every single edition! If you are not already out there, happy planning!

19.01.2022 You havent truly seen the Riverland until you pay a visit to Caudo Vineyard SA. This family owned and operated business is just a short drive from Waikerie or Morgan in the beautiful Cadell Valley and nestled on the banks of the historic Murray River. They cater to fully self-contained RVs from Tuesday to Sunday. Accommodation is free with a maximum stay of two nights. There are no amenities, so youll need all your own facilities, but they provide a fabulous view. Youll need to book ahead SA site 172 in Camps10 or find it in the Camps Australia Wide App. Image credit to Jeanette Fulham Photography.

19.01.2022 Have you visited Cradle Mountain, Tasmania? Discovery Holiday Parks, Cradle Mountain plans a $20 million upgrade - 74 new cabins and 51 new caravan and camping sites. Some new cabins are to be suitable for those with mobility needs or disabilities, along with additional amenities and communal facilities to accommodate additional camping and caravan guests. ... This is TAS site 14 in our Caravan Parks 5 book or find it in the Camps Australia Wide App. Comments to the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service close September 6.

18.01.2022 Fish for Good Friday? Here's a recipe from our Camps Australia Wide Community Cookbook thanks to Greg and Glo Lawrence from Warrandyte, Victoria, Australia pictured at the paddlewheeler PYAP on the Murray River during their tour with long time caravanning friends of the wonderful silo art in North-Western Victoria. They said the art is amazing, the locations are fabulous and welcoming and worthy of support. You see, each recipe has the contributor's favourite camp or caravan ...park, their must see or do around Australia as well as the memory around the recipe they sent in. From Greg: I’ve produced my paella on my barbecue dish for many a dinner party on caravanning trips with friends. I have also cooked it many times at home - this paella is a standout for a special occasion. Ingredients Assortment of seafood, eg prawns, baby octopus mussels, calamari 2 boned chicken thighs cut into 2cm cubes 1-2 chorizo cut down the middle and into 1cm slices Good quality olive oil 2 cloves garlic chopped 1 medium onion chopped 1 cup red capsicum chopped 1tblspoon ground paprika 1 cup parsley chopped 2-3 cups Arborio rice Good pinch of saffron threads soaked in 80 ml hot water 1.5 L hot chicken stock 2 cups white wine Method Select the desired amount of seafood, clean rinse and drain thoroughly. Using a paella pan or large frypan, gently fry the chopped garlic in 4 tablespoons of oil. Fry the seafood separately (except the mussels) and set aside. Fry the chicken and chorizo and set aside. Heat the pan with 2 more tablespoons of oil. Stir in the onion, capsicum, paprika and half the parsley. Add the rice and fry for a further 5 minutes stirring constantly. Pour in the saffron solution and 1 cup of wine. Keep turning the rice to prevent burning. Add in the stock gradually, as the rice absorbs the liquid and softens. When all the stock has been absorbed, arrange the seafood, chicken and chorizo on top of the rice. In a separate pan, steam the cleaned and debearded mussels in white wine and chopped parsley until the shells open. Arrange the mussels on top of the dish, sprinkle with parsley and serve immediately. Plus in this newsletter, we list 8 favourite road trips in NSW, an SA free camp with a cellar door, a free stop in WA and list re-opened Gladstone camps in QLD. 17.01.2022 Sometimes on our Facebook group I Love Camping Australia Wide, there is a little bit of controversy about travelling with pets, especially dogs. Why? I guess it is because there are still some inconsiderate pet owners out there who may not keep their animal on a leash or contained, don’t pick up after them or let them yap. Plus there are folk who don’t understand how other travellers call them fur babies! In fact, we regularly receive requests to focus on sites that are p...et free, so some campers can escape man’s best friend. Well, regardless if you like to travel with your pet, or avoid them the new Camps 11 book is designed so you can easily identify what sites will suit you. In previous editions you had to look to the listings pages to check which sites were pet friendly or pet free. Now you can see it on the maps all you have to do is choose a site with or without ears! Conditions do apply some places are pet seasonal (a new symbol in our Camps 11 book) where pets won’t be welcome in their peak times. Size limits, dog breeds and number of dogs may be a factor. Some sites do not allow cats. So please always book ahead and check. Thanks for this image taken at Wallangarra, QLD an image featured from our App thanks to Peter Creigh

16.01.2022 Good morning from Rainbow Beach, QLD. Heres our sunrise and looking back towards Rainbow Beach Holiday Village. Where are you this morning? Show us a photo. We hope you are on the road - or planning for it!

16.01.2022 If there is one thing 2020 has done, it has made us more grateful. We felt so fortunate to experience Outback Queensland this year a trip we had planned for, cancelled and excitedly re-organised. We loved our little getaway to the Gold Coast Hinterland. Most of our tribe could make it except our eldest, who has just started full time work after uni. Heatley found us a waterfall all to ourselves, on a scorcher of a day! We racked up about 14 km the first day, and another ...8 the next where the cloud covered up the lookout and waterfall. I guess we’ll have to return. O’Reillys has a brand new campground only campervans and tents, though! I caught up with my sister last weekend, how wonderful! I am hope there will be many reunions for all of you over the Christmas period. She returned home to a very wet northern NSW so much rain after the Fraser Island fires! Please stay safe everyone, wherever you are. Next year, we look forward to adventures further afield with friends and our extended family. I’m already compiling my trips how about you? From our family to yours we wish you a joyous Christmas, and a camping filled 2021! See more

15.01.2022 It's joke time for April Fool's Day! Try these on your family... Q: What’s in the middle of March and April but never at the beginning or end? A: The letter R... Q: What month has one day? A: All of them! Q: What 5-letter word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it? A: Short Q: When written forward, this word is heavy. When written backward, it is not. What word is this? A: Ton Q: What comes once a minute, twice every moment, but never in a thousand years? A: The letter M Q: Richard's mother had four kids. The first three were named April, Fools, and Day. What was the fourth one named? A: Richard Q: Peter was born on March 31st and he’s the easiest person to pull an April Fools’ joke on. Why? A: Because he was born yesterday.

14.01.2022 A great story! Happy Friday...

13.01.2022 "Tamala Station will remain closed for camping until further notice. Tamalas request for a new camping licence has been declined. We have been advised that we need another Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) that specifically includes the camping area before any application will be considered. Acquiring an ILUA involves extensive consultation and a protracted legal process. This means we will have to remain closed to the public for the duration of the process that may well ...take two years to resolve. We are committed to engaging with the relevant government department to meet the necessary requirements and regain a camping licence if possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause." Teresa and Ron Reid Managers, Tamala station Printed with permission and image courtesy of: https://tamalastation.com.au

13.01.2022 Melon Harvest is underway in Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland from August through to December. Learn how we travellers can help protect agriculture and farmers - it is something to be conscious of when visiting any farm (and we have a lot of farm and stations stays listed with us)! "A grower can do all the right things and have the tightest levels of biosecurity, but all it takes it one minor incident like a well meaning holiday maker to step in to their paddock for a major biosecurity breach to occur." Melons Australia

13.01.2022 Whats on for dinner tonight at your place? Thanks to Amanda Brownhill for sending this in to the Camps Australia Wide Community Cookbook! It is featured in the Camp Recipe Hacks and we tried it out on the last night of our Outback QLD road trip this year. We had stopped into a caravan park at Gayndah, and welcomed a simple meal that used up all our scraps. Very easy, versatile and yummy! #whatsfordinner

13.01.2022 The answer to where am I Friday was Toowoomba! Heres a few more pics of the city centre and the cool street art and heritage buildings! Where are you camped up this weekend? Show us with a photo ;)

13.01.2022 Where am I Friday? Tell us where you think this is and well reveal the answer tomorrow.

12.01.2022 Tougher new laws come into play from today aimed at stopping motorists from using dedicated heavy vehicle rest areas in Queensland. The amendments clarify the rules for rest area use and camping and provide a stronger, simpler enforcement mechanisms for the Department of Transport and Main Roads. The approach to enforcement will involve education, awareness and formal warnings, with fines as a last resort.... It is all a bid to manage truck driver fatigue and safety, and report that roads are "saturated" with RVs at the moment. Note: In Camps Australia Wide, we do not list truck stops, except where there are official shared stops or rest areas for other vehicles.

11.01.2022 Have you stayed at Nobby Town Park, QLD - a free pet-friendly campsite in a fantastic location - across the road from the iconic Nobby Pub? Rudds Pub is full of history, said to be where Dad and Dave was written by Steele Rudd, AKA Arthur Hoey Davis. Nobby is also where Sister Elizabeth Kenny, a bush nurse known for her controversial treatment of polio was buried. What a fascinating story - she ended up teaching doctors and physios. Weve had some great nights here at this... pub! Theres toilets, water, picnic tables and BBQ, suitable for big rigs and it has a 72 hour limit. Theres a fee for power, pay at the pub. Theres lots more to see in this area with Darling Downs towns surrounding Nobby - including Clifton, Allora, Leyburn and Toowoomba. Find it in the Camps 10 book or the Camps Australia Wide App #goodtogo #HolidayHereThisYear See more

10.01.2022 Just a reminder for our beautiful summer - please swim between the flags ;)

10.01.2022 The answer to Where am I Friday is...... Maryborough QLD! Birthplace of Mary Poppins author, home of the beautiful Mary River and 4 RV camps, 6 caravan parks and beautiful parklands and playgrounds. Have you visited here? Where are you today? #visitfrasercoast #maryboroughqld

08.01.2022 The answer to ‘Where am I Friday’ is...... Kissing Point, Townsville, QLD. Have you seen the sights and read their war history? They’ve spent $40 million here - with artwork, signage and restoration of the fort. There’s a coastal walkway, picnic areas and playground. We were fascinated to learn that Townsville was Australia’s biggest Airforce base in WWII. It was bombed by the Japanese.

04.01.2022 We cannot be in NSW right now - so it will be great to hear from those who have recently been to Cowra - NSW 2794 as to whether Farleigh Reserve Cowra Nsw is in use. BUT we have been in touch with council and their visitor centre. And heres what we were told: Farleigh Reserve and Phillips Crossing remain closed (due to COVID)- and not sure if they will open? Cowra Shire Council advised that they have: "two recognised camping locations they manage, Cowra Van Park and Gooloog...ong Primitive Camping Ground which are open with restrictions in place." For now, using COVID as an excuse for closures when other campsites in the region are up and running doesnt make sense. Nor does closing camp areas when Australian camping holidays are pitched for an all time boom in 2021. It is particularly these natural locations, like Farleigh Reserve, that travellers will seek out. You can contact [email protected] for more information. We are still waiting for more clarification. However Cowra region does offer two freedom camps, showgrounds and caravan parks - Open: Cowra Van Park - NSW site 136 in Caravan Parks 5 Cowra Holiday Park - NSW site 137 in Caravan Parks 5 Gooloogong Primitive Camping Ground NSW site 549 in Camps 10 (known as Maisie Thompson Camping Ground, gold coin donation) Cowra Overnight Rest Stop - NSW site 540 in Camps 10 Cowra Showground - NSW site 541 in Camps 10 Closed: Fairleigh Reserve - NSW site 542 in Camps 10 Phillips Crossing - on our Camps Australia Wide App (as all the sites are) See more

03.01.2022 Where am I Friday? Tell us where you think this location is in Oz, and we'll reveal the answer tomorrow...

03.01.2022 PROBLEM: People camping - even setting up with tents in Truck Rest Areas in WA as tourists are out in droves to "wander out yonder". Mentioned was the "recent push to remove free campsites in shires, driven mostly by caravan parks, would only exacerbate the problem. "Especially if youre pensioners who cant afford a caravan park each night, they camp out. And if the town has cut the free camping, the only other option is the parking bays."

03.01.2022 If your dad (or father of your children) is a camper, it is now only days until Fathers Day, September 6. Soooo theres still time to purchase him a Camps Australia Wide Gift Voucher. 03.01.2022 Tiona Holiday Park near Forster, NSW has been lockdown busy and used the time to truck in new cabins, renovate existing cabins and a new reception area plus add wifi in the 32 hectare site. There are plans to start a cafe, upgrade the pool and refurbish the TV/games area. With just 200 m from the lake to the beach, you can have the best of both worlds and see sunset and sunrise on the water! With a chapel next door - it is also popular for weddings! The park has what Margare...t describes at the best of two worlds, stretching for 1.6km along Wallis Lake on one side and the Seven Mile Beach on the other side. After drought, bushfires and rains before COVID hit - they are looking forward to welcoming everyone back, and predict a boom for domestic travel.

01.01.2022 From the Eden Magnet: Bega Valley Shire Council are reported to say there is no expressed need for dump point in Bega as a local caravan park allows access to there one for $10. They also say there is no cash in the budget to install and maintain one, despite CMCA offering to provide it to help them become a RV Friendly Town. They also say that neighbouring towns offer dump points - but when I look at the south east corner of NSW on our maps, dump points arent in abundance.... All indicators are showing us at Camps Australia Wide that domestic tourism and camping in particular will skyrocket - we really encourage all communities to take advantage of the trends and prepare to welcome more camping and RV travellers. Eden is the closest town to Ben Boyd National Park - an absolute favourite! Have you visited here or the Bega NSW?

01.01.2022 Yes the new Camps Australia Wide App is now available for download! You will notice that there are more than campsites and caravan parks now you can see pub and club stays, showgrounds and community halls, national parks, state forests and conservation areas, farm and station stays, free and donations overnight stops and paid overnight stops. The new App gives people many more options for searching and filtering when you see it, I am sure you’ll agree. For instance, yo...u can look for all pub stays that are free. Having sites categorised is totally new to the market. Please note: if you want to search for free sites you need to use the dollar crossed out symbol (under price range in the filters), not the black moon and stars free and donation icon (under site type in the filters). Site types are first categorised on the type of site. But there are RV parks, state forests/ reserves, pubs or clubs, rec grounds/community halls etc who may or may not be free. I even came across a caravan park that was free today! All other site types like rest areas, picnic grounds etc are categorised as a ‘free and donation sites’ or ‘paid sites’ (the grey moon and stars symbol). So, if you are looking purely for free sites you need only use the ($ crossed out) symbol. See more

This includes donations, pets seasonal, generators, gas bottles, glamping, laundry and games rooms. All in all, it means travellers like yourself will have more easy to interpret information at your fingertips, to help you decide where to stop for the night.
