#gruppogrottecaicatania #cai #speleologia #Catania

09.01.2022 Quarantine Cave Trip Report 4/3/2020 I entered the cave around evening time on March 24, 2020. I decided to take a longer trip than usual to get used to my new ...habit of social distancing. Usually a caving trip lasts anywhere from 4 to 12+ hours. Amazingly, I’ve been in this cave for 10 days now! It has two entrances, three levels, and it even has a shower! I’ve become pretty familiar with the passages by now. So familiar that I can practically navigate them without the use of my headlamp. A quick right turn from the entrance room leads uphill to The Living Room. That room leads to what they call The Kitchen, which is where I spend a lot of time consuming gorp and other, sometimes too many, forms of sustenance. I’ve found a cozy spot to rest just a short upclimb from The Kitchen. Someone who has been here before me carved a very convenient set of stairs for easier access to this area I call The Bedroom. By far, my favorite room in this cave is called The Dining Room. I don’t know why they call it that because most of the time I find myself eating in the Living Room on the couch while something entertaining like Tiger King is on TV. Anyway, this room has the best formations in the cave (see attached photos). I was fascinated by the pure white soda straws, accompanied by a beautiful- but now very rare, stalagmite below them. So far the bat count is 1, but I’m pretty sure I saw a cute cuddly stuffed one in the Bedroom the other day. I’m really not sure how much longer I’ll be in Quarantine Cave for, but that’s okay. I feel at home here. In the meantime, I hope that everyone on the outside is staying safe, healthy, and practicing distancing in their own caves. We will get through this together, like we always do, as a team. I hope this report brightens your day as we could all use a little laughter these days! Love and hugs to all, Jenna CNJG Chair

09.01.2022 Anyone up for doing the longest uninterrupted walk? From Cape Town to Magadan in Russia it's 22,387km long and it'd take about 187 days of non-stop walking. O...ooor, if you're up for only 8h of walking a day, it'd take you 562 days to complete. A year and a half well spent? Throughout the walk, you'd ascend a total of 117,693m & descend 117,686m, basically the same as 13 round trips up and down Everest Isn't that crazy to think about?! If that's too much for you or if you need some inspiration, check out the 300 best (& shorter!) trails in the world on our Hiking Map: https://awsmaps.rocks/300BestHikes

03.01.2022 We can still go virtual caving

02.01.2022 Shocking to see the extent of the loss in Kosciuszko National Park today. Kosciuszko National Park is home to many of Australia’s most threatened species, inclu...ding the corroboree frog. But their struggle for survival has got a whole lot harder with bushfires blackening hectares and having to share the remaining habitat with 25,000 feral horses. The Berejiklian Barilaro government must urgently overcome its political paralysis, manage the feral horses and save the corroboree frog from extinction.

01.01.2022 A very sad story
