25.01.2022 What's in a name! The working group for the new performing arts awards for Canberra and Queanbeyan have asked Philo to ask its members for suggestions of a name for the awards. Three names were shortlisted previously but failed to garner the support of a majority of those companies in attendance. These were: Dionysus Performing Arts Awards (Dionysus is the Greek God of Theatre)... Ethos Performing Arts Awards (Ethos is the Greek God of Community Spirit) Molonglo Performing Arts Awards (as in the Molonglo River) Names should represent the nature of the awards and will be voted on by the companies from the region. As trademarks and copyright rules apply to most existing awards schemes, the group wants to avoid using the same name as other awards schemes. It was decided very early on that the awards would not be named for any person living or dead. It is anticipated that the awards scheme will be up an running for next calendar year. Once a name has been determined, the group will move forward with formalising a structure, voting for an administrative committee and nominating and voting for judges. Set building starts today, Saturday 14 November from 10am - 3pm at the Hut, 18 Collie Street Fyshwick.
