23.01.2022 Imagine a world where Johnathan Thurston is the governor of North Queensland and the fledgling state’s parliament is conducted in the Cairns Masonic Temple. That was the alternate reality Professor David Flint wove for the crowd at last night’s North Queensland New State Forum at Cazalys. In this parallel universe, Cabinet size is limited to seven, the xanthosia flower is the state’s floral emblem and Floriana the heritage-listed former home of Maltese immigrants Paul and Paulina Zammit on the Esplanade has been repurposed into government house.

22.01.2022 In this episode of Pellowe Talk, Dave Pellow speaks to Professor David Flint about constitutional reform. He says that the problem is not how to achieve some politicians’ republic. Rather, he says, there are few problems today which have not been either caused or made worse by the politicians. The sad fact is that the institutions of our representative democracy one of the world’s oldest have been compromised. The only solution is to make the politicians truly accountable... every day through the tools of direct democracy. ‘’Prof David Flint is my enthralling guest,’’ says Dave Pellowe, after we spoke together at a Qld New State forum in Cairns mid October 2018. He details four strategies to make politicians accountable to the people: The ability to recall politicians individually or collectively to recontest their seats when a significant percentage of the people demand so via petition. Citizen initiated referendums Reform of the political parties to be open transparent, including selection of leaders by the party members, not just the politicians. A return to federalism whereby the states are allowed to compete with other states and make sovereign decisions as their residents prefer.’’ All this, he says, can be done without removing the Australian Crown from the Constitution.

12.01.2022 Writing in the respected American journal, Defence and Foreign Affairs Strategic Policy, May June 2018, Professor David Flint comments on the role of the great powers and especially the United States in influencing constitutional change in other countries. He suggests that care should be taken to respect previous successful institutions, which may well include constitutional monarchy. Professor Flint addressed the Washington-based think tank, the International Strategic Studies Association and its Zahedi Center, on this subject in March of this year. https://norepublic.com.au/on-the-matter-of-constitutional-/

10.01.2022 The Far North’s Catholic Bishop has voiced his support for a breakaway North Queensland state offering up a throne and possible parliament chamber in Cairns. Bishop James Foley believes the throne, currently in his Cairns residence, would make an ideal Speaker’s chair. He agreed with a suggestion by Australians for Constitutional Monarchy leader, Professor David Flint, that Cairns Masonic Hall in Minnie St could house a North Queensland Parliament.

07.01.2022 The SSM postal survey demonstrates how Citizen Initiated Referendums could be used to advantage in Australia, vastly improving decsion making .

06.01.2022 Our founders expected that more states, running there own affairs, would be established in Australia. Provision was made for this in the Constitution, and a wider understanding of this is important. Whether North Queensland should be a state is a matter for the people; on any proper consideration she could easily constitute a state.

01.01.2022 Our decline into Third World status is accelerating. Our students languish behind those of Kazakhstan and Bulgaria in maths and science, whilst our electricity, already crippled by being the world’s most expensive, is even less reliable than Jordan’s or Guatemala’s. Government spending is slightly more efficient than Ethiopia’s, business regulation more burdensome than Bulgaria’s and the cost of organised crime to business marginally better than Nicaragua’s. https://www.2gb.com/podcast/professor-david-flint-47/ ]
