20.01.2022 There’s less than 3 weeks to go before we close the doors at Candyland to undertake our massive refurbishment. We’d love to see all our friends come down for one more play before we undergo our transformation. And stay tuned for updates on our progress. Last day of operation will be 21 March, and we plan to reopen straight after Easter.

17.01.2022 We’ve been blown away by the positive responses to what we’re planning on doing with Candyland, but have been asked a few times now whether the new Shine Shed North West will be suitable for various age groups. In short, Shine Shed North West will still be suitable for toddlers. It will still be suitable for pre-schoolers. Primary aged kids too. And for that matter, High School kids, young adults and the young at heart. But I guess it depends on what you think suitable ...might mean. If suitable means it needs to be the same, Shine Shed North West won’t have the current Candyland climbing equipment or the ball pits or the jumping castle, and it won’t have a semi-segregated play area So what makes it suitable? It’s going to be a safe space for your baby, where they can enjoy a swing or play with sensory panels and toys with your help. It’s going to be a safe space for your toddler, where they can jump on a trampoline or pretend play in the cubby house. It’s going to be a safe space for your school aged child, who may want to enjoy the feeling of riding a flying fox, or leap into an air mat, or try out the climbing wall. It’s going to be a safe space to come and chill, to escape from the sensory overload we sometimes feel around us, finding your own space to relax and recalibrate in the way you feel you need to. It’s going to be a safe space for anyone to do any of those things, whether they require assistance or not. And it’s going to be a safe space for mums and dads, grandmas and grandpas, siblings, carers, guardians who can come and join in, or just keep an eye on what’s happening while relaxing over food and drink from the café. Safe in the knowledge that you’re in a fully fenced area and your little (or big) cherub is safe in their surroundings, and nobody is going to judge whether they’re doing ‘age appropriate’ things. So in short, we think it will be suitable for all those ages. But it will be different, and we realise that this might disappoint some of our loyal attendees. Will the ‘different’ be suitable for everyone? Possibly not, but we’d love you to come down and give us a go once we’ve reopened. We may be biased, but we think it will be a place you want to visit time and again! See more

06.01.2022 A reminder to all that tomorrow is our last day as Candyland. Why not come in for one last visit before the refit? And if you’re worried about the government guidelines, we can hold over 50 people without getting close to the 2m x 2m guidelines released today. We’re excited about the future post refit, so if you can’t make it we’ll look forward to catching all our valued customers on the next stage of our journey.

06.01.2022 For all our ‘old’ friends at Candyland, and ‘new’ friends at Shine Shed North West, we thought we’d give you an update on what’s happening in our COVID-19 world.... Firstly, we hope above all else you are safe and healthy, both physically and mentally. It’s a strange new world we’re in for the foreseeable future, and we hope you can navigate it securely. In some ways the government enforced shut down of children’s playcentres happened at a convenient time we were already scheduled to be closed for our refit. It has taken the pressure off getting everything finished, so we can make sure everything will be perfect when we can finally open the doors and welcome you back. Of course, that means our planned first day as Shine Shed North West can’t be Tuesday 14th, and we have no idea when that can be. Nor can we be sure we can have our grand opening in late April as we had planned. We will keep you posted via social media when we know more but that will be when the threat of the pandemic has passed and we can all resume some level of freedom of movement without threatening the health of those we love and care for. Pre these restrictions, we were fortunate that a group of amazing friends of the business were able to assist stripping out the old play equipment and party spaces, in time to watch a small team of builders and tradies working with appropriate social distancing to achieve great things in a short time frame. As we post this, the building works are basically complete, with only some DIY painting required and new flooring to be installed. Most of the play equipment has been delivered, and will be installed over the coming week or two. We had the pleasure of hosting a virtual walkthrough with our wonderful team today if their reactions are consistent with yours then you’re going to love it! We hope you enjoy some photos from the progress to date, and we’ll post some more once the equipment is installed. Thanks so much for journeying with us we can’t wait to throw open the doors and welcome all our friends (including those friends we haven’t met yet) into the wonderful Shine Shed North West. A shout out and plug for Alex and his team at Castle Painting and Decorating, Colin and the boys from Acorn Building Solutions, and Andrew from Andrew Davies Electrical. And of course the amazing Lisa from The Shine Shed for her ongoing support, guidance and manufacturing and logistics skills. There will be others of course, we will attempt to acknowledge in due course all those businesses who have had an input in making Shine Shed North West into what it’s going to be.

05.01.2022 Just wanted to apologise and say sorry but we are still having issues with our website. Please feel free to send us a DM for any information you are after.

03.01.2022 Just what will we mean by All Abilities Play Centre? Our goal for The Shine Shed North West is fairly simple. We want it to be a place for anyone, of any age, and any level of physical or intellectual ability, to be able to come and play in a safe space. We want it to be a place where there is no judgement.... Where a 20 something year old can jump on a trampoline, squealing with joy because it’s not something they get to do. Where an adult can take a small jump off a platform into an airbag. Where someone in a wheelchair can play inside a cubby house alongside an able bodied friend or sibling. Where someone with sensory needs can chill out in a room with a hammock and bubble column. Where a child with limited movement capabilities can enjoy the feeling of a zip line. Where nobody bats an eyelid if your child does something that is normal for them but unusual for others. Where the number of people at any one time means that our visitors won’t be overwhelmed by a crowd. Where Mum and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, sibling and carer, can sit and relax and enjoy a coffee, safe in the knowledge that their child is in a safe, fenced play area. And where Mum and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, sibling and carer, can make new friends and build relationships with others who understand them. So yes, please bring your babies and toddlers. Please bring your 20 or 30 somethings. Please bring your wheelchairs and your able bodies. Please bring those you love who shine with Downs Syndrome or Autism or genetic conditions or whatever it is that makes them special. Please bring those who are gifted and talented. And please bring everyone in between. Come and enjoy North West Sydney’s first custom designed All Abilities Play Centre, and let those you love shine! Of course, we’d like to think that Candyland Playhouse is that safe space already, but it will truly become all abilities once we’ve done our refit. It’s coming soon, and we will provide more information as we lock in the various details.

03.01.2022 Our refit and rebrand is all starting to come together. Don’t forget to follow us over at Shine Shed North West.

02.01.2022 We are excited to announce that Shine Shed North West will be opening for business Saturday 4th July! We have had many enquires and messages of support over the... last 3 months as we’ve brought our dream to life and waited out COVID 19 restrictions and we thankyou for your support and patience over the past few months- we are feeling humbled and grateful. Special mention to our amazing staff who have stayed with us over this time and will be returning to Shine Shed North West when we open. Our new website is being tweaked to manage the changes that we’ve had to make around how Shine Shed North West will operate, so please continue to follow us on Facebook as we get the message out about operating and session times, visitor information and booking requirements. Feel free to also email any questions to [email protected] On behalf of ourselves as owners and our fantastic Shine Shed North West team, we can’t wait to welcome back our old friends from Candyland Playhouse, our friends who have already started following us at Shine Shed North West and all the new friends we are yet to meet! Sam,Iain, Brianna, Nate and Zach

01.01.2022 We are super excited to announce that Candyland Playhouse is about to become part of the Shine Shed family! After being regular visitors at The Shine Shed All Abilities Play Centre - Campbelltown with our children for the last twelve months and getting to know a little of Lisa and her team, we have been driven with a passion to make Shine Shed even more accessible to Sydney. And so SHINE SHED NORTH WEST has officially been born! We are really grateful to Lisa for her willing...ness to take a chance on us, and all her guidance and help to get as far as we have in such a short period of time. She has been instrumental in helping us design an all abilities play space which you and your children will love. Candyland in its current form will be closing its doors for the last time on Saturday 21 March, and in its place Shine Shed North West will appear from Tuesday 14 April, straight after Easter and just in time for NSW School Holidays! Shine Shed North West will be staffed by the same friendly faces as you’ve seen at Candyland, and we can’t wait to meet you all in our fully refurbished centre! Our new centre will be fully accessible, have a range of amazing sensory equipment to meet sensory needs and will be suitable for all ages even adults. It remains business as usual for Candyland until 21 March, and we will take advance bookings for the refurbished centre shortly. We will be launching a new website and FB page shortly and will continue to post updates to the Candyland page. In the meantime, why not head over to the Shine Shed page and check out some of the great things that Lisa and her team do? We’d love you to stay with us on this journey as we open the first purpose designed all abilities play centre in North West Sydney! Sam, Iain and family
