25.01.2022 Back in the field searching for the dusky black-tailed antechinus with QUT and Stephane Batista

24.01.2022 Was a great day doing a demonstration with Ash at the Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance and WWF filed event last week.

24.01.2022 Max hit the jackpot of koala scats yesterday! He sure loves his work on post-fire koala surveys.

24.01.2022 Detector dogs and high-tech habitat modelling are proving a wining combo in the hunt for rare and endangered silver-headed and black-tailed dusky antechinus in ...the forests of eastern Queensland. Threatened Species Recovery Hub researchers working with the Queensland Herbarium, Queensland Environment Department and Canines For Wildlife are searching for the cute carnivorous marsupials. It’s important work as knowing where they occur is vital for effective conservation. With a large part of the known and potential range of the species burnt in this summer's fires, detecting surviving populations and protecting them is more important than ever. 23.01.2022 Jessie's turn to start air scenting training. Boom! Gotcha poacher! It's just light and short training at this age and Steve is thrilled with the progress of both Max and Jessie.

23.01.2022 Recent surveys on the New England Tablelands for Bell's turtle nests; waterholes low and country very dry. Protected nest from last season successfully hatched.

19.01.2022 Good day for Max today doing post fire Koala surveys. Working on some very steep hills in Gumbaynggirr SCA.

17.01.2022 End of a successful post-fire koala survey with the Border Ranges Alliance.

16.01.2022 We are proud to feature in episode one of a three-part series created for National #threatenedspecies day. The series supports the launch of a stunning and curious new children's book Antechinus in the Attic. The book is both a conservation awareness and action campaign for children. If you would like to purchase a copy of the book and support our work at Canines for Wildlife you can use this link: https://www.trybooking.com/BLISK Or to learn a little more: https://www.facebook.com/Caninesforwildlife/posts/3393088420751819

15.01.2022 Our dogs work hard to support wildlife conservation. They need good nutrition to work at their best and they thrive on the quality meat from Valley Quality Meats Bellingen.

14.01.2022 The magazine "Science for Saving Species" just published, features an article on the use scent detection dogs to find endangered montane antechinus. 11.01.2022 Ash the Koala detection dog meeting and greeting at the Great Koala National Park Koala Breakfast held recently for meeting with the NSW Koala Parliamentary inquiry. Thanks to Chris Hewgill and others for the photos.

08.01.2022 It is very exciting to see research that Canines for Wildlife has collaborated on published in the Journal of Evolution and Ecology. The paper compares the use of remote cameras to Elliot trapping and investigates the use of scent detection dogs to survey for the endangered black-tailed dusky antechinus. The paper concludes that detection dogs can be a highly effective means of locating threatened, cryptic species, especially when traditional methods are unable to detect low-density mammal populations. 08.01.2022 Brad, Jack and Max working with Jali LALC, DPIE & Dave Milledge on the endangered long-nosed potoroo project. Was great to meet with the Minister today and discuss conservation scent detection dogs and feral cat and fox control on the Ngunya Jargoon IPA property.

08.01.2022 Jaliigirr works with Canines For Wildlife. Dogs are much, much better than people at finding koalas. This detection dog, Max, has been doing post fire Koala su...rveys in some very steep hills in Gumbaynggirr SCA. He lets his handlers know when he has found some scats by lying near them. This detection work is vital as we strive to better understand our biodiversity in the JBA area. See more
