To see more throwbacks to the past, follow the link below to ...subscribe! https://proavl-central.com/subscribe/mea - Following the launch of The Dark Side of the Moon, 1973 was a vintage year for the definitive prog rockers Pink Floyd. Almost 50 years later, the album remains one of the most critically acclaimed records in history, having charted in the US Billboard for 950 weeks in total. With estimated sales of over 45 million copies, it is Pink Floyds best-seller and one of the best-selling albums worldwide. For the huge world tour that accompanied its release, Allen & Heath supplied the Mod1 Quad console. The FOH engineer patching up this 12- or 16-input beast up prior to Money, Time and Us & Them being belted out across the sports hall was naturally a multi-talented chap. This was an era of pioneering technologies when engineers had to make do with what they had in front of them. Adorning this working model, the peach and packet of Dunhill Internationals highlight the fact that tour cuisine was in its infancy and smoking was actively encouraged within venues. Judging by this photo, perhaps the Mod1 Quad was built into its own flight case. Successive Mod2 and Mod3 state-of-the-art consoles would be later taken out on the road by The Who and Genesis, among others. In later years, the Cornish manufacturer was perhaps a little sensitive to tour riders stipulating No Allen & Heath. Following the global success of its flagship dLive digital mixing system, its boards have been specified by a growing legion of engineers on international riders including Fifth Harmony, Travis, Bring Me The Horizon (BMTH), Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Morrissey and AIR. Equipped with 216 assignable fader strips (36 faders over six layers), dual 12-inch capacitive touchscreens and Harmony UI, the interface of the S7000 has been built for the rigours of the road, including drop tests with the exception of cigarette burns or fruit juice seepage. The Mod1 Quad, meanwhile, is now performing at The Great Gig in the Sky.
