21.01.2022 Today is a great outcome for Australians with breast cancer, and the culmination of a decade of work by women around the country, health professionals and BCNA!... Both the Australian Government and the Opposition have announced an extension of the Medicare rebate for breast MRI and PET scans for women with breast cancer. This change was a key recommendation from our State of the Nation report released last year after we heard stories of women paying up to $1,500 for a single scan as part of their treatment. This announcement is a major step forward for Australians with breast cancer and will allow more people to make evidence-based decisions about their treatment. 01.01.2022 Surgery for gynaecological cancer needs to be as minimally invasive as it possibly can be. Important steps towards that goals have been made last week at the SG...O Annual Meeting on Womens Cancer in New Orleans. I enjoyed catching up with many colleagues and friends. In the picture is Prof Michael Quinn, President of the International Gynaecological Cancer Society (IGCS) and Prof Pedro Ramirez from the MD Anderson Cancer Centre who is also the incoming Editor-in-Chief of the IGCS journal. The scientific program was outstanding. There were lots of presentations that will help gynaecological oncologists in all parts of the world offering better surgery in the future. It has been a great conference but I also enjoy being back home again.
