24.01.2022 ALTHOUGH they hope they never have to use it, Padstow Rotary has purchased a portable defibrillator to be used in case of emergency at local Rotary events like Panania Markets, the Christmas tree sale, Carols night and Bunnings barbecues, for example. Costing $2,000, members believe it is a great investment in community health. We now feel confident if an emergency arises we should be able to give someone a better chance of survival, Rotary’s Garry Metcalfe said. Twenty of... our members have attended training classes on CPR and the correct use of the defibrillator. We saw a need after noting that anyone, regardless of age, can have a heart attack. It does seem strange to spend so much money on something you hope you won’t have to use but if you speak to someone who has been saved, then it’s definitely well worth it. We’re keeping it with our Rotary van so it's ready whenever we do a local project.
