25.01.2022 We hope you're keeping safe and well. We're working on getting one or two tracks from our CDs available to listen to online - will keep you posted when that's up and running. There is still beautiful music out there...

25.01.2022 We were delighted to have His Excellency Governor De Jersey at our Sunday performance. From left to right: Nick Kirkup (tenor), Rachael Griffin (soprano), Anne Fulton (alto), Daniel Smerdon (bass), Anatoly Frusin (stage director), Emily Cox AM (music director), Governor De Jersey.

24.01.2022 Stay tuned for tomorrow!

24.01.2022 Thoughts beautifully expressed...

23.01.2022 What's so good about Bach? Why not come along to our production of his Christmas Oratorio on 12 or 13 December and see for yourself! https://www.theguardian.com//classicalmusicandopera.jsbach

23.01.2022 To say that this year has been a challenge for arts groups is an understatement. We're pleased to launch an online support drive via the user-friendly GiveNow platform. Please note, gifts to Canticum are TAX DEDUCTIBLE and receipts are issued. Any help would be appreciated, including sharing this through your networks. Thank you!

21.01.2022 Essential equipment for conductors in the covid world!

21.01.2022 This is some of the delicious music we're singing at this afternoon's Lessons and Carols Service at St Mary's. Come and hear how beautiful it is! And sing with us for the carols!

21.01.2022 In these uncertain and rapidly-changing times we want to assure you that Canticum Chamber Choir puts the health and well-being of our supporters and singers as our top priority. We're monitoring the situation with respect to public gatherings, and will act upon any emerging advice from government and health authorities, or earlier if we consider our own circumstances warrant it. All scheduled concerts are going ahead at this stage.... Should this change, we'll immediately post details about any cancelled or rescheduled events. In the meantime, stay safe, everyone!

21.01.2022 With two performances coming up next weekend - Saturday 29 August at 2pm and Sunday 30 August at 3pm - we want to assure our supporters that we've been following a Covid-safe plan, and of course our venue, Sacred Heart, has Covid-safe procedures also. Let's hope this new outbreak does not spread widely. Our thoughts are with those affected.

20.01.2022 We are looking forward to performing a beautiful work by this composer in our forthcoming Good Friday concert, 10 April, 5:30, at Sacred Heart, Rosalie, Brisbane...an interesting article on this wonderful musical voice.

19.01.2022 It is with some sadness that we announce the cancellation of both the Nocturnes and Good Friday Musical Meditation concerts. While there is a strong desire to find solace in the beauty of music at this uncertain and disturbing time, nothing is more important than doing everything within our power to reduce the spread of Covid-19. To continue with events at which people will sit close together for an extended period would be irresponsible and reckless. We wish you all the very best of health and safety, and hope to see you at a concert later in the year.

19.01.2022 The first of our weekend concerts was this afternoon, and it was such a good feeling to be singing for people again! Last show is tomorrow - all booked out, which we're grateful for. Feedback from today was that it was quite breezy sitting near the side doors. For those who've booked for tomorrow, we recommend bringing a shawl or cardigan, just in case. If you've booked and can no longer come, please return your ticket via the link in your Trybooking confirmation email. Then we can pass them on to the waiting list.

19.01.2022 In time for Mothers Day, here is Trond Kverno's beautiful setting of the ancient hymn "Ave Maris Stella". This recording is from our CD "Soul Journey" and it starts very quietly. We wish you a safe and happy day.

19.01.2022 Work is progressing well on Bach’s Christmas Oratorio...it’ll be here before we know it! Tickets available at this link: https://www.trybooking.com/BMFBZ No door sales are possible due to Covid, so please book in advance!

19.01.2022 On a day when we'd normally be preparing for one of our most loved annual concert events, Canticum would like to wish you all the best this Easter. Stay safe, stay well, and most importantly, stay at home. We hope you've been enjoying the marvellous music being shared online by groups from all over the world, as the beautiful music community bands together to spread a message of hope and connection in an international language all can understand.

19.01.2022 Here's a small snippet from Wednesday night's rehearsal in the lovely Sacred Heart Catholic Church, at Rosalie, Brisbane. Come along next Wednesday 31 March at 8pm to hear the rest! Get your tickets here: https://www.trybooking.com/BOXAQ

18.01.2022 We met our wonderful orchestra for the first time this afternoon. Wow! If you don't have your tickets yet, be sure to book online. Sunday is sold out, but there are still seats left for Saturday evening. https://www.trybooking.com/BMFBZ

17.01.2022 It's Canticum Lore that the choir that eats well, sings well. That's what we tell ourselves, anyway, and we've not yet had cause to disbelieve it. Our first rehearsal of 2020 starts in style. Beautiful music coming your way!

16.01.2022 Physically distanced, vocally connected. Getting ready for this weekend's concerts, which are booked out. How great to be performing again!

16.01.2022 Huge congratulations to our founding director and conductor Emily for receiving the Member of the Order of Australia in today's Australia Day Honours. We're proud to have you as our leader and inspiration, and we hope you'll stay with us for another 25 years! Catherine (Emily) Cox For significant service to the performing arts through choral music.

16.01.2022 Here's a little lockdown sweetener to help you find a sense of calm over the next few days. Recorded last year at our "The Road Home" concert in Sacred Heart. We're optimistic that we'll be back in this lovely venue this Friday for our Holy Week concert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCIKT1q2VCo&t=36s

15.01.2022 Try to arrive a bit early for tomorrow's Lessons and Carols Service at St Mary's, Kangaroo Point, as there may be a few other events on nearby creating a high demand for parking. Organ music from Christopher Wrench starts at 5.10pm, with the service commencing at 5.30pm. There's some lovely music on the program, as well as carols you can sing with us. Come along!

15.01.2022 Countdown is on...shots from out first venue rehearsal with everything together. Dress rehearsal tonight. Some tickets left for Saturday but I don’t think they’ll last long! Excited? Yes I am! https://fb.me/e/4JQ8eav8a

14.01.2022 We're good to go for tomorrow's concert! It's sold out, but there will be another performance (postponed from last night) next Wednesday 7 April which you can still get tickets for.

14.01.2022 Get a 2020 Season Subscription and save $5 off the cost of each Brisbane concert! This is the perfect gift for that Special Someone (including you), so if you're stuck for ideas for Valentine's Day, look no further! https://www.trybooking.com/BIJLL

14.01.2022 Here are a couple of photos from yesterday's Carols on the Cliffs. It was such a delight to sing carols with the congregation, and present other beautiful music in between. Thank you for coming along, and for supporting us throughout 2019.

13.01.2022 Some of our singers took part in this project with Manila Chamber Singers. The grand launch is tomorrow! We can't wait to see the result...

13.01.2022 Our friends in Brisbane Chorale are sounding fantastic in the last rehearsals before their Brahms Requiem concerts this weekend! Only a few seats are left, so check their website to book your ticket.

12.01.2022 Is it a night club? No, it's part of our Christmas Oratorio production. Today's performance is all sold out. Maybe allow a little extra driving time if you're one of the lucky ones coming along? It's pretty wet out there!

12.01.2022 Canticum's Good Friday Musical Meditation is such an important event for us, not just for the remarkable music we're privileged to sing, but also because it means a lot to many of our loyal supporters. It's tough not being able to share the experience with you this year, so here's one we prepared earlier. This video (slow slide show, really) accompanies excerpts from our 2002 live recording of the Good Friday concert at St John's Cathedral. We hope you'll enjoy this walk down memory lane. Please feel free to share the post if you wish. Stay healthy and safe.

12.01.2022 Pending the outcome of the current lockdown, Wednesday's Holy Week concert has been postponed until the following Wednesday 7 April. The time and venue remain the same - 8pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rosalie. Our gratitude goes to Sacred Heart for graciously accommodating this change. We're still optimistic that our Good Friday concert will proceed as scheduled, but will provide an update if required. Stay safe, everyone!

11.01.2022 How exciting to be rehearsing again, albeit divided into smaller groups on separate nights! Here we are with our first foray into physically distanced choral singing. With various doors and windows open for ventilation on a cold night in winter, the cobwebs were certainly blown away!

11.01.2022 Watch this space for an update about our concert plans following the announcement this morning of a snap 3-day lockdown. Let's stay positive! Our situation is so good compared to most of the world...

11.01.2022 Our versatile baritones strike up the band! Come and see what this is all about at Carols on the Cliffs - Sunday 15 December, 5.10pm, St Mary's Anglican Church, Kangaroo Point.

10.01.2022 Sunday is sold out, and Saturday is very close - if you'd like to come and see this wonderful presentation of Bach's Christmas Oratorio, you'll need to book your tickets fast! Bookings for Saturday will close at 10 Saturday morning unless sold out earlier. https://www.trybooking.com/BMFBZ Photos by Matthew Kerr.

10.01.2022 It was truly such a joy to perform two short concerts last weekend to our small but very appreciative audiences! We hope to have a video of much of last weekend's concert to post soon, so people unable to attend can enjoy the experience too! Watch this space! These concerts, titled "The Road Home", really felt like THAT for us, as an ensemble -a road home! We feel a great impetus and energy to persevere toward presenting our semi-staged Bach Christmas Oratorio performances in December, all being well! Making live music as we did at these small concerts recently is certainly something we'll never take for granted again!

10.01.2022 Choirs helping choirs. Canticum women test run some Zoom tech for Brisbane Chorale's forthcoming adventures in remote rehearsing. It all went well, but gosh it was cold out last night! Great to work with the good folk of Folklore Sound and Music!

09.01.2022 Meet our brilliant tenor soloist, Nick Kirkup! Nick has been an active performer in and around Queensland since 2005, and in 2010 was the recipient of the prestigious $20,000 Joyce Campbell Lloyd scholarship, which allowed him to undertake further study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Nick joined the Opera Queensland chorus in 2016 and has appeared in numerous productions for the company, as well as working as a facilitator for Opera Qld's community workshops. We can't wait to work with Nick on Bach's Christmas Oratorio! Book your tickets here: https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=671319&

08.01.2022 The new style of committee meetings. A little bit Brady Bunch, but quite effective.

07.01.2022 Here is our tribute to the wonderful Ian McKinley, who was such an important part of the Canticum story. This is from our "In Paradisum" CD from 2005, and features soprano soloist Patricia Bartkowiak. Vale, Ian.

07.01.2022 We know Christmas is barely over, but...

07.01.2022 Thank you for your support throughout a very busy 2020! Here's a snippet from Carols on the Cliffs, starting with the men singing Emily's lovely arrangement of verse 2 of "Lo, how a rose", and moving into the women and congregation joining for verse 3. The photos are just a small selection showing some highlights of the year.

07.01.2022 We're using a new (for us) ticketing platform this year, and tickets for our wonderful Good Friday Musical Meditation are now available. Here's the link if you'd like to join us at this popular annual event. https://www.trybooking.com/BIHUC

07.01.2022 Introducing our wonderful alto soloist, Anne Fulton. Anne is an Honours Graduate from the Queensland Conservatorium, and has been a soloist with Opera Queensland, QSO, the Queensland Ballet, and many renowned choral groups in Australia and abroad. She has had roles with Opera Queensland in various productions, including Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto, The Merry Widow and La Fanciulla del West. We can't wait to hear Anne in our production of Bach's Christmas Oratorio! Book your tickets here - https://www.trybooking.com/BMFBZ

07.01.2022 If you look carefully, you can see St Mary's Anglican Church, Kangaroo Point, sticking out very prominently from the top of the cliffs. It's a very different skyline now!

05.01.2022 A beautiful offering from Manila Chamber Singers - we are so glad we could be part of this international gathering of choirs, to celebrate your journey with you - and to think about the journey we are all on at the moment. Thank you for having us, Manila Chamber Singers

03.01.2022 Congratulations once again to Emily Cox on receiving her Order of Australia. And how unique to have private ceremonies!

02.01.2022 Here is a little hello from Emily during the very unusual times we are all navigating. Have you noticed how incredibly beautiful the evenings are lately, and how bright the stars are? (Well, they are in Brisbane, Australia!) I've noticed, and thats why Ive been thinking of the poem "Sure on this Shining Night by James Agee, and Morten Lauridsens beautiful setting for choir. Feel free to enjoy our performance, recorded a few years ago if you wish, share it with friends and family near and far, with a sense of quiet anticipation of healing, and the time when we can all gather again. - Emily.

01.01.2022 The women of Canticum had such a wonderful time singing in this concert! Listen today! Thank you Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

01.01.2022 We hope 2020 has started well for you, but we're very aware that so far this has been a shockingly challenging time for so many. Good luck to all who are in danger from fires, and please take care if you're in an area with hazardous air quality.
