21.01.2022 ON THE ROAD | COOK SHIRE 2031 This week we hit the road and kicked off our Cook Shire 2031 community consultation process with community members taking the ...opportunity to meet with Councillors and council staff at events held at Hann River, Musgrave and Archer River roadhouses, Bramwell Station, Laura, Portland Roads and Coen. The events have been a great opportunity for Councillors and staff to understand the challenges facing remote communities and have also highlighted some unique opportunities for growth and development across the region. More events are being held in Cooktown, Lakeland, Bloomfield and Marton in the coming weeks with the consultation process continuing until the end of the year. 17.01.2022 Search and rescue for Nambour man last seen at Cooktown A SEARCH operation is underway in Cooktown after a 59-year-old Sunshine Coast man was reported missing in the area overnight. Ian Robertson’s black 2006 Ford Falcon utility was located on Battle Camp Road around 2pm on Monday. He was last seen four days ago taking what appeared to be camping gear out of the ute, which was parked near Battle Camp Road at the time.... A search has commenced involving police, State Emergency Services and a helicopter in the area where his vehicle was found. Ian is described as Caucasian, around 170cm in height, with a proportionate build, dark brown hair and brown eyes. Police hold concern for his welfare. Anyone who may have seen him, or his Falcon is urged to contact police immediately. 14.01.2022 Fire alert from QFES as at 8am this morning. A vegetation fire is burning in bushland near the Annan River Bridge on the southside of the Annan River, Cooktown. The fire is expected to continue to burn for the coming days and is posing no threat to property. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews will continue the monitor the fire. Nearby residents may be affected by smoke. Residents are asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory conditi...on, keep medications close by. Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions. If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Earlier... Cooktown vegetation fire as at 5pm Mon 21 Sept Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are currently on scene at a vegetation fire burning in bushland north of Sampson Street and west of the Mulligan Highway, Cooktown. The fire is posing no threat to property at this time. Firefighters are working to contain the blaze. Nearby residents may be affected by smoke. Residents are asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by. Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.
