25.01.2022 It’s exciting to see more durian flowers... roll on Jan-Feb! But behind the scenes a little drama unfolded last night - look carefully in the first photo and you’ll see the back of a night tiger (tree snake). Now snakes aren’t regarded as pollinators, so what was this little fella up to? Turns out that a bunch of durian flowers makes a great hide from which to prey upon the pollinators - in this case a cute blossom bat, who sadly pollinated its last durian , though in the commotion maybe the night tiger did in fact contribute to the pollination after all. Keep an eye out for the release of the new night tiger durian in March!! Guaranteed to have bite...

17.01.2022 Yellow Pitaya flower opened tonight ready for pollinating by nighttime insects and bats - by morning it’ll wilt (like the one behind/to the bottom) - a beautiful ‘one night stand’! Imagine shaping your hands like a bowl 8 across - that’s how big this is. The fruit is the pick of the Pitaya family (includes Dragonfruit) for sweetness and flavour. Soon to be on the Fruit Tasting menu!

17.01.2022 How’s this for a breakfast fruit platter and home made preserves! @cape_trib_farm provides you with an amazing fruit bowl of whatever’s available and currently ...growing on the farm. Yellow Mangosteen jam, Grapefruit jam and Jaboticaba jam all hit the spot on freshly toasted bread. So can you name all these fruits? Thank you Jeremy and Merran for your wonderful hospitality and your off the grid location. It has been a great start to this trip. Looking forward to and I’m excited to the upcoming season. @ Cape Trib Farm - Exotic Fruit Tasting

13.01.2022 Building static compost piles on our farm. Did you know just one teaspoon of good compost can contain as many as 5 billion organisms and thousands of different species? What an amazing way to feed our soil life!

13.01.2022 Easter story: Passionfruit, so named by the Spanish Catholic missionaries to South America in the 16th century as it was used as a metaphor for the crucifixion (Passion) of Christ, to convert indigenous people to Christianity. Passionfruit originated in the continent, so was a familiar plant to the locals. The passionfruit flower (see pic) was referred to as flor das cinco chagas or "flower of the five wounds" because of the five stamens - each stamen representing a wound o...f Jesus - one in each hand and foot, and the wound in his side. There are 3 styles - representing the three nails to nail Jesus to the cross; 5 sepals + 5 petals representing the 10 faithful disciples (excluded Judas who betrayed Jesus, and Peter who denied knowing Jesus); the ovary representing the sponge soaked in vinegar; and the filaments representing the crown of thorns placed around Jesus’ head. Regardless of your religious beliefs, it makes for a fascinating story and one you will remember every time you now eat a passionfruit! Happy Easter, wherever you may be self-isolating!!
