25.01.2022 The benefits of composting Making compost at home doesn’t just lighten our rubbish bin and help our gardens. It also helps tackle climate change. Each year in Australia, food waste rotting in landfill creates methane equivalent to around 6.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. ... If you aren't already composting, maybe you should give it a go! Here are some handy hints to get you started: https://theconversation.com/what-can-go-in-the-compost-bin-

24.01.2022 Rockhampton Regional Libraries are collecting the stories of people who experienced the Gracemere/Kabra/Stanwell 2018 bushfire event first-hand. These will form an important social historical record for future generations to learn from. My family and I will be contributing our stories, mine is particularly interesting because I was not here when it happened. I was in Brisbane sitting across from the Environment Minister sharing the Central Queensland environmental challenges we are facing at an ever-increasing destructive level. Regards, Sherie, Coordinator. Add your story here: shorturl.at/bhK28 #climatechange #climateemergency #australiafires #climatecouncil

14.01.2022 What happens is we continue on the greenhouse gas emission path we are on? Our global temperatures will rise significantly more than the 2-degree maximum target set by the Paris agreement - even if every country meets its agreed target. Have a read of what lies ahead - or watch the short video inside. https://theconversation.com/seriously-ugly-heres-how-austra

14.01.2022 The Queensland Government has recently banned transshipment (off-shore loading from barges to bulk carriers). Fantastic, especially for local pod of Orcaella heinsohni , Flatback Turtles, Capricorn Yellow Chat et al. The Port of Gladstone proposed expanding coal export into the Fitzroy River Delta for coal barge transshipment from Raglan Creek through the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area for offloading in the Marine Park to super-Cape Class Bulk Carriers. Meanwhile Nearby Douglas Shoal is still recovering from the Shen Neng 1 bulk coal carrier collision in 2010. http://www.gbrmpa.gov.au//douglas-shoal-environmental-reme
13.01.2022 Prime Minister Scott Morrison's hand-picked Covid Commission is stacked with fossil fuel executives who have a one-track vision for new fracking wells and gas pipelines. WHAT THE FUNGUS! #keepitintheground #renewableenergy

10.01.2022 It's National Threatened Species Day this week! Central Queensland is home to many threatened species that are struggling to survive. It's important to take the time to consider what you can do to help our native flora & fauna. Check out our blog post over at our website to learn more! https://cccqld.org.au/national-threatened-species-week/
09.01.2022 For 20 years Paola & family & supporters have protected & nurtured the native plants and animals of the almost 8000 ha. Bimblebox Nature Refuge, a rare uncleared gem in Central Qld. They signed legal contracts with state and federal governments to protect the property in 'perpetuity'. They kept their word. The governments didn't.
08.01.2022 Who remembers when the Fitzroy Delta and Keppel Bay were saved, after concerted community action (Keppel and Fitzroy Delta Alliance) and strong scientific evidence*, from 12 million cu.m. dredging for a proposed Balaclava Island Coal Export Terminal and coal barge trans-shipment through the GBR Marine Park to coal bulkers off Hummocky Island? CCC is attending THE PORT OF ROCKHAMPTON SUSTAINABLE SEDIMENT MANAGEMENT PROJECT today Did you know that Port Alma (Raglan Cree...k) located in the Fitzroy River delta ~45 km southeast of Rockhampton has: One shipping terminal Port Alma Shipping Terminal Three berths, two for general cargo, one for liquids Key products are explosives, ammonium nitrate, tallow, fuels, agricultural and military products Approx. 95% of Australia's NH4NO3 trade 60 - 80 vessels annually Last maintenance dredging was in 2011 *Gladstone's Wiggins Island coal terminal has proven to be a 'stranded asset' and with the international coal market tanking seems unlikely ever recover financially. Thank-you KAFDA partners for saving the ecosystem, and shareholder's cash. See more
07.01.2022 Here in Rockhampton we are lucky to have a bounty of lovely free sunshine year-round. The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) is currently considering a proposal to tax solar panel owners for using this sun to sustainably power our country. This tax could also result in higher electricity prices for non-solar panel users. Follow the link to learn more and to find out what you can do! https://cccqld.org.au/proposed-solar-tax-could-see-electri/

05.01.2022 A win for our Reef! Thanks to your support, the dangerous practice of trans-shipping - the transfer of materials between ships at sea - is now banned in the Gr...eat Barrier Reef. This decision from the Palaszczuk government comes after years of campaigning to stop the industrialisation of our beautiful Reef. Thank you for using your voice to make this happen.

04.01.2022 Governments are under pressure over community and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Please remind your local MP through ACF link below to ensure that Australia’s declining biodiversity is not run-over in the rush to ‘get back to normal’* The link below from Australian Conservation Foundation helps you identify threatened species in your postcode area. 04.01.2022 Last week, more than 100 Traditional Owners from across the country met in Cairns to share insights on tackling heatwaves, rising sea levels and species deaths. Changing climate affects our cultural practices, it’s changing our seasonal calendars, said Bianca McNeair, is a Malgana woman from Gatharagudu (Shark Bay). Birds’ movements across country have changed, so that’s changing songlines that they’ve been singing for thousands and thousands of years.... You know, we are very resilient people, so it’s a challenge we were ready to take on. But now we’re facing a situation that’s not predictable, it’s not part of our natural environmental pattern. https://www.theguardian.com//we-want-to-be-included-first-
