19.01.2022 Communicare is offering the following programs that you might be interested in: Job Talk April 15: 1.00pm 4.00pm... This three day workshop aims to provide participants with a range of practical and knowledge based skills to assist in gaining employment in Australia. The workshops covers resume writing and job search skills, interview skills, employer rights, occupational health and safety and more. Participants will have access to Communicare’s extensive industry partnerships to enhance their employment prospects and will receive ongoing support from Settlement Service Activities staff. Safe Driver Education Program April 19: 12.30pm - 4.00pm This workshop is designed to provide participants with an overview of safe driving practises, essential road rules, how to get an Australian driver’s license and the process of purchasing a car. They will also receive a small amount of financial assistance to be put towards their driving tuition after successful completion of the workshop. If you would like to participate in these programs, please let CARAD know and we will complete a referral. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Communicare Settlement Services Team on 9470 5381.

17.01.2022 The Western Australian Museum (WA Museum) and the Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD) is looking to understand more about the lives and experiences of refugees and asylum seekers who have or are attempting to make Western Australia their home. We are currently seeking expressions of interest from people aged 18 to 30 who would like to be involved in a workshop program series called ‘Sharing Stories’ to develop stories for inclusion in the New Museum for... WA, opening in late 2020. We would like to hear from people about their experiences before, during, or after their journey to Western Australia; as much as they are willing to share. The stories they share with us will help us to develop stories for a display in the New Museum for WA that are relevant to their experiences and can educate the broader Western Australian public about refugee issues. 10.01.2022 The Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD) would like to share some information with you about a program that helps people start small businesses, that you might be eligible to participate in: New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) To see the Brochure The NEIS program provides:-... Free business training and the opportunity to gain a Certificate III in Micro Business Operations 12 months of support from a qualified business mentor Financial support for the first 9 months of running their business The Department of Employment, which funds the program has provided the following eligibility criteria: 1) Participants must hold a valid visa for working in Australia. This can include holders of a current Temporary Protection Visa or Bridging Visa with work rights, and have at least 15 months validity remaining on their current VISA. (This allows enough time to complete the 3 week training course as well as the 12 months duration of the NEIS program). 2) Participants also need to pass the online literacy/numeracy test to ensure their English language ability is at an adequate level to complete the training. 3) Participants must be over 18 years of age. 4) Participants must not already be engaged in full time work or full time study. The business training courses are held every month in both Fremantle and Perth, as well as online. CARAD clients who are eligible are most welcome to apply. 08.01.2022 Absolutely over the moon at the attendance and vibe at our second Combined University Information Session on Tuesday night. Around 30 clients, many of them new to CARAD attended to meet with around 30 reps from the Universities and refugee agencies. Thanks to everyone for coming along.

The evening will give information on eligibility, possible scholarships, and relevant information for admission to study in 2018. Four universities will be represented, and refugee agencies will be available for consultation throughout the evening.
