25.01.2022 We can all be F.A.S.T. Heroes! This National Stroke Week (Aug 31-Sept 6) Stroke Foundation is urging Australians from all walks of life to become the next generation of F.A.S.T. Heroes. A F.A.S.T. hero is anyone who can help save a life simply by knowing how to recognise the F.A.S.T. (Face. Arms. Speech and Time) signs of stroke. ... When a stroke happens, brain cells start dying at a frightening rate of up to 1.9 million per minute, but medical treatments can stop this damage. The message is simple Time is brain. The faster you can be treated after stroke, the more chance you have of making a full recovery. https://bit.ly/3fc8dMb #strokeweek2020

25.01.2022 'Because we are the ones who love the most vulnerable inside' - Jillian Benfield

25.01.2022 We are nearing the $10,000 mark for our Stroke Foundation Stride4Stroke campaign. Our community made this happen, we are so incredibly grateful for our families who have taken the time to fundraise while also managing raising their Warriors during a pandemic. As well as their support networks getting involved, raising awareness and moving their bodies in celebration of our littlest stroke survivors. We have come so far in the last few years but due to the lack of resources a...nd education about childhood stroke we still have so much more to do. Thank you to those who have donated, this money will make a difference to the lives of children and families impacted by stroke. COVID19 has presented many challenges particularly financial challenges yet everyone has found money for our kids - it’s really humbling to have your support. We have 3 weeks to go, if you would like to sponsor our team, click the link below to donate. Every little bit counts. https://www.stride4stroke.org.au/fundr/LittleStrokeWarriors

23.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day and we would like to encourage all of you to reach out and support one another and ask, are you ok? Quite often warrior parents will seem as though they’re ok. They’re often the most selfless people, constantly putting their child’s needs before their own sometimes without choice, and they rarely have a minute to dedicate to themselves or even check in with their own feelings. It’s usually just autopilot for some. We would encourage anyone who knows a w...arrior parent to check in and ask the question, not just today but frequently. Please know our inbox is always open, you are not alone. We are stronger in this fight against stroke together. Big hugs and love to you all, be kind to yourself and know it’s okay to not be okay. https://youtu.be/erHLP29tzPE

23.01.2022 Researchers from Cerebral Palsy Alliance, The University of Sydney, and research partners from CP Quest are conducting an online research survey to understand the financial costs of living with cerebral palsy. The researchers would like to determine the out of pocket costs, and the level of financial stress, for people living with cerebral palsy and their families. The online anonymous survey will capture costs related to health, modifications to the home/car, transport, ed...ucation, equipment, employment, leisure and respite, across all ages and severity of cerebral palsy - from your perspective. Working out these costs is essential to assist the government and other interested parties in assigning funding, and for families and those living with cerebral palsy to be able to advocate for necessary funding. To share your experience and contribute to this research, click on: https://redcap.sydney.edu.au/surveys/?s=D9XDFF4TDK (For a person with CP) https://redcap.sydney.edu.au/surveys/?s=H8KTDY3FN7 (For a carer/parent) For more information please contact: Claire Galea - [email protected] Isabelle Balde - [email protected]

23.01.2022 A brilliant article from young Stroke survivor Em Gee about the importance of person centred care in Occupational Therapy https://otaus.com.au//the-importance-of-person-centred-car

22.01.2022 We are so grateful for the progression our cause has made over the previous few years with the support of the Stroke Foundation and the Stroke team at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Recent funding from the Federal Government will ensure children receive immediate life saving and life changing treatment to prevent long term disability or death when presenting to hospital with the signs of stroke. But we have a way to go and we won’t stop fighting until we bridge the gap between adult stroke care and paediatric stroke care

21.01.2022 Warrior Strong! Thank you from all of us for your kind donations - we are still raising funds but super grateful we have achieved our $10,000 goal! We have so much to do in the childhood stroke space. Every cent will be spent developing much needed resources to help not only our current little Warriors and their families, but future families as well! Our community is incredible. Well done to you all!!!

20.01.2022 Once again this amazing lady who is a survivor herself has raised much needed funds for our cause. Thank you to everyone who donated, and to Shelagh for everything you do to help our kids. You are simply the best! #weloveourstrokecommunity

19.01.2022 For children the impact of stroke is often lifelong, many children may physically recover but live with ongoing invisible disabilities such as fatigue, sensory processing disorders, difficulties regulating emotions and the list goes on. These kids are incredible, they endure so much yet they persevere through it all to live their best life #strokeweek2020 #kidshavestrokestoo @strokefdn

18.01.2022 Our team are smashing their Stride4Stroke kms - completing 1,808 kms so far! Well done to you all! There is nothing more valuable than good health and positive wellbeing

18.01.2022 Sadly this is very true, some of our Little Warriors have had many strokes. Absolutely heart breaking to think that after going through so much therapy having to start all over again. Our cause is very grateful for the recent government funding but this is only the beginning. We need more research #strokeweek2020 #thesewarriorsareamazing @strokefdn

17.01.2022 F - is their face drooping, A - can they lift both arms, S - is their speech slurred, T - Time to call an ambulance on 000 - Time is brain. Know the signs - you can save a life #strokeweek2020

16.01.2022 Thanks to the Stroke team at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne for providing these Paediatric Stroke facts, to help us raise awareness this Stroke Week. 12.01.2022 Kids are so incredibly kind. We are so proud of you Paddy and we thank your parents for allowing us to share your story and your act of kindness

12.01.2022 Elliot who is warrior Sophie’s brother has raised a whopping $1,670 with the support of his school community for our peadiatric stroke project. Better still, 20 teachers and 300 students enjoyed his home made cookies but only if they could repeat the F.A.S.T. message. Well done Elliot you are truly remarkable! Siblings of survivors are heroes in their own right, often assisting in the survivor siblings rehabilitation and recovery from stroke. They are attending appointments or missing a parent who is at the hospital yet they take it all in their stride. To then go on and raise awareness of the cause is completely and utterly inspiring and we are thankful for Sophie’s family sharing this story with us! Also who agrees these cookies look SO good!!!!!

12.01.2022 It’s Speech Pathology Week and where would we be without these incredible therapists who assist our children to thrive and recover from their stroke. We are so grateful for ours! In fact it’s my daughters favourite therapy! Shout out to yours in the comments section, let’s show some recognition for all of their dedication and hard work
