25.01.2022 This is a pregnant mare we have here. She has 42 days until her due date. What needs to be done to prepare for foaling at this stage of pregnancy? When should you start foal watch?

23.01.2022 Mumma mia how these beautiful kittens have grown. It had been in the cold wee hours of the morning when we were lucky enough to assist them into the world after mum ran into difficulty.

23.01.2022 We met Coco yesterday who came to us with a skin irritation. While she was here we played guinea pigs happy sounds to her which she showed her appreciation for by mimicking. She was just sooo cute.

23.01.2022 PREVENTATIVE CARE so your dog does not need expensive dental work. We encourage dog owners to look after their dogs teeth and this starts when they are pups. By feeding bones you can greatly reduce the need to have your dogs teeth cleaned by a veterinarian. If you have an older dog, please start now. So how can you assist your dog with good dental hygiene. Ideally, your dog should spend about 30 minutes, 2 or 3 times a week, working on bones for a noticeable improvement in dental health. While the action of scraping their teeth against the actual bone does help with teeth cleaning, the act of pulling bits of meat, gristle, and cartilage off the bone is more important. DO NOT feed cooked bones and bones need to be raw a large enough not to swallow.

16.01.2022 Hello little one, we met you first when you were just a little tacker showing up on the ultrasound machine. We have a very proud client whose ewe produced this spectacular lamb early this morning.

15.01.2022 Aurora is a buckskin warmblood filly out of Belle Jadore x Daquiri GF helping Dr John clean yards this morning.

15.01.2022 This is a beautiful filly which was bred by us using chilled semen from Daquiri GF. She is a very correct foal and very quiet and friendly which is an example of Daquiri's lovely temperament. Video to follow.

14.01.2022 On our rounds we see Stinging Nettle growing in our clients paddocks. We embrace this nutritious plant and make tea from this. This is Dr John enjoying a quick break between clients this morning sipping on his Stinging Nettle and Orange Tea which was brewed with love by Practice Manager, nurse, anxious dog tamer, stallion handler, sheep wrangler and wife extraordinare Terri.

14.01.2022 Equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) Is a characteristic collection of clinical signs and clinicopathologic changes in equines that places them at high risk for developing laminitis. Insulin dysregulation is the key feature of the syndrome. It is found in both horses and ponies and has also been recognized in donkeys. Affected animals typically are obese, with increased condition score overall and increased regional adiposity in the neck and tailhead regions. A feeding muzzle can assist with assistance or prevention. We thank our models for strutting the paddock and demonstrating how these work.

13.01.2022 Mare scans as the sunsets with a beautiful display of purple sky. This beautiful warmblood mare owned by Tara Performance Horses that is being bred to frozen semen.

13.01.2022 We have assisted with a lot of calvings, but this would have been a very special one. If you think youre tired, this mum has just birthed four heifer calves! The farmers on this New Zealand property said although she was big during pregnancy, they werent expecting quads! Shes doing well after a warm night in the barn, a starter drench and plenty of feed. All four calves have been given colostrum and are going alright too.

12.01.2022 Sometimes when we reschedule for a later time on routine work it is because little guys like this and their mums are having a very difficult birth. This little one was in trouble, both bub and mum would have been lost today without our intervention.

12.01.2022 Embryo transfer. We often get calls asking us if we run a heard of recipient mares. The answer to this is no we don't. These 2 mares belong to Terri, one is her riding mare and the other is her recipient mare who will produce her new foal. She only needs one (we do not support Veterinary practices who hold herds and dog horses). Reproduction Specialist Dr John Chopin has the experience to set this up and time this.

07.01.2022 This big black and beautiful stallion has arrived and will be here for collections. Toi is a young up coming stallion. He is Olympic bred and does not disappoint.

07.01.2022 Pregnant mares need good nutrition and regular pregnancy check ups which include weigh ins to ensure they are at their ideal weight ready to foal out healthy foals. This mare weighed in this morning at 583kg, Dr John has recommended that he would like her near 600kgs by foaling.

06.01.2022 With a busy breeding season about to commence we are finishing off a few fully enclosed mare and foal yards. The lights for this vicinity is in so we can monitor and maintain observations night and day.

06.01.2022 The big boys are arriving. Breeding season is now well underway after a busy weekend and the sensational Reach for the Roan stepping straight from the show ring today and then became quite the star this afternoon demonstrating he was the man.

Over the next few months we are going to step through the processes and provide updates on what we do. Stage 1 - We are ready to plan a litter. We breed dogs that we want to own. We choose dogs that are fit to breed and this is done with numerous tests and examinations. Some of these tests involve assessments of temperament, overall health and condition, and screening for genetic and orthopaedic diseases.
