25.01.2022 Most people have gone through multiple moments throughout our lives of being motivated to achieve some form of health goal. We buy a gym membership and don’t use it as planned, make a commitment to go for a walk/run 3 times a week, or make a new year’s resolution of losing a few KG’s, but never quit get around to doing it. So, what is it that makes some people able to fulfill these health goals? What makes these people different? Think back to a time when you were able to f...ulfill a goal. It could be health related, business, personal, whatever. What was it that allowed you, or motivated you to complete what you set out to do? There are probably many things that combine to create this ability or inhibit it, but what many people lack, or forget about, is their, PURPOSE. People that have a true life purpose, the things that get them out of bed on a cold morning, that inspire them to be ‘better’ and keep them pushing when life gets in the way and keep their motivation and behaviors consistent, tend to have a greater ability to achieve their goals, especially when it comes to health. We focus so much on what we are doing or need/should do (eating better, exercising etc), and we forget about to the things in the background that are the key ingredients to creating new behaviors (or breaking the ones holding us back) that allow us to achieve the end goal, (if we have set one). Our PURPOSE and our WHY. Next time you set out to achieve something, let’s make it, a health related something. Think about these 2 things. Set, YOUR PURPOSE and YOUR WHY, you want to achieve this, health related something. #health #wellbeing #goals #weighloss #behaviors #familyhealth #challenge #nutrition

18.01.2022 Unhealthy or overweight children are more likely to become unhealthy or overweight adults. The number of overweight children in Australia has doubled in recent years, with a quarter of children considered overweight or obese. There is a huge political and policy focus on how best to tackle the childhood obesity (as well as adult) epidemic and some states are mitigating targeted areas of influence such as banning (or in the process of) the advertising of junk foods in public p...laces (ACT and QLD). Food manufacturing companies use very cunning marketing tactics that tap into the psychology of the developing mind to create interest and appeal for them to then pester their parents to buy certain junk food products. If you are a parent, you will understand the impact of ‘pester power’. But what about one of the most powerful influencing mediums in the modern world, social media. What are governments doing to enforce better control of social media platforms and companies, where children have 24/7 access, of junk food advertising and promotion? How can we as parents have more control over what our kids eat, and how can marketing techniques have reduced influence on our kids? #lifestylemedicine #healthandwellbeing #wellness #parenting #publichealth #healthpromotion #childrenshealth

17.01.2022 One of the key domains in the Cardea 'circle of lifestyle' is rejuvenation. For me, yoga is one my my rejuvenation strategies. The health benifits of relaxation in reducing health risk factors and injury risk, social connection and improving performance are integral. 16.01.2022 Placing true value on your health is key to habit formation (or breaking the ones not serving you). We plan holidays, make business plans, we even make shopping lists. But when it comes to our health we seem to just act. (Join a gym, empty the fridge or start a new diet craze). Yet we seem to fail to really understand why we are doing it, and set a plan. Linking your health goals and desires to the things you value most can help you stick to the plan (or make one). What do you value most in your life, and what is your purpose and motivation? #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #lifestyle #purpose #goals #wellbeing #fitness #weightlossjourney #healthcoaching #lifestylemedicine #nutrition #healthyhabbits #coach #socialdeterminantsofhealth #exercise #exerciseismedicine #habits #psychology #PositivePsychology

15.01.2022 Making or breaking a habit can seem tough, somtimes impossible. Our cravings and behaviours are so ingrained, our brain becomes sensitized to the things we desire and crave. Neuroplasticity issimply our brains ability to adapt and change to the things we pereive we cannot do without (our cravings). Our behaviours and habits can literally rewire our brains (neural pathways). But these can be altered with little (ok alot) of commitment, purpose, accountability, planning, support and repetition. #psychology #healthylifestyle #healthcoaching #lifestylemedicine #behavioralhealth #habits #dailyhabits #wellbeing #parents #healthyfood #mentalhealth #fitness #coachinglife #coaching #behavior #nutrition #healthyeating #socialdeterminantsofhealth #publichealth

14.01.2022 Is obesity generational? Y N Ever wondered how much influence your health and wellbeing habits as a parent may be having on your children? Overweight or obese children are significantly more likely to carry this into adulthood. There is also a good chance that if parents have weight challenges, their children will as well. Parents' lifestyle habits (exercise, eating, smoking etc) will be seen by their children. What they observe becomes their normal and their education. ... Mums and dads, you can change this. We as parents have a responsibilty. Don't let our children down. Break the generational cycle. #obesity #childhealth #lifestylemedicine #lifestyle #healthylifestyle #healthcoaching #health #habits #behavioralhealth #parents #rolemodel #weightloss #fitness #exercise #wellbeing #running #positivepsychology #nutrition #noosaheads #sunshinecoast #qld #activelifestyle See more

12.01.2022 My job as a #health and #lifestyle professional is to provide #evidencebased and #wellbeing information to my clients, help them improve #selfefficacy and #empower them to make their own decisions to put into sustainable action. But I always encourage them to be inquisitive about what they read, see, watch, or are told about health and wellbeing. There is alot of health #pseudoscience out there dressed up as science and it's tough to tell the difference. There are multiple ...new fad #diets that suggest life changing results in minimal weeks, new 'super foods' with fancy Amazonian names claiming to cure your #illness or home gym equiment promising a wash board stomach with minimal effort. There are no easy or fast ways to achieve your ideal health and wellbeing desires. It can get confusing and we fall into the patern of continuously repeating the same #behaviours that are not serving us well, all becuase we are fed information that isn't accurate. So I encourage you: ask questions and do your own research. This is your health and your life. Take control and trust your own decisions. #lifestylemedicine #socialdeterminantsofhealth #habits #fitness #exercise #happy #motivation #healthcoaching #weightlossjourney #weightlossmotivation #weightloss #qld See more

10.01.2022 Whatever you repeat gets stronger, whatever you don't repeat gets weaker. If you ruminate on an urge it will likely grow. Urges rarly last more than 30mins if we dont feed them. Changing our habitual behaviours can be challenging. Urge surfing is a technique that can be used to avoid acting on any behaviour that you are trying to reduce or stop. #healthcoaching #motivationalinterviewing #coachinglife #habbits #positivepsychology #healthylifestyle #lifestylemedicine #lifestyle #wellbeing #noosa #sunshinecoast #queensland #family #parents #kidshealth #weightloss #psychology #mentalhealth #sunshinebeach #coolumbeach #running #noosaheads

05.01.2022 Working with Paralympic athletes in a developing nation is a humbling experience and a huge challenge. Mindset and high performance have very different meanings and take a very different approach. Values, goals and purpose vary alot to what we may perceive here in Australia. Some of these athletes struggle to get food on the table, battle the stigma of a disability, have limited access to equipment (that isn't rusty) yet still compete and train at the highest level. Something... to be said about our own perception of what we have and what we worry about. What will you do this week to overcome the fears and barriers that may be holding you back from achieving your desired health and lifestyle goals? #olympics #healthylifestyle #healthyfood #sport #psychology #highperformancehabits #disabilityawareness #mindset #strength #strengthandconditioning See more

02.01.2022 The perfect dad's day destruction. 25 mins of a 220 stair circuit. View from the top not too bad either. If you are looking for a great way to improve your aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance, burn a bunch of calories and test your mindest, find any form of incline or stairs and run/walk it for 20-30 mins, or until you begin questioning your sanitiy. NB. 01.01.2022 Dry July day 1 complete. For a large number of Australians, this month could not come at a better time. COVID-19 and the social, physical and psychological challenges that this has produced, has also produced some alarming rates of alcohol consumption. Our normality has shifted, as have our abilities to cope with the added stresses and pressures in our lives. Our gyms shut down and our social connections limited, meaning that our usual coping mechanisms have had to adjust.... So what could this mean for us moving forward into a new normal post COVID-19? Could this be the start of substance dependency at a higher rate than ever before? #lifestylemedicine #nutrition #health #wellbeing #stress #substanceabuse #diseaseprevention #alcohol #publichealth #healthpromotion
