20.01.2022 Today is the start of NAIDOC Week, a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week 2020 in...vites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country - a history that dates back thousands of generations. We pay respect to and acknowledge the traditional owners of lutruwita (Tasmania), the palawa/pakana people. We acknowledge the North-West Nation, including eight clans, Tommeginer, Parperloihener, Pennemukeer, Pendowte, Peerapper, Manegin, Tarkinener and the Peternidic; the South-West Nation, including four clans, Mimegin, Lowreenne, Ninene and Needwonnee; and two clans of the North Nation, Noeteeler and Plairhekehillerplue, as the traditional owners of the lands within the Cradle Coast region. We recognise and celebrate the Tasmanian Aboriginal peoples’ survival and continued connection with the land, spanning more than 40,000 years. This is a very important part of our region’s story. #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC2020

09.01.2022 When my mate told me he was scheduled in for a kidney transplant I wanted to help but had no idea where to start. He had a family who were already providing d...ay to day support and I wasn’t sure where I could fit in to that network. Then it dawned on me. When we were younger, we were obsessed with Harrison Ford. I sent him a text to let him know that when he was back home and recovering, I’d come over and we’d have an Indiana Jones movie marathon. It was only a small thing - but it was a way for me to let him know I was there and that I cared. Often, it’s the little things that can make a big difference. Thinking outside of the box when you want to support someone can have a lasting impact. Spending quality time with a friend who is struggling is a great way to help them heal, and while it may be tricky in these current times, there are still ways you can be there. If you have a story to share about helping a friend in need, we would love to hear from you. We want people to realise that offering help doesn’t always mean solving the problem. It’s about being there. Join the movement. Share with your friends, comment below or send us a message. Kidney Health Australia

07.01.2022 Ulverstone Primary School are in this great little update "They (students) are starting to connect more with each other and open up around their hurts, sadness and losses in life. It has been encouraging to see them connect the concept of sadness and loss, with growth and courage. A new project for The GroundSwell Project this year is the Schools Microgrant project. This project aims to support schools who have an idea for a creative initiative that supports students to learn more about grief and loss. Read an update on the project below and if you'd like information about the 2021 round, contact us here: https://www.thegroundswellproject.com/contact-us

06.01.2022 Talking about death and dying is difficult. It’s difficult for us as health professionals because it seems wrong for people to die the way our patients in Cent...ral Australia die, so it feels like we should try harder to get them more time. In this special blog, Dr Christine Sanderson talks about the #PalliativeCare needs of Aboriginal people in Central Australia, and providing quality, person-centred & culturally safe care http://bit.ly/CSBlogNovC #PartofLife #EndofLifeCare #NAIDOC2020

06.01.2022 Via Palliative Care Nurses Australia. from Dr Julian Abel - recorded at the end of January. Why compassion matters. Compassion is limitless. Let’s let it flourish! #TheCompassionProject. https://www.ted.com/t/dr_julian_abel_why_compassion_matters
