25.01.2022 Carers Victoria and Moonee Valley City Council invite carers residing in Moonee Valley to come on a morning walk along the Maribyrnong River on Tuesday 15 December at 9.15am. This is a chance to stretch your legs, meet new people and find out more about local support and services. 25.01.2022 Next week, Sheena Watt will break the glass ceiling and make history by becoming Labor's first female Aboriginal MP in the Victorian Parliament. When Sheena was aged 12, she stepped up to help their mother look after their father, who had been diagnosed with a disability and needed full-time care. "It shaped me very much. It's something that's really driven me the last little while and I've been thinking about the huge burden on carers during COVIDfor me representation matters and it's not just about cultural diversity, but diversity of experience. I've been a carer, had some adversity, hardship and disadvantage in my life. Having members of Parliament who have had that lived experience is very important." 21.01.2022 The 2020-2021 Victorian State Budget was revealed yesterday. Carers Victoria welcomes initiatives which could benefit carers, including: An investment of $4.6 million to support unpaid carers to pursue education and employment opportunities; Victorians on a waiting list to access residential Alcohol and Other Drug(AOD) services or who disengaged from treatment during the pandemic will receive more support with $25.62 million to employ new specialist alcohol and other drug... workers; An increase in the number of available mental health nurse graduate positions across Victoria with $4.3 million in funding so we have more workers on the ground caring for Victorians; and Additional positions for child and youth psychiatry registrars, and funding for new part-time positions and cadetships for people with a lived experience of mental health. 16.01.2022 We are joined today by Housing Project Co-ordinators, Julia and Penny, from Summer Foundation today. Their role is to increase awareness of and access to housing options for people with a disability who have complex needs. This includes providing a means for people with a disability to find appropriate long-term housing.... And actively supporting people with a disability and their care team to engage with the application process in relation to supported disability accommodation. They also deliver engagement strategies including facilitation of workshops/upskilling and community promotion specific to particular SDA builds and promotion of their Housing Hub website.

01.01.2022 The University of Sydney is conducting research into people from Chinese backgrounds living in Australia with lived experience of mental distress. The research will provide social workers and other mental health professionals with a better understanding of what Chinese people face when they have mental health issues, and what kinds of help they want to receive to improve their mental wellbeing in Australia.
