25.01.2022 "What a joy it is to come to work each day! To be able to teach and care for children in the Early Years is a privilege. I love that teaching little ones is more than just following a curriculum - it's helping young children to discover and wonder about this world that we live, it's helping them to take chances and to think about others and to encourage them to use the gifts and talents that they have been given. I love that I get to work with such great children and their... families and to be part of a wonderful community here at Carey." - Tara Masters, Pre-Primary Teacher #WhyIChooseCarey #CareyStaff
25.01.2022 Today we acknowledged Remembrance Day across our campuses. Our students were reminded about the significance of this day and why it’s observed, followed by a recitation of ‘The Ode’ of Remembrance, playing of ‘The Last Post’ and one minutes silence. We will remember them. Lest we forget. #RemembranceDay

24.01.2022 We have entered the Nyoongar season of Djilba. Djilba runs through August and September and is the start of flowers blooming throughout the South West. Djilba is the Season of Conception and is a period of transition as we move from the colder months into warmer weather. Our Carey Harrisdale Secondary Houses are named after the Nyoongar seasons Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. Students start each day in their Homeroom and compete with their Homeroom in w...eekly House competitions before lunch on Wednesdays. House competitions range from academic challenges to cultural and sporting activities. The integration of our Pastoral Care and House system empowers students to find their place of belonging and fosters a competitive spirit underpinned by a communal ethos within the College. As this season continues and the weather continues to warm up, flowers on Grass Trees will bloom in preparation for the next season Kambarang. #CareyBaptistCollege #ACareyEducation

20.01.2022 Our Carey Harrisdale Certificate II Dance students were recently involved in an Industry Day in our brand new Dance Studio. The Year 11 and 12 students participated in jazz and contemporary workshops, where they had the opportunity to work with the renowned Western Australian award winner and international scholarship recipient, Scott Elstermann. The students were challenged physically and creatively as they learnt new skills and techniques in the dance industry. The students... also participated in a Q&A session with Scott and Carey Harrisdale Head of Arts, Mrs Sharlene Cuellar, where they asked questions about the dance industry, education pathways, training and performance opportunities. Students also looked at how dance and media have influenced popular culture and independent dance. Thank you to Ausdance Victoria for allowing this exciting opportunity to be made available to our students. Thank you also to Scott Elstermann for his ongoing dedication to our Dance students! #ACareyEducation #CareyBaptistCollege
20.01.2022 "Teaching is so much more than just subjects; It is about helping young people grow in strength of character. I feel extremely privileged to play even a small part in that journey one of learning to interact positively with others, to share, communicate, try new things, be generous, confident, selfless, inclusive, kind and have fun too! It is wonderful to do that in a community like Carey, where we share that common goal." 17.01.2022 Our Year 12 Graduation Night on 28 October was a wonderful send off to our Graduating Class of 2020! In his address, Secondary Principal Mr Brenden Gifford honoured the Year 12’s in what has been a remarkable year globally. As I look back over the year I am reminded that our aptly chosen theme for 2020 was ‘Courage’. At Carey, we talk about courage as ‘the willingness to act well in the face of uncertainty and fear’. This definition is so appropriate for 2020. Your gradu...ating year has been an exceptional experience for everyone, and you have handled this challenge well. Global challenges will come and go, but your values, your character and your hope remain the most important and defining ingredients in your story. Make your story a courageous one! On behalf of all of us, know that you are respected and loved, and will always be welcome back as graduates and as friends. Our best wishes to the Graduates of 2020!
17.01.2022 "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." May 2021 be filled with joy for you and your families!

Our students often comment that this is the most valuable experience in Year 10 STEM and many are inspired to grow their own plants and vegetables at home as a result!

15.01.2022 During Week 3, our Forrestdale Year 5 students had a three-day trip to Kalgoorlie which was an incredibly fun, rewarding and educational experience for all involved. Some of the stops included visiting the Museum of the Goldfields which showcased the rich history of the city’s mining heritage as well as Hannans North Tourist Mine where students tried panning for gold. There was also a trip to the Super Pit Lookout which left the students in awe as they admired the sheer d...epth and size of the working mine site. Everyone agreed that although Kalgoorlie was a little more than a short drive away, it was well worth the visit! This camp was a lovely getaway before the final home-stretch of term.

10.01.2022 Our Harrisdale Design and Technology Department recently hosted the State CO2 Dragster Competition. This was an all-day event, with students from Year 9 busy scrutineering cars and racing them at high speeds down a track. So what are CO2 Cars? ... CO2 dragsters are miniature racing cars that students design, build, test, modify and eventually race. Propelled by CO2, two cars are raced at once down a 20m track and a timer records the speed for each lane. As they follow the design and build process, students learn about aerodynamics and ways to make their dragsters go faster. There were 130 entrants from around the state competing for the top prize in a variety of categories. Congratulations to Carey Year 9 student Tia Lawrence-Jones for winning overall in the highly competitive composite category. She scored the highest points for design and race time ensuring she was the clear winner overall. "Having spent all of the time making the cars for the race it was amazing to see all of them going down the track", Tia said. Thomas Roberts also placed 4th overall in the state. Mr Simon Griffiths won the overall first place in the teachers division with a blistering race time of 0.77 seconds over the 20m track. A huge thank you to the Year 9 Engineering students that volunteered their day to ensure the smooth running of the event. You represented our College exceptionally well.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to 2020 Carey Graduate Matthew Connan, for coming third place in the U19 AusCycling National Time Trial Championships last week! Matthew said the National Time Trial Championships had been his target race since the 2020 event when he placed 5th in his first year racing as an U19. "I trained hard for Nationals all through Year 12, working through exams, injuries and illness - regularly over 15 hours of cycling per week. My lead into Nationals was a little... shaky with a 6 week period of injury, eventually ending with a trip to the radiologist for an MRI. Setting me behind my scheduled preparation, I had a lot of work to do in a short period of time. After 8 weeks of really high intensity training, I had built my fitness to a level I was happy with. During the week of the event, I felt strong and I was ready to attack the National Time Trial with everything I had. I was privileged enough to have finished the event in 3rd place, achieving my first (and hopefully not last!) national podium. I've been incredibly blessed to have the support of so many people including my family, friends, school and sponsors, particularly through the last 12 months. Now I look forward to racing nationally throughout 2021 and Nationals in 2022 as I step up into the U23 category. Of course, I'll have to wait to leave quarantine for that!" Fantastic achievement Matthew, we look forward to following your journey ahead!
06.01.2022 "My joy in life is working with people and seeing them become part of a healthy community and strong social fabric, enabling them to flourish, be supported by and connected to something larger than themselves. I look forward to seeing what we will accomplish together over the coming years." - Johno Montgomery, Manager at Forrest Coffee (Timb...er) #WhyIChooseCarey #CareyStaff

02.01.2022 Despite the unexpected week for Perth and the South-West, it's Bunuru! Bunuru is the Nyoongar season that runs through February and March and is the hottest time of the year with very little rain. The flowering white gums and the arrival of salmon marks the beginning of Bunuru. Our Carey Harrisdale Secondary Houses are named after the six Nyoongar seasons - Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. Students start each day in their Homeroom and compete with ...their Homeroom in weekly House competitions before lunch on Wednesdays. House competitions range from academic challenges to cultural and sporting activities. The integration of our Pastoral Care and House system empowers students to find their place of belonging and fosters a competitive spirit underpinned by a communal ethos within the College. As this season continues and the weather starts to cool down, red flowering gums will start to bloom in preparation for the next season Djeran.
