23.01.2022 We have had a great couple of weeks with a wonderful Vet from Argentina. Tere has been an absolute delight to work with and we wish her all the best in her career.
22.01.2022 Today some of our recipient mares were enjoying a new makeshift lake in their paddock. All the horses are certainly liking the rain that we have received lately.
22.01.2022 Carmyle has welcomed client horses and the paddocks are starting to fill up. We have been scanning 90 recipient mares every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to see whether they are cycling. 2 lovely client mares have already been flushed and 4 mares have been bred. The collection of stallions has started, with another 2 stallions coming tomorrow to be collected. Even with Covid-19 we have been able to ship chilled semen interstate.
22.01.2022 Our phone lines and internet have been down all day today. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused our clients.
22.01.2022 We are approved Veterinarians to use the Holsteiner Verband semen. We thought some of our clients might like to see what we have access to in the 2020/2021 breeding season. We are sharing information on the impressive stallion CATCH. If you would like any further details on this stallion, please contact Sophia Gostelow. Email address: [email protected]
21.01.2022 A great four days of competition!
20.01.2022 Happy Vet Nurse day to our Carmyle crew! We love having Sam, Tonni and Catrin working with us! We hope everyone is getting a nice shower of rain.
18.01.2022 Last week we moved one of our recipient groups. We brought the mares into the yards to check over them all, before being moved to another paddock. It is great to see all of the mares looking fit and healthy for the upcoming season.
17.01.2022 Breeding season has officially started - how scary! Some recipients have come in from the back country to go onto pasture. We now have our first group of 40 mares that are being being prepared for the season. If you have any enquires about breeding or what you need to do in the lead up to bringing a mare to Carmyle - please contact us on 0407564623.
17.01.2022 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our clients! We hope you have had the opportunity to take a break with family and friends. This mare owned by one of our clients has found a way to keep cool in the heat.
16.01.2022 We always feel very privileged to have all of our client horses stay with us. At the moment we have the lovely Dianella (Shire horse) staying with us. She is not only beautiful to look at, but she has an amazing temperament and ground manners. We have already wasted a lot of time staring at her and cuddling her. Dianella is getting bred with frozen semen from another Shire horse.

16.01.2022 We would like to introduce the latest stallion to arrive at Carmyle Veterinary Services - Archdale Convoy!
16.01.2022 We are sharing something that we wrote a few years ago, and it is still relevant! While winter may be a down time for breeding there is still plenty to do in preparation for next season! For many clients there is the dilemma of choosing the stallion that will make the best match with his or her mare. Here are a few points to consider: If you have an older mare or one that has been difficult to breed in the past, try a nice young stallion that offers fresh or cool shipped seme...n. This should increase your chances as younger stallions generally have more active and more potent semen samples. Frozen semen can be risky for problem mares as the semen is generally not as active as it has been through the freezing/thawing process. It may end up taking several cycles for your older mare to conceive, therefore becoming expensive. And why AI rather than live cover? With AI we can control the amount of semen that we put in, we can also control where we place the semen in the mare's tract, and we can use semen extender that has a bit of antibiotic. We can also look at the semen sample under a microscope to make sure it looks motile. AI also reduces risk of injury to the mare during live cover. Live cover can be the best option for select mares and stallions, please ring to discuss if you have a query. If you have a young or very fertile mare, and you choose to use frozen semen, it is best to organise in advance. Frozen semen can be shipped to our clinic and stored BEFORE your mare arrives, in case you bring her to us and she is ready to breed! If you were wanting to breed your mare early in the season, it is ideal to start rugging and feeding your mare in late July or August and take note of her cycles if she begins cycling. We generally do not start accepting mares until September, and our recipient herd is not usually ready for embryo transfers until October. If you have any questions please contact us on 0407 564 623, or message us. Have fun choosing a stallion - after all, nobody knows the perfect combination of mare and stallion or that's what we would all be breeding, right? See more
15.01.2022 Our Carmyle caps are certainly starting to appear everywhere. They went all the way to Homebush with these amazing athletes to compete at State Athletics in the Senior Boys Relay. We think they look brilliant in them and we love seeing country kids in the city competing!
15.01.2022 Vince and Sally Bonello have a very cute foal on their hands. We did the breeding to produce this beautiful foal last year.
12.01.2022 We hope all of our clients have managed to get under a storm today and if not - hopefully over the next couple of days. The horses were very grateful and happy to be playing in mud today.
11.01.2022 We would like to say a massive thank you to all of our clients, both old and new. Our breeding season has officially come to an end for the 2019/2020 season. We bred our last mare 16 days ago and our last 15 day scan took place yesterday. Our season was certainly a memorable one, starting in drought and ending with plenty of amazing rain. We look forward to completing general maintenance around the place in preparation for the 2020/2021 season. The photo below is of the lovely Recycled Genetics (owned by Debbie Keogh) being collected.
11.01.2022 The Symons family had the safe arrival of their strong foal last week. This was an AI foal that we bred last season. We love getting updates of foals from our clients.

10.01.2022 Our horse paddocks are starting to respond to the pastures that were planted a couple of weeks ago. We look forward to having our clients horses in them for the 2019/2020 season.
10.01.2022 We are using this quiet time to tidy up paddocks around the place and getting prepared for the upcoming season. We have been lucky enough to get some very cute pups visit over the last few weeks for microchipping and vaccinations. There have been recips returned, lame horses looked at, teeth done and colts being cut.

07.01.2022 We are really starting to get back into the swing of things for the 2019/2020 breeding season, with a busy Monday! Some of our recipient mares came in to be scanned today, to see where they are up to in their cycles. Stallions have started to be collected and we had our first flush of the season today.
