23.01.2022 Western Brown Snake ( Pseudonaja aspidorhyncha, mengdeni, nuchalis) Variations: Gwardar, Collared Brown Snake. Also more recently Strap-snouted Brown Snake (for P. aspidorhyncha), and Northern Brown Snake (for P. nuchalis). This Venomous elapid inhabits much of WA and there are also many different genus variations to this species. A very fast moving and defensive snake when it has to be.... Highly Venomous and should not be handled or provoked. Seek immediate medical attention if bitten. Photo Credit Brian Bush. See more

19.01.2022 Mulga Snake (Pseudechis australis) In the wild, Mulga Snakes feed on a wide variety of vertebrate prey, including frogs, reptiles, reptile eggs, bird eggs, birds and mammals. The species also occasionally eats invertebrates. When threatened, the Mulga Snake inflates its body and holds its head and flattened neck in a wide curve parallel to the ground. It will throw its head and neck from side to side, hissing loudly as it does. If pressed further it will lash out wildly in an... attempt to bite. Mulga Snakes bite savagely and may hang on and chew as they inject their venom. The venom is highly toxic and can be expressed in enormous quantities. Its effects are mainly haemolytic (breaks down blood cells), cytotoxic (disrupts cells), myotoxic (affects muscle), and also mildly neurotoxic (affects nerve cells). Anyone suspected of being bitten should seek immediate medical attention. Should antivenom be required it is important to note that despite the alternative common name of King Brown Snake, the Mulga Snake is in fact a member of the black snake genus Pseudechis, therefore Black Snake Antivenom will be necessary. The Mulga Snake is to be respected for its size and nature. One my favourite elapids.

18.01.2022 Call out today for Carnarvon Community College. A 1 metre unidentified Snake was seen entering a staff area. After an exhaustive and thorough search of every nook and cranny, there was only 2 places it could go. Under this vanity unit or in the plumbing of 4 toilets that are available. I really have 2 choices in this scenario. I rip apart that kickboard and hope I made the right choice to look there or considering school is now closed we could wait for it to move on overnig...ht. After a talk with staff still on duty it was decided to let it be and if it comes out to call us again so we aren't destroying school property and we can hopefully catch it if seen again. All staff will be sent a Memo of course warning it still could be there and be cautious if using the room. #CarnarvonSnakeCatcher See more

17.01.2022 Identifying Snakes. There are people that will make the mistake of trying to identify a snake when we see posts on facebook. The best thing to do is not too guess if you don`t know what the snake is. For all FAST Snake identification please use this group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/248679248906637/... This group has some of the best herpotologists in the country and also an educational awareness page. I know quite a few people who now have a newly found respect for this stunning but elusive animal because of this group. They never let you down for an ID.

17.01.2022 Late night call out for Tonkin crescent for a suspected Western Brown in a Bedroom. Yes Carnarvon Snake Catcher is a 24/7 service. Just because its nearly midnight and almost all of Carnarvon is asleep, our Snakes are out and about hunting for food at night. Just a reminder to keep all doors and windows without screens closed during summer months. ... Patch up any holes in walls or floors as even a 2-3 cm hole is enough space for a snake and also clear any household clutter or old furniture. This will decrease the amount of hiding spots for a Snake. Snakes do come inside if you give them the chance too. Be mindful folks. Just remember if you see a Snake please don't try to catch or kill the animal. Give us a call and have someone watch it from a safe distance if possible until we get there. 0477038738 #CarnarvonSnakeCatcher

16.01.2022 The Dugite (Pseudonaja affinis). Other similar species of brown snake that overlap the Dugite’s distribution include the Penisular Brown Snake Pseudonaja inframacula, the Western Brown Snake Pseudonaja nuchalis and the Eastern Brown Snake Pseudonaja textilis. The species occupies a wide variety of habitats including coastal dunes, heathlands, shrublands, woodlands and forests. It seems to cope well with heavily degraded habitats such as golf course, industrial parks and ope...n agricultural country; in fact, it is one of the few reptile species that has probably increased in numbers with the opening up of natural habitats and the introduction of the house mouse. Around the Perth area, the Dugite is one of the most common reptiles found near buildings. In areas of human habitation the snakes take temporary shelter under refuse such as concrete slabs, fibro sheets, roofing tin and the like, but in more natural surroundings they will shelter under rocks and in abandoned termite mounds, abandoned stick ant nests, and rabbit and rodent burrows. Dugites also use burrows during brumation periods. Photo credit Brian Bush. See more

14.01.2022 I often get asked how to keep Snakes out of your yard, putting things simply you can`t keep them out. What you can do is make your yard a less likely place a Snake wont hang around in or choose a part of your yard to live in. Here are some steps you can do to help this. *Clean up any woodpiles or sheet metal you may have lying around. Snakes love these sheltered areas during the hotter or colder months, especially for hunting.... * Chicken coups, Bird Aviary's, Rabbit Hutches, Guinea pigs are all a magnet for Snakes as mice come in for the seed or scraps at night, therefore providing snakes with an unlimited food source. *Water sources you could keep up off the ground will also help as snakes that choose to live somewhere have chosen this because they have water, food and shelter. Cleaning up your yard or work areas is the best thing you can do. The less shelter you have, the less likely you are to have a Snake decide to stay. 08.01.2022 Western Brown Snake (P.nuchalus). These photo's were from a ladies house who's Dog had unfortunately attacked the Snake last night. I don't like using Dead Snakes as main photos but for Educational purposes we will. This was a beautiful animal and very healthy and most likely wanted nothing more than to go about it's business.... Snakes don't go out to deliberately chase you down to kill you or your pets but your Dog's & Cats will for a Snake. I can't stress enough the importance of K9 Snake Avoidance Training for your Dog's. This Dog was in the 2% of lucky Dogs that survive a Snake bite, most don't survive. Cats are the biggest killer of our wildlife so please keep your cats inside at night. #CarnarvonSnakeCatcher

08.01.2022 Hi everyone. I will be away until this Monday the 2nd November. For all Snake Relocations please contact the Shire Rangers on 0408942945.

06.01.2022 *This video comes with a Snake Feeding warning...........! I have had a few of our followers ask me for a Video of our Snakes eating so if you don't like Rats or Mice look away now...!!! Nearly all Pythons in captivity are offered warm blooded prey items for feeding purposes. They are not alive at the time of feeding and items have been humanely prepared for feeding purposes. Prey items are warmed for the snake then moved or jiggled to mimmick and induce hunting through sens...itive pits. Unlike other Python's, the Woma Python has it's pits under it's chin or lower mandible. Other Pythons have theirs along the sides of their heads. They also use their tongues to flick out and taste the air molecules. Snakes also are able to open their bottom jaw wider as there is no bone joining it together, allowing them to swallow prey items many times larger than their actual head size. #carnarvonsnakecatcher See more

02.01.2022 It's amazing the amount of Reptiles that are found on the Black Market. Please do not buy reptiles of any kind illegally. Invasive species such as this Slider turtle destroy habitat and fauna in Australia It's very easy in most states of Australia to obtain a Reptile licence for a Pet. #CarnarvonSnakeCatcher

01.01.2022 A very young Western Stimson's Python (Antaresia stimsoni) - Harmless and Non Venomous, got trapped behind an air-conditioning unit in a Carnarvon bedroom most likely last night. A gorgeous young animal that somehow made its way inside the ladies room and up onto the air-conditioning. Just a reminder to keep all doors and windows without screens fitted closed as much as possible during summer months. Regardless of what some might think, Snakes do and will come into your home if given the chance. #CarnarvonSnakeCatcher
