24.01.2022 We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of those who tragically lost their lives today. This is an absolute tragedy in what has already been a devastating bushfire season.

24.01.2022 So much information being posted on social media about Coronavirus we have limited our posts on it. Sharing this one as it’s clear and informative and outlines similar actions our state/country is doing to control the situation.

23.01.2022 Welcome to Open Day 2020! Normally, we would launch our Open Day with the very special kids at Westmead Children Hospital Burns Unit. We were unable to do that ...this year, but we did take them on a virtual tour through our busiest fire station Fire and Rescue NSW Station 001 City of Sydney which you can watch in the video below. We'd love to share some good wishes with the kids, so leave a comment below and we will pass it on! Open Day has always been our most popular day on the calendar and for good reason. By opening our station doors every year and inviting you in, it gives us a chance to chat about who we are and what we do here at Fire and Rescue NSW. This year we’ve had to rethink the traditional and do things a little differently so while we couldn’t open the station doors to you, we are doing the next best thing and bringing the station to you! So, thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you and speak with you throughout the next week! #FRNSWOpenDay2020 #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire

19.01.2022 Hi all. Guessing competition time. Two early calls this morning and when I went to the station at lunch time noticed the truck had a flat tyre. The culprit not the usual nail or screw. Comment a guess, what do you think caused it or follow the post. Rules apply. ... 1) You must have a working smoke alarm recently checked and battery replaced in the last 12 months. 2) You must have a recent escape plan everyone in your house knows. 3) No spoilers from the station or those who have been told. Let’s see if we can work it out. Answer in a day or two.

17.01.2022 Regrettably, we have probably been spending a bit too much time around supermarkets of late. It’s sad to see some of the empty shelves, which ultimately means ...many people including our vulnerable community are missing out. It’s disappointing to see self interest dominate our community on such a grand scale. I took a patrol around Wallsend today including the shopping centre. No, I wasn’t just checking the toilet paper aisle, I was walking around so our shoppers didn’t feel uneasy about going about their daily lives. Yes, we have other jobs we can be doing but it’s important to make sure we continue to engage with retailers and customers as we move through these challenging times. I managed to catch up with Matt who is the Manager of Coles. It was disappointing to hear panic buying is still an issue but it was also pleasing to hear there has been no major issues (in terms of violence) as a result of the panic. That gives me hope we will continue to come together as we move forward. I appreciate that when we feel threatened and feel unsafe, our instinct is to batten down the hatches. However, that’s a game that guarantees there will be winners and losers. If we can find a way to see beyond ourselves we might just find a way through this together. 16.01.2022 *** A message from the Deputy Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell *** A huge thank you to all our staff for a massive effort during this weekends wild weather. On Sund...ay we responded to more than 5000 incidents, making it our busiest day on record ever. To put this into perspective this is double some of our busiest bushfire days this season. We took more than 16,000 triple zero calls over the weekend, attended more than 200 fires, more than 100 rescues, almost 400 storm related incidents and over 60 HAZMAT incidents. This was an incredible effort by all our staff on the ground, in our communications centres and all other support staff. #PreparedForAnything #MoreThanFire #Rescue #HAZMAT

09.01.2022 Did you know ...... That there are primarily two fire services within the state of NSW. They are :- Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service... Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) :- 6800 paid professional firefighters, 465 administrative staff and 5700 community fire units (volunteers) responsible for firefighting, rescue and Hazmat services in the major cities, metropolitan areas and towns across NSW Commissioner (FRNSW) Paul Baxter QSO NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) :- 72491 volunteer members and 911 paid staff being the primary agency for responding to bushfires within the state of NSW The NSW Rural Fire Service is the worlds largest volunteer fire service, although this member figure includes inactive volunteer firefighters and all support staff. 01.01.2022 The leading cause of home fires is unattended cooking. Don't add to this statistic. Stay in the kitchen while cooking and turn off the stove before you leave. For more fire safety tips visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au/winter #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #HelpUsHelpYou
