25.01.2022 All snuggled in bed Reija came in to the clinic to get some x-rays of her heart Reija is suffering from Congestive Heart Disease, but is doing very well on her current heart medications. We did some x-rays of her heart to check its progress, and make sure the medication is doing it’s job to help support her heart. After her x-ray’s, she was prescribed with a dose of cuddles, pats, and TLC The good news is her heart medications are working well, and Reija is a very hap...py puppy Well done Reija!

21.01.2022 Check out those ears!! Miss Clara Belle came into the clinic for her annual vaccinations and health check! It is important to come in for a health check at least once a year, as the vet can pick up things that we can’t! In Clara Belle’s case, she has checked out healthy & happy, and will be seeing her in a years time for her booster vaccinations and health check (providing she stays out of trouble! ) Well done Clara Belle!
20.01.2022 We would like to wish a big and cheerful Happy Birthday to our amazing Vet Nurse Siena!!! We wish you all the best on your special day. We hope you enjoy this amazing day & get spoilt so much!
20.01.2022 Poor Hades is feeling a bit sleepy! This little man was in hospital for an unusual surgery. Hades had what we call a ‘Paraphimosis’ Surgery. In male dogs, sometimes their penis can get stuck out, and can’t get back in without medical assistance. This can be due to hormones, or an abnormal structure of the penis. With the ‘Paraphimosis’ surgery, it involves enlarging the opening of the prepuce, so the penis can’t get stuck anymore. So far Hades has responded well to the surge...ry, and is recovering beautifully! Well done Hades

12.01.2022 TICK SEASON As the weather starts warming up, we are seeing more and more parasites coming out of hibernation and attacking our pets! Fortunately for WA, we don’t have the nasty Paralysis Ticks, but we can still get the Bush Ticks and Brown Dog Ticks, and they can still cause quite a nasty amount of damage! Including:... Anaemia Infection Transmitting other diseases Prevention is easy! Our preferred products for Tick Prevention are Nexgard (monthly chew) or Frontline Plus (monthly spot on), which both also protect against Fleas, Mites and Mange. Please call us on 9206 1919 to discuss what would be the best Tick Treatment for your pet

10.01.2022 HOW TO AVOID HEATSTROKE THIS SUMMER Summer is definitely on the way with this hot 30 degree weather! However unfortunately we see lots of cases of Heatstroke during this time of the year Which can become deadly if not treated sooner. The signs of Heatstroke that you may see are:... - Excessive panting and drooling - Breathing difficulties - Sunken eyes (dehydration) - Lethargy - Bright red gums, or sometimes blue/purple gums - Vomitting/Diarrhoea - Collapse To avoid your pet from getting heatstroke this hot summer, here are a couple tips: 1) ALWAYS have fresh clean water available in the shade. 2) Make sure there is plenty of shade. 3) Don’t take your pets out for any exercise during the day (earlier in the morning or late afternoon/night is better when it has cooled down). 4) Dogs with squashed noses (brachycephalics) such as Pugs, French Bulldogs, Shih Tzus or Pekingese are more prone to heatstroke, so it is best to keep them inside with the air conditioner/fan running. 5) NEVER EVER leave your pet inside your car when the temperature outside is 18 degrees and above. If you suspect your pet may have heatstroke, please come down to the clinic straight away!! It can become quite serious if not treated sooner! Stay cool this summer everyone!
09.01.2022 Dr Peter is enjoying some cuddles from Valkyrie the Great Dane, she’s still a little bit sleepy after her anaesthetic, but we think she still enjoys some post surgery snuggles!

07.01.2022 Nawww gorgeous Stella the Aussie Bulldog loves coming to the vet! Stella suffers from Skin Allergies, but is thankfully kept under control with a new treatment called Cytopoint! Have you heard of Cytopoint? It is a relatively new treatment that isn’t actually a drug, but is called ‘biological therapy’, meaning there is no side effects! (Unlike the usual cortisone treatment, which can potentially cause gastrointestinal and hormonal problems if used too often). Cytopoint is m...ade up of engineered ‘antibodies’ similar to a dog’s antibodies (antibodies are what help defend our immune system from disease). These specifically engineered antibodies send signals to the brain to stop sending out itch signals, therefore reducing scratching and infection of your dogs skin, allowing it to heal! Stella has been on Cytopoint for a while now, she comes in for boosters every 4-5 months, and her skin has never been better! Plus she always loves a treat and cuddle from the Nurses when she comes in for her visit This is a new revolutionary product for dog’s with skin allergies! If your dog suffers from on going itching and scratching due to skin allergies, ask us about Cytopoint today!
05.01.2022 WE ARE BACK We have now resumed back to our usual trading hours after the Christmas and New Years Break We all look forward to treating the amazing (and adorable!) Pets of Edgewater in 2021
05.01.2022 We’re getting into the Christmas Spirit here at Caryn Vet, and Abby the Golden Retriever is helping us feel even more festive!! How cute is her little Christmas collar?
04.01.2022 How precious is this gorgeous girl!! Poor Ruby came into see us after her mum noticed she was off her food, panting a lot, and had quite a hard, sore tummy. We immediately ran blood testing to see what the problem was, and popped her on a IV drip for the day to support her body. Results revealed she had Pancreatitis! Pancreatitis is generally caused after eating high amounts of fatty food, which causes the Pancreas to become quite inflammed and painful. Ruby was given some pa...in relief, and stayed on Intravenous Fluid Therapy for the day to support her organs. After some fluids, meds, and TLC, Ruby was feeling like a whole new dog, and started eating again!! Ruby came in for her recheck with us this morning, and she was completely back to her normal, bouncy self. Well done for being so brave Ruby!

01.01.2022 GRASS SEED SEASON These nasty little things can cause more harm than you think! Generally, Grass Seed issues are found during spring and summer time. They can wedge their way into your pets skin, and travel deep into the body, they can get themselves into all sorts of places! ... The grass seed pictured below was found about 3-4cm deep into the chest muscle tissue of a Husky, which as you can imagine was very painful. Thankfully our little Husky is doing well on pain relief and antibiotics after the Grass Seed removal To avoid having any grass seed issues, here are some tips on what to do: 1. Avoid dry grassy areas when taking your dog for a walk/to the park (as these are where the grass seeds are!) 2. After a walk, check your dog/cat’s paws, fur, and ears for any grass seeds, or small red puncture wounds (as the grass seed may have already gone through the skin.) 3. If your dog or cat has a long, fluffy coat, brush them every day to brush out any grass seeds stuck in their coat. While grass seeds are quite small, they can cause big problems! If you do notice any limping, or have found small puncture wounds, please give us a call on 9206 1919!!
01.01.2022 Feeling like a Pirate with a Parrot on their shoulder, in this case it’s a Vet Nurse with a Kitten on her shoulder!! Hanna came in for her 2nd kitten vaccination, she is a very curious little cat! Have a great weekend everyone!
