23.01.2022 I have permission to share this - and you can certainly see why! Look at these two angels bonding and enjoying their pragmatic / social language /feelings homework together Siblings often enjoy sharing their speech homework - and it is a really nice way to practice new skills with a friend! 23.01.2022 A new plan to tweak the definition of autism could see thousands of Australians with significant support needs unable to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

22.01.2022 Specific praise! Today, instead of saying nice work/good job/well done/Youre so clever, etc... Why not try some specific praise to tell your child exactly what he/she did well?... Gee I love how you said CAR with your K sound! Wow you said SNAKE with your SN blend! I love how you looked at me when I was talking, it showed me you were listening! What a lovely B letter you wrote for the word BAT Wow, I love how you tried a little bit of broccoli today (before hiding it in the floorboards)

21.01.2022 Talk, talk, talk

20.01.2022 nice little reminders

19.01.2022 Nice little visual helper!

19.01.2022 Do you have a 4yr old? Are you concerned with his/her language? Most 4yr olds should: Understanding/Listening: Be able to follow 2-step unrelated instructions, eg: Get your bag and put your shoes on, and follow instructions with up to 6 key words, eg: Put the black box and the keys under Daddys chair. Be able to understand words such as yesterday and tomorrow and understand why and when. He/she should know colours, some numbers and shapes.... Speaking: Your 4yr old should speak intelligibly with only a few speech immaturities still remaining. He/she should be able to tell news with support and use adult like grammar. He/she should ask what, where and why questions and be able to tell a long story, sing songs and retell a story in a logical order. Your 4yr old should use future and past tense; and use and, then, because and but in sentence. Concerned? Please PM me!

18.01.2022 UPDATE: I will be maintaining working relationships with my clients during this ongoing period by continuing lessons via online measures (Skype, FaceTime) and/or phone calls, with lesson plans/HW activities sent via email. Continuing education and learning will be paramount as we all move into our new roles - teaching from home. Together we can continue to achieve our goals! Please email me to discuss your availability and desire to continue

11.01.2022 Commit to reading aloud to your children every day. You will reap the benefits. Here is a great blog about the importance of reading. It is one of the key tips ...in my WE CAN TALK book. The K in WE CAN TALK stands for, "Keep books handy. Your child needs a daily dose of reading." Check out this blog. https://happyyouhappyfamily.com/raising-smart-kids/ See more

09.01.2022 WHY VERBS??! Verbs are important for language because they are required for a child to be able to build a sentence. No verb, means no sentence, which means no clearly communicated want or thought. WHY VERBS??! Verbs are important for language because they are required for a child to be able to build a sentence. 08.01.2022 "What did you do at school, today?" How many times do you ask your child, "What did you do at school, today?" to find out that they: "Didnt do anything." Try to change the way you ask by using opening lines as alternative strategies:... "Hey, you look like you had a great day. I bet you played outside today.." "Ill tell you one thing about my day, if you tell me one thing about your day." "Tell me something new that you learned today." "If you could change one thing about your school day today, what would it be?" "Tell me something that didnt happen today." "Tell me something that made you laugh at school today." "Tell me something about your day that you think will amaze me." See more
