23.01.2022 Concerned? Call ahead 54706300, together we can work out a way Castlemaine Vet Clinic realises we are in unprecedented times and caring for ourselves while our animals are unwell may add to that stress. Therefore if you’re unwell, or immune compromised and uncomfortable about coming in contact with others at the vets, you’re welcome to call ahead and we can organise a car consult or collect your animal from the car if surgery is due! ... There are a few options we can explore, so please do call us and we can work out a plan. As you know we can be busy at certain times of the day, however work with us and together we will try our best to come up with a solution that means your animal, you and our staff can do our best to keep each other and our community as healthy as possible.

22.01.2022 Castlemaine vets would like to offer a mail service. We don't quite have an online capability but if you call us we can post out flea and worm control or medications. Please call to arrange and we will organise your mail out ASAP. We Hope everyone is healthy and well.

20.01.2022 Summer is a busy time for animal health. It can be a time when our animals are vulnerable to a number of potentially life threatening conditions such as heat stroke, dehydration and snake bite as well as other summer related injuries such grass seed wounds, fights and trauma. The best plan is prevention so please feel free to contact the Clinic on 5470 6300 to make an appointment to discuss a summer health management plan for your pet. Animals with heart or respiratory cond...itions, who are over weight, or have long thick coats suffer particularly in summer and often require intervention and support due to heat stress. There are simple things you can do to ensure their comfort and minimise the risk of ill health. Image: Lillie, 12 year old Jack Russell terrier adopted from MAAWS as an older girl by our Practice Manager Alison. Lillie loves to swim in summer!

17.01.2022 Emergency veterinary care for your animals. Not our usual lighthearted post but an important one to share with the fast approaching summer busy season. Castlemaine Veterinary Clinic strives to work tirelessly for the well being of all animals in the area. Our passionate and dedicated team treat and support sick and injured animals, often working exceptionally long hours, particularly over the summer months. To take care of our staff as well as our animals over periods of h...igh demand, we need to partner with a dedicated rural emergency centre to support after hours care. Our partner for after hours care is Central Veterinary Emergency at 29A Michael St, Bendigo (Ph 0413 898 331 or 03 5443 7749). As much as we want to care for all animals in the area at any time of the day or night, it is not physically possible particularly in a rural veterinary clinic. Low vet numbers in regional areas have become an unhappy trend for clinics seeking to increase their veterinary staff to enable round the clock veterinary services. There are several reasons for the rural and regional veterinary staff shortages which are too complex for this article but please see these articles for further explanation: https://vetpracticemag.com.au/dr-gary-turnbull-on-the-vete/ https://www.abc.net.au//vet-shortage-as-suicide-r/10708686 In stark contrast, all Australian capital and larger cities can boast multiple dedicated 24hr emergency clinics, staffed by rotating shifts of specialist emergency vets and nurses much like the emergency centres at regional and metropolitan hospitals for human beings. These centres are able to treat emergency cases from numerous surrounding veterinary clinics who divert their after-hours phone calls to them directly. The team at Castlemaine Veterinary Clinic will try to do our best for the after hours needs of our animal community. We will continue to provide a limited emergency service via our After Hours number (0439 480 866) but when we’re unavailable we will direct you to our dedicated veterinary emergency partner in Bendigo. Thank you from the Castlemaine Veterinary Clinic team and take care.

14.01.2022 It’s national volunteer week. This year the theme is changing communities changing lives. Castlemaine Vet sends a huge shout out to all the wonderful wild life carers, MAAW volunteers and those special individuals who tirelessly dedicate their lives to the lost, unloved, free roaming animals that find themselves in tricky spots. The volunteers are an incredible asset to our community, who are often working in the dark, the heat, the cold and behind the scenes every day. Thank you

11.01.2022 We understand how difficult it can be to pay unexpected vet costs when your beloved animal family member is unwell. There’s no Medicare or Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for our animals unfortunately meaning there’s no financial safety net or support. Happily, there are payment options to help meet those unexpected costs. Castlemaine Vet Clinic (CVC) already provide Vet Pay but we now also offer Zip Pay to our clients. Zip Pay is a simple interest-free payment soluti...on provided by Zip Co and accepted by not only CVC but thousands of stores and online vendors across Australia. Zip Pay lets you make purchases now and pay later, without the need for a credit card. Once you sign up online and get approved, you’ll have a line of credit up to $1,000 and a shopping account If you wish to use Zip Pay, please set up your account online (link below) before visiting the Clinic. Don’t forget your mobile when coming to the Clinic to access your Zip Pay account app. Wishing you the best of animal health and kindly, The Team at CVC https: //zip.co/
