23.01.2022 [image description] Black background with white text How can we best be allies? We have been reading, learning, and thinking about this for some time and especially over the six weeks. As health professionals, we are coming at this a bit like injury management. We must be informed by experts and reliable sources. We must be active; doing the work. We must be accountable. We know there will be mistakes and constant learning. The process must be ongoing. We are committed to making this part of our clinic. We see allyship as not just for now, it’s part of doing business.

20.01.2022 Hopefully the gradual easing of lockdown measures is bringing some light into what has been a tricky time. We chose to close the doors at Castlemaine Foot + Ankle Clinic for face-to-face appointments 7 weeks ago when the first stage of restrictions were introduced and Australia was aiming to prevent the impact coronavirus has had on so many other countries. In line with the easing of restrictions in Victoria, we are reopening the clinic from today Wednesday May 13th with social distancing measures in place, as well as still offering Physiotherapy and Podiatry telehealth appointments. The clinic setup will look a little different in this time, pop over to our website (link in bio) for more details or to contact us if you’d like our help with a pain problem!

17.01.2022 How to wear a mask: As a Podiatrist, Pat wears masks on a daily basis so here he is showing us how he does it. For environmental reasons we advocate wearing washable and reusable cloth masks where possible, but these steps are still applicable to a lot of cloth masks. We understand that lots of people are trying to source masks, whether disposable or reusable, as soon as they can, so for now just getting into the habit of wearing a mask in public and knowing how to wear it effectively and how take it off without contaminating your hands are key things to focus on.

13.01.2022 Exercise during isolation has been interesting. A theme we keep hearing from people is that motivation was high at the start of lockdown but definitely waned the longer it dragged on. Now, some sports are able to cautiously reopen for casual participation, some teams are able to have non-contact training, but it seems a while yet before these things will be back to normal. Walking and running hasn’t been off limits, and now we are able to go out in small groups again, but w...e won’t be seeing the return of parkrun or running events just yet. It can be hard to keep motivated to exercise when the community and connection is taken out. It can also be difficult to stay motivated to exercise when an external goal like a season or competition or event is pushed back or even off the calendar. As health professionals we often set specific exercise for specific goals but it is always important, and now more than ever, to remember to move for movement’s sake. Listen to your body and do what feels good. Don’t worry if it’s not your usual distance or pace or form. Just keep moving. Your body and mind will thank you. simpler times, from Castlemaine parkrun See more

11.01.2022 Hi! We are Patrick Smith and Gabrielle Smith and we’re the faces behind Castlemaine Foot + Ankle Clinic. We are currently consulting online as we have chosen to the close the clinic for face-to-face appointments. We’ve been taking our responsibility as health professionals to flatten the curve very seriously, and while the numbers are looking encouraging we understand that it’s important not to get ahead of ourselves. We are planning how to gradually reopen the clinic in the coming weeks with physical distancing measures in place, as well as continuing telehealth appointments. So rather than back to business as usual, it is a case of embrace the new normal!

09.01.2022 While we are all learning to live differently in this time, which for some of us means delaying or missing out on things that help us stay well, it is important to remember that these needs don’t disappear. We can get creative with how we manage to fill these needs, in the way that lots of us have been exercising at home and socialising over video call. However, if this is not coming easily to you, it is normal to feel flat about what has changed and it is helpful to reach out for support and ideas on how you can adapt.

04.01.2022 R U OK? Sunshine and an afternoon snack is self-care today. Thanks Mt Alexander Shire Council for the sweet treat. Check in on your people:... 1. Ask sincerely. 2. Listen patiently, and with an open mind. 3. Don’t try to fix their problems, ask what they need, and encourage taking action. 4. Check in again.
