25.01.2022 Many thanks to those who lent a hand for our recent working bee in the school grounds. We enjoyed a productive day, ending with a barbecue and salad from the garden. The fence line along Kindy received a clean-up and weed out, the gardens along the entrance to the school got some mulch and the bottom entrance was also weeded and planted out. This all makes a welcome difference to the garden as a whole and was much appreciated. Sprucing up continues as we approach Spring Fair on Sunday, September 22. Come along for a great day, all are welcome!

25.01.2022 Dear Casuarina families and community I hope you and your families and friends are all well and safe. We have monitored the situation as, undoubtedly, you all have done, too.... Based on the weather forecast, the related extreme fire danger and the ongoing smoke situation we have decided to keep CASUARINA CLOSED TOMORROW WEDNESDAY 13 NOVEMBER 2019. This decision was made with all our community members, including staff, in mind. Please be extremely cautious during the hours ahead and stay safe with family and friends. We will keep you all in our minds and hearts. Some of our community members are fighting these fires as we speak and I express my utmost gratitude to all their enormous efforts. We will reassess the situation tomorrow and will make a decision in the early afternoon regarding the opening of Casuarina on Thursday. Best wishes to all of you. Elsbeth Haenggi Principal

19.01.2022 News from Class 3 Class Three have been immersed in faraway places during our Homes Around the World Main Lesson. Through stories we have travelled the world and learnt about various homes, why they are constructed in different ways and the implications the environment has on our design and building decisions. This Main Lesson leads the children into completing their first homework project; designing, constructing and presenting a model home from around the world.... We want to also share with you our amazing cozy slippers, how gorgeous! Class Three have been using a pattern to create these wonderful slippers.

17.01.2022 Our Casuarina Craft group has been mostly in hibernation this year, but did manage to make a collection of toys and gifts using natural fabrics. We are offering beautiful handmade items for sale as a fundraiser to provide toys and story props for our classrooms. The stall is open today in the bus bay area of the school from 9am 3pm and Wednesday 9 December 2020 in the bus bay 2pm 3.30pm.

16.01.2022 Dear Casuarina families and communities, I hope you and your families and friends are all well and safe. As over the previous days, we have monitored the fire and weather situation closely.... With the relatively positive developments of the fire situation in and close to Coffs Harbour and the temporarily easing weather conditions we will resume normal operation of our school tomorrow, Thursday, 14th November. We are aware that the fire situation is not contained in many places. The situation may be different for families throughout our community so please be careful and make decisions regarding school attendance based on your local and personal circumstances. Our thoughts are with all staff and members of the community who have been affected by the fires. Please remain cautious and stay safe with family and friends. The school will offer a free Breezeway morning tea and lunch* tomorrow in support of families who had to relocate and may struggle to organise lunch boxes. Any food that is left over will be donated to people who are still stranded in Coffs. Again I express my utmost gratitude to all the enormous efforts of volunteers helping keeping our communities safe. Please let your childs class teacher know if your child has experienced events that may have been disturbing or feels anxious about the situation. I look forward to resuming a more normal routine and hope this is the case for all of you. Best wishes to all of you. Elsbeth Haenggi Principal * Pasta with meat or vegetarian sauce. GF pasta is also available. Salad

16.01.2022 News from Class 1 Giinagay! Class One have just completed a Literacy/HSIE main lesson called, "Dreamtime stories". This main lesson meets very nicely the developmental stage of the class one child. The stories, songs and verses connect the children with the local Gumbaynggirr people, helping the children to gradually awaken to their local environment. Stories are told that personify all that surrounds the children from the rivers and ocean to the plants and animals. Although... personified, the stories are designed to imaginatively reveal the different elements of the environment in a truthful (that is, scientifically based) manner, evoking feelings of reverence, love, wonder and gratitude for creation. Listening to story is very important for all human beings, not just the children. It helps to build a fuller picture about what it means to be the caretakers of the earth and all her gifts. It brings knowledge, reverence, and gratitude. We had fun with painting during this main lesson. The ethereal nature of these stories is best expressed with water and paint. Here the children were able to explore their feeling for the story. We also worked on consolidating many literacy skills learnt this year from letter formation to word building. Included are a few photographs of the children's paintings which were all very beautiful, and also our morning verse. We greet the land on which we stand, hand in hand in Gumbaynggirr land. We thank the elders both present and past, who cared for the land so it will last. We greet the sun that shines so bright, and fills us with its love and light. We look and see friends all around, for whom love in our hearts we have found.

15.01.2022 News from Class 2 Class Two has started the term with a number main lesson and background story about the life of Melissa the Worker Bee. In particular we are working on strengthening core number skills for addition, subtraction and grouping by building a sense for the relationships between numbers. Each child is continuing to make great individual progress with reading and writing skills. This is passion-driven: as a child reads more and fluency builds, they become confiden...t and very engaged with what they are reading. Library days (Mondays and Wednesdays) are a real highlight as children discover even greater types of texts that they can independently understand. The children share a lot of ideas and personal interests through books. Book Week was a great opportunity to extend this through sharing favourites, dressing up as characters and creating our own little booklets. In craft we have dyed and are sewing our names on library bags and have just commenced making our own hobby horses. Each horse has a unique personality that we are just beginning to discover as we create them. Swimming is an exciting event every Monday, the bus trip being almost as exciting as the swim. We have commenced practice for our end of year play and once again I become aware of the children’s love for role play. The kindness garden of sunflowers sown last term is thriving outside the classroom and inside the classroom we are noticing a lot about kindnesses shown to us and the many ways we appreciate and can be kind to others. The children are busy planting and harvesting from their Spring garden with lovely Matt, so I think you might be getting some produce home from time to time. We are already thinking about and looking forward to Class 3.

15.01.2022 We had a visit today and a performance for our Kindergarten to Class 2 students for National Water Week. The Toads presented "Water for Life".

11.01.2022 Hayley Egan and Salvatore Rossano take children on a journey to discover the music of Italy through music and storytelling. In this interactive workshop, discover the rhythms and sounds of various traditional music styles. The castanettes, the accordion, the tamburello, the Ocarina and the ciaramella are some of the instruments that bring energy and melody to the program! Then, with the infectious live music backing them, students practice the lively folk dance the Tarantella.

Marley won first prize in the class 3/4 section, and for her efforts our school has been given $500 dollars to spend on teaching materials, and Marley herself was awarded a certificate and further prize money. The winning entries are exhibited in the gallery as part of The Overwintering Project exhibition, which opened last Friday. Marley, Manolita, Kane and Lynn were all invited along for the event. 10.01.2022 Were really looking forward to Open Day tomorrow and helping people discover what a Steiner education can offer their children. 10.01.2022 - , The Kindergarten children, together with Don and Aaron, have worked very hard to make The Chook Palace comfortable and welcoming for our three new friends - Hattie, Gertie and Lottie, who arrived on Friday morning. Its so lovely to have beautiful girls in the Kindergarten garden again.

09.01.2022 News from Rose Room and Grey Gum During our last main lesson Kindergarten and Peach Blossoms have been sharing their family heritage with the class. It has been delightful watching some of the once timid children talk to the whole class about their families and their countries of origin. They were so proud of their families and happy to answer questions from their peers. The classes have also loved seeing some historic family heirlooms, such as, an old child’s rocking cha...ir, pennies, Great-Grandma’s broach, wooden toys from Europe, and even family crests. Thank you, parents, for your help with preparing your children for this sharing. We have also discovered: how to greet others in quite a few languages (which I hope the children have shared with you); many forms of transport to travel around the world, including rickshaws from China, tuk-tuks from Thailand, and even a double-decker bus from England; and, how to recognise Australia and other countries on maps. Now we are moving quickly through Term 4 we have been focusing on preparing the Kindergarten children for Class 1. Movement, equipment-play, and the popular water pump, as well as exploring the upper school grounds have been a daily activity. The children are becoming more confident and are taking healthy risks as they challenge their abilities on the equipment. They have also been stretching out and running across the expanse of the grounds using forward, backward, and even sideways movements. Most of the children have embraced these moments with a sense of pure freedom and joy as they race across the gorgeous grass, while some of the Peach Blossoms have found they need a little encouragement and a teacher to run alongside. The Peach Blossoms are also preparing for their new role as Kindy’s next year, as we have higher expectations of them this term. We have asked them to lead the class lines over to the upper school; encouraged them to play, connect with and identify their Peach Blossom Peers; and are preparing them to identify as the new Kindergarten children for next year. We have a busy and exciting term ahead of us with Advent beginning November 29th this year, as well as all of our Christmas preparations. Looking forward to a wonderful Term 4 with your children.
