20.01.2022 What happens, if we don't update to Windows 10 & can an antivirus like Macafee safeguard my Windows 7 PC Many customers ask this question as Windows 7 continues to run inspite of End of Support but will not provide security updates & hence is more prone to viruses, malwares & security threats including hacking. Please remember that the sort of exploits that Microsoft patches through OS upgrades are at lower level than antivirus. Hackers who want to get access to your comput...ers can often get around anti-virus/malware products as they function at a lower level, pretending to be the core OS system itself, whereas the Anti-virus/malware hooks in at a higher level. Honestly there's very few reasons for a home user not to update to Windows 10 as its pretty stable now & its user interface is pretty much the same as Windows 7 (unlike Windows 8/8.1 which were very different). At most home users will run into some older device driver (especially in laptops) that are incompatible, and the installer will flag it and tell you you can't update. Most of them can be researched and options can be figured out e.g. disable the device if you don't need it, or replace it with a newer compatible one. If you are unsure or need assistance, please contact Casula Computers & we will be able to discuss.

14.01.2022 Support for Windows 7 is nearing the end After 10 years, support for Windows 7 is coming to an end on 14 January 2020. We want you to be ready, so we're contacting you in advance to give you time to prepare. What does end of support mean?... When Windows 7 reaches the end of support, your computer will still work but Microsoft will no longer provide security and software updates. While you could continue to use your PC running Windows 7, without continued software and security updates, it will be at a greater risk of viruses and malware even with additional antivirus software. What can you do to prepare? Back up your files and photos Upgrade your OS to Windows 10 Find a Windows 10 computer that fits your needs If you need help in upgrading your Windows 7 computer, we are here to help with this transition.

06.01.2022 Microsoft on Tuesday warned Windows users that cyber criminals are exploiting a zero-day vulnerability using malicious PowerPoint documents sent as email attachments. Although Microsoft does not label its advisories with the same four-step threat scoring system it uses for security updates, it said that a successful exploit would let hackers hijack the PC so that they could, for example, steal information or plant other malware on the machine. The vulnerability affects all ve...rsions of Windows, from the aging Windows Vista to the very newest Windows 8.1, and is within the operating system's code that handles OLE (object linking and embedding) objects. OLE is most commonly used by Microsoft Office for embedding data from an Excel spreadsheet in, say, a Word document. "At this time, we are aware of limited, targeted attacks that attempt to exploit the vulnerability through Microsoft PowerPoint," the advisory said. Other Office file types, however, could also be used to exploit the flaw.

05.01.2022 Cyberbullying is a nasty phenomenon wherein people use electronic communication to harm others. With so many kids using email, social networking, and even texting from cell phones, there is more direct communication than ever before. Unlike offline forms of communication, such as telephone conversations, however, these "chats" and "messages" are being digitally stored somewhere. So, they can be forwarded to someone other than the original recipient, they can be edited to dist...ort the communication, and they can be published to different places (such as to a blog or social network profile page). Once the communication is "out there," you have lost control of it. Teach your children to be thoughtful with their words and to consider how a message might be abused or altered. Discuss with children the need to watch their words and deeds and consider the feelings of others. Should your children become victims of cyberbullying, talk with them about the event and discuss how to cope with it. Involve teachers and administrators at their school. Don't hesitate to contact other parents--they may have no idea what is going on. Children should be empowered by technology, not made victims of it.

03.01.2022 Since last week, Microsoft has again been importing Windows 10 Version 1809 with the automatic updates. The newest Windows brings some simplifications, e.g. with the production of screenshots. But unfortunately not all system bugs are fixed yet. Version 1809 also no longer supports the Radeon HD2000 and HD4000 graphics cards from AMD. They are 10 and 11 years old, respectively, and thus, according to Microsoft's estimation, apparently belong to the old ways.

01.01.2022 How safe are online password managers? Digital bad guys are as concerned about return on investment (ROI) as any big business. Thats why they attack credit-card processing centers rather than gathering account information one credit card at a time. Its also why theyre more interested in cracking online password managers instead of stealing individual passwords. People who use online password managers have a lot riding on the application's integrity as chances of others gaining access to the stored passwords is high.
