22.01.2022 My son goes to band practice every Wednesday and as part of the ritual we call into a baker just around the corner from his music school and he always buys a custard horn. The other day when we called in, the owner served us and I relayed to him the fact that my son was a fan of his custard horn and that he made me stop every week for one! And for the first time in visiting the shop for six months, I saw this business owner smile! And then we entered a short banter where he t...ried to encourage me to buy more than one horn, and it was five minutes of light hearted fun for both of us! But what it showed me was how important just giving someone a compliment is! Every day this business owner goes into his store and every day he serves customers - but I had to wonder how many times had he received compliments for his goods? So today your mission is to give a small business owner a compliment! Because to give someone reason to smile and be proud, is a beautiful gift and I encourage you my friends to be the instigator!

21.01.2022 On this retreat I had the absolute pleasure of meeting a young woman who, through various therapies over the last 9 months, had uncovered from the depths of her memory, that her and her five siblings had been subjected to a pedophile ring as a young child and woman. Six months ago she recalled that at 14 she had been pregnant and given birth - but she had suppressed the memory. And as part of the healing process, she attended a session where she recreated the birthing of her ...baby girl and when I heard this I broke down and sobbed. And I told this young woman that I couldn’t believe her courage and strength. And she said to me - am I ever going to be ok? And I replied by saying, that the fact she was being so fearless in uncovering the truth indicated to me that she would be. There is no doubt that what happens to us as children can have a significant impact on how we function as adults. But what can be done - can also be undone - if you have the will and the faith. Today if you need to start the process of healing then do so. It may be scary - but not as scary as remaining broken! Trust me!

20.01.2022 Well today I am heading off for a 3 day retreat and while I am looking forward to the massages and pampering I am also looking forward to being alcohol free! For the last 3-4 months I have not been able to sustain being alcohol free and I reached a point where enough was enough and so I am using this retreat as my fresh starting point. And while I am definitely not an alcoholic - I recognise that it is an issue if I can’t go a week alcohol free!... Sometimes we fall into patterns of behaviour which act as a crutch, but are not healthy. And I now need to create a new path to follow and so I am taking action to make sure that happens. And I am excited! So today if you need help with something - ask for it. The solution is really that easy!

15.01.2022 I had a young friend of mine pop around yesterday to catch up. She broke up with her boyfriend about four months ago, which was gruelling to say the least. So when she told me yesterday that she had caught up with this guy last weekend and he had been texting her every day - I asked if she was ready to go through that pain and anguish again? Because she had just reached a place where she had begun to get her life back on track and move forward and now with this guy re-enterin...g her life - she was only going to relapse (quite literally). And I asked her if that was what she wanted - and be both knew it was not. When you remove toxic people from your life you can only move on if they stay that way. And for me the ability for this young woman to be free was essential if not mandatory! Today if you feel tempted to go backwards - resist! And remember why you chose to leave in the first place. Because your sanity and self worth is crucial and to jeopardise it would be quite literally insane! And no one wants that in their life! Remember that!

02.01.2022 Last night I attended the Sandover medal awards night and it was certainly very memorable as it was the first time in history that the men’s and women’s awards were combined. When a fellow female guest heard this news she turned to me and said It only took 100 years. And while I agreed, I did reply that at least we were on the right track! And that in itself is heartening! I myself don’t like to wait for action and am always trying to speed things up! But some things undeni...ably take longer than expected and are achieved with baby steps. And while that may be frustrating, that’s what makes them so worthy of celebration! Today if you only take a step towards your goals - be glad. It is through commitment and determination we will succeed and a step in the right direction is advancement which ever way you look at it!

02.01.2022 So I spoke to a girlfriend recently and she relayed a story of how she had been working from home, when she received a call from her Eastern States boss to say that they were going to make one of her staff redundant that day and then send her home in a taxi. Now my friend was totally surprised by this news and lives some distance from the office, but as she said, there was no way she wasn’t going to be there for her staff member when she was advised. So she drove in and prov...ided an excuse to the staff and then waited outside the board room while her staff member was told the news. And then she comforted her and drove her home and I really appreciated what an amazing boss my friend truly was. A good leader has to be many things - smart, bold, decisive. But they also need to have a heart! So if your boss is one of these rare gems - thank them today - because appreciation is a good thing to do!
