25.01.2022 Stocking up on all hoses and fittings to continue work whilst most outlets will be closed over Christmas and New Year. #BoatMaintenance #LagoonCatamaran #Lagoon440 #Circumnavigation #PreventativeMaintenance

24.01.2022 We are really pleased to hear that Excess Catamarans will be starting on a collaborative process with its potential buyers via an online platform due to start 3rd week in February. Excess catamarans is part of the Beneteau group and we were lucky enough to spend some time with its new director Thibaut de Montvallon and his family whilst cruising New Caledonia. This collaborative process aims to incorporate the views of experienced sailors into building the catamaran of the ...future, a long overdue process in the wider group. A brave step forward, let’s hope that bar stool sailors restrain themselves! #Boatbuilding #LagoonCatamaran #Beneteau #CatamaranSailing https://www.actunautique.com//avec-l-excess-lab-excess-cat

24.01.2022 People often ask about our scariest moments during our circumnavigation. For me lightning is scarier than high winds or big waves. We try and avoid electrical storm cells by using both radar on our boat and the radar app on our phones if we have reception. Much damage can be done with a single strike and certain areas are more likely than others to be conducive to electrical storms. The East Coast of Australia, The Anambas, Singapore and Panama have certainly given us a few scares. Have you found a good solution to avoid lightening strikes? What do you fear most on a boat? #circumnavigation #safetyatsea #lagooncatamaran #lagoon440

20.01.2022 Dean from AME strutting his 'good stuff' today The Boat Works Gold Coast. Good progress by AME and great to have such happy people working on IMPI. Thank you guys !

20.01.2022 It may be Sunday but we are working hard to get Impi ready for the water. Today we did a lot of cleaning as the tradies were not there making dust so the environment is a bit nicer. We put extra seals to prevent water ingress in the sail drives and fitted new props. Bring on launch time! #yanmar #boatmaintenance #boatworks #sailinglife #circumnavigation #lagooncatamaran #lagoon440

18.01.2022 We are so happy that #CycloneYasa has spared the sailing boats in #Fiji. This small island nation needs to be congratulated for its response to the threat of this cyclone and for its continued hospitality to international yachts. On behalf of all our friends who stayed safe a big T H A N K Y O U to an amazing island nation. #TogetherWeCan #Circumnavigation #SailingLife #ThankYouFiji

17.01.2022 M A G I C A L That’s the lads at AME here at The Boat Works on GoldCoast Australia. We create a mould of the non skid deck on Impi to place on the back extended step of the boat. Many place teak or other materials for ease of construction however we want to keep a similar theme throughout Impi and retain the Lagoon look and feel.... After applying wax (6 coats - mould release wax) Dean can be seen brushing in the gel, Mitch and Dean lifting the mould from the deck etc. The mould being an inverted print then requires a similar process this time on top of the mould to bring back the corrected surface which is then the product we will apply to the boat. This morning includes getting a template of the step so we can cut and place the section into place. Once done we will spray gel on the extension up to the edges of the non slip deck that has been secured in place. We share this so sailors out there can have a feel for what goes into boat projects - we hope to enjoy Back to work

10.01.2022 People often ask us what the most amazing anchorage has been on our circumnavigation. This photo was taken in Northern Brazil, In the Maranhenses an amazing natural wonder that combines desert with freshwater lakes. Few yachts come here as the river entrance is shallow and treacherous with 6 meter tides making the water run at speed. We saw so many amazing things here, even four eyed fish! #NaturalWondersOfTheWorld #Circumnavigation #Lagooncatamaran #Lagoon440

02.01.2022 So this is Mitchell, currently working on developing an orange square below Impi in case we overturn. An additional safety feature we want to develop. When acquaintances on a Leopard were flipped over in the Indian Ocean a few years ago, we spent days and days scanning satellite photography to locate them. It is very hard to spot a white hull in the ocean. A year after the day the cat was upturned it arrived back on the South African Coast, fully intact. It was clear from NSRI footage that someone had survived for quite a while....The black stripes you see is a charcoal guide coat, indicating where sanding has happened and where more needs to be done. #BoatBuilding #SafetyFirst #LagoonCatamaran #lagoon440

02.01.2022 The two largest planets in our solar system are coming closer together than they have been since the Middle Ages, and it’s happening just in time for Christmas - hence the nickname of the Christmas Star. While it’s not an actual star, the two planets will certainly make a bright splash in the night sky. On the night of December 21 - the winter solstice in the north, the summer solstice in the south - Jupiter and Saturn will appear so closely aligned in our sky that they will look like a double planet. May we take this occasion to wish you health and happiness in the new year. Hugs Brent and Ana #circumnavigation #lagooncatamaran #lagoon440 #sailinglife
