25.01.2022 CWD article on the stained glass restoration at St Joseph’s.

24.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was Why do I Need the Church?. In this session we learned about the mystery of the Church and what it means in our lives. This week’s challenge: Reflect on your relationship with God. Do I have a personal relationship with Jesus in his Church?

24.01.2022 Let’s pray for the Catholic community of Canowindra. St Edwards was senselessly vandalised on Sunday night.

24.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was The Last Things. In this session we learned about judgment, heaven, hell and purgatory and why Catholics pray for the dead. This week’s challenge: Reflect on what you think it means to know God. What is one way this week that you can get to know God better? To love him more deeply? To serve him more completely?

23.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was Mary and the Saints. In this session we learned what the Church teaches about Mary, how we honour Mary and the saints as models for all Christians and the mysteries of the rosary. This week’s challenge: Pray the rosary. As you do, reflect on how each mystery of the Rosary points us to Christ through Mary.

23.01.2022 The Chrism Mass was celebrated on Monday 19th October at St Brigid's Church, Dubbo. Given the Cathedral is currently closed for renovations, Bishop Michael and ...the priests of the Diocese gathered in Dubbo to celebrated the Chrism Mass, postponed from April due to COVID. During this Mass, the Oils of Catechumens and the Sick were blessed and the Chrism Oil was consecrated. These are the oils that will be used in the coming year. The clergy gathered to concelebrate this Mass and during it, they renewed their priestly commitment. Bishop Michael and the priests then attended a celebration dinner to mark priestly jubilees, including Fr Pat Ruane's 60th anniversary since being ordained.

20.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was A Love That Lasts: Discovering Authentic Love. In this session we learned about the essential differences between eros and agape, what it means to love according to God’s plan, and the essential characteristics of this authentic love. This week’s challenge: Think about what a love built on wanting the very best for another person would look like. How would this way of loving change your relationships with your spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend, children, friends, co-workers and/or relatives?

19.01.2022 You can now sign into Mass or private prayer at St Joseph’s and Kenna Hall using a QR code. QR codes are located outside St Joseph’s and Kenna Hall, and at each of the sign in registers. You can use the QR code instead of the manual registers. The QR code will take you to a Google form, where you can enter your phone number and the names of up to 10 people in your household. More information is in this week's Overview, and on the QR code posters at Church.

16.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was Penance and Anointing of the Sick. In this session we learned about the two sacraments of healing, why Penance/Reconciliation/Confession is important, and why we confess our sins to a priest. This week’s challenge: Attend the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Fridays from 5:00pm and Saturdays from 5:15pm).

15.01.2022 We're very excited to be able to have more people at Mass! We're still subject to the 4 square metre rule, so in line with the Government's announcement yesterday, capacity at St Joseph's increases to 120 people from Friday 23 October. All other Mass capacities remain the same.

12.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was Matrimony and Holy Orders. In this session we learned about how the sacrament of Matrimony helps couples every day, how Christ’s love for his Church is the model for marriage, and how Holy Orders comes in an unbroken line from the Apostles. This week’s challenge: If you are married, reflect on how your union signifies the union of Christ and the Church. In what areas do you fall short? Where can you improve? If you aren’t married, reflect on how you can use your single state to reflect Christ’s sacrificial love and service to others more.

12.01.2022 CELEBRATING 200 YEARS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN AUSTRALIA The bicentenary of Catholic education in Australia commemorates the anniversary of the first official C...atholic school established in 1821. Bishop McKenna celebrated Mass today at St Mary's Church, Orange to recognise the contribution of religious, clergy and lay people to the foundation of Catholic education, and the distinctive role Catholic schools play in educating and forming young people of faith and service in their communities. Teachers and students from across the Diocese, as well as members of the clergy, religious orders and staff from Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst, attended Mass to commemorate this milestone. In his homily, Bishop Michael spoke about giving thanks to God for the many blessings, especially the faith and generosity, and the talents, of all the women and men who have worked to build and maintain one of the world’s great systems of Catholic schools. You can read Bishop Michael's homily here: https://bathurst.catholic.org.au/

09.01.2022 How many times do we think the weeks are just passing by in a flash and almost roll from one into another? Or are we ever part of a great experience and hardly remember some of what happened? Or do we ever have conversations with people, but our minds are so far removed we have struggled to recall what was said? Alpha gives us a chance to stop and hop off the ‘treadmill’ of our lives. To connect with others, to think, reflect and be challenged, and to be a part of discussions on the meaningful things in our lives. Oh! And the delicious home-cooked meals! 07.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was The Eucharist. In this session we learned about the Eucharist as Real Presence, sacrifice and communion. This week’s challenge: Choose one way to begin to spend more time with Jesus this week. Consider spending a few minutes after Mass in thanksgiving, coming to adoration, or attending Mass on another day as well as Sunday.

06.01.2022 Commencing Wednesday 25 November, throughout Advent, the Diocese will facilitate online Word and Faith gatherings, called WORD&FAITH@home. The aim of the gatherings is to allow each of us to enter into the readings for each Sunday’s Mass, spend some time of reflection and have a short interaction with others about what the readings mean to you. We will then hear from Bishop Michael, who will offer commentary on the scriptures for the week. WORD&FAITH@home will take place via Zoom. Each session will last around 30 minutes. It will commence on 25 November on Wednesdays at 7:00pm, Fridays at 11:00am and Saturdays at 2:00pm. Everyone is welcome to take part in these gatherings. Use the QR Code to join the sessions or go to https://bthcatholic.zoom.us/j/4582615130.

06.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was A Catholic Moral Vision. In this session we learned about what leads to true happiness, freedom, virtue, moral acts, how sin hinders our pursuit of happiness and the importance of forming our conscience. This week’s challenge: The cardinal virtues are prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance. Which of these virtues do you think you need to grow in most? What is one thing you can do this week to help you grow in this area?

06.01.2022 Do you have photos of the old St Mary’s, or of the opening of the new St Mary’s Church in 1988? We’d love to have high resolution copies to include as a visual history of St Mary’s when it reopens. Contact Amy on 6362 2378 or [email protected].

04.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was The Holy Spirit and the Life of Grace. In this session we learned about how the Holy Spirit builds, animates, and sanctifies the Church, bringing souls into communion with God so that they bear fruit and give witness to Christ. This week’s challenge: Take some time to reflect on the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, and self-control. Which one seems the easiest? Which one seems the hardest? Pray that the Spirit will enter into your life and transform you with his fruits.

04.01.2022 This week in Symbolon our session was Walk Through the Mass. In this session we learned about the four main sections of the Mass, how we encounter God in word and Eucharist, how we can get more out of every Mass and why we must attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. This week’s challenge: Reflect on why you attend (or don’t attend) Mass. Do I come to Mass to receive or to give? What am I doing to prepare my soul for Mass? What prevents me from coming to Mass?
