25.01.2022 Children are dealing with a world that is far different than anything theyve ever known. Add to that, the fact that their rocks parents, teachers, grandpare...nts are all worried, stressed and just different. Everything is upside down for them. You can help by trying to bring some calm into their day. Add a bit more cuddles and relaxed playtime. Do some fun things. Maybe make a big tent in the house, have a sleepover in the family room, game night, make cookies, look at the stars. Take a breath Mom and Dad. 24.01.2022 Schools are essential, not-for-profit services - A business approach to COVID-19 wont work Catholic education has welcomed the Australian Governments JobKeepe...r wage subsidies to support families facing job losses and stand downs. However, the National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC) is concerned the support does not work for essential services such as low fee schools. NCEC Executive Director Jacinta Collins said under the current arrangement high fee private schools will access federal wage subsidies to retain crucial staff, but low fee non-government schools will be left out. A business approach to schools simply wont work, said Ms Collins. High fee Independent schools will be assessed as losing more income because they are starting from a much higher base. In low fee schools, staff salaries make up the majority of school expenditure, so a loss of even 15 or 20 per cent of fee income well below the required 30 per cent threshold will have an enormous impact on our staffing provision at a time when schools are being asked to deliver both onsite and remote learning. JobKeeper doesnt solve the challenges low fees schools are experiencing; we need a solution that works for the whole sector. We are ready to work collaboratively with the government, and the rest of the sector, to come up with something effective and fair, she said. Schools are essential services and are being called on by the government to stay open and operational, Catholic schools are already experiencing strain on our resources as demand increases for fee relief and schools respond to the challenges of delivering remote learning and teaching. To respond effectively to this global crisis we cannot afford to lose teachers or staff, particularly in disadvantaged communities, which are likely to be the hardest hit by higher unemployment and stand downs. Catholic schools are already in discussions with government about the significant impacts experienced in regional and indigenous boarding schools. These communities need greater support, she said. Ms Collins commended school communities on their response to the pandemic. Our schools and families are to be commended on how they have managed significant impacts in school operations in the period leading up to the end of Term 1, she said. We are grateful for the support of Catholic parishes and services in a range of areas including pastoral care, counselling, social welfare, outreach and support for the homeless. The Catholic education sector is the largest non-government school provider in Australia, educating more than 764,000 students or one in five Australian students - in 1,746 schools, the vast majority of which are low-fee schools. #cathedau #covid19 #coronavirus

21.01.2022 Up to 100 scholarships will be offered to primary and secondary school-aged children and young people in care, in a new, innovative partnership between the St...ate Government and Catholic Education South Australia (CESA). The Catholic Schools Scholarship Program will see scholarship recipients receive full tuition, uniforms, textbooks, excursion and extracurricular activities, continuing each year until the child or young person completes their schooling. The scholarship program, funded by CESA, will be offered to children and young people in both metropolitan and regional SA, specifically new students into the Catholic education system. The scholarship program starts this term, with DCP caseworkers and carers working together to identify children and young people who may benefit from the program. 11.01.2022 2020 ATAR announcement - the Education Council - made up of all the state, territory and federal education ministers - yesterday agreed a nationally consistent set of messages to ensure all year 12 students, their families and teachers across Australia are confident in, and clearly understand, the university admissions processes for 2021: Current year 12 students will be able to complete a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE) this year. States and ...territories are putting arrangements in place to take account of disadvantage faced by this years student cohort due to COVID-19, while ensuring the integrity of the assessment process. Students should continue learning and finish their year 12 studies to the best of their ability to ensure they gain the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully transition to university study, other post-school education options, or work in2021. Students completing the SSCE in each state and territory, and meeting ATAR eligibility requirements in 2020 will receive anATAR. States and territories have worked closely with schools and tertiary admissions centres to ensure that the disruption of the 2020 school year does not impact the validity of the ATAR. The ATAR remainsanaccuraterankingofyear12studentresultsforuniversityentry. Students will be able to use their ATAR to apply for university admission in 2021 as is the normal practice. Universities understand that 2020 will be a challenging year for Year 12 students and that students may be concerned. Universities have a range of entry pathways available every year for students
