20.01.2022 Happy Fostfur Tail! Meet Angel. She was abandoned at the pound by her owner. When we rescued her, she was very sad and angry with humans and was a little hissy growling ball of fur with PTSD that had to be medicated to calm her down. We don't give up on cats that come into our care. We sent her to one of our 'Scaredy Cat' Foster Carers for some quiet time and therapy with Captain Lorca (he's an amazing Cat Dad). ... At first, Angel didn't want anything to do with anyone. Refused to eat. Peed in her water bowl. Hissed and growled every time the cage was open. It was going to be a long time before she'd be rehabilitated... However, this little kitty has completely changed over the last week. Slowly, slowly, she's learned to trust her foster carer and today she's turned the corner. No more hisses. No more growls. Just an adorable croaky 'I need love' meow and a need for full body pats! Soon she'll be out of that crate and socialising. Once she's been fattened up a little and is completely trusting humans again, we'll put her up for adoption. This is why we never give up on cats in our care. We don't know what they've been through in their former lives but we can see through the anger and the hate to the inner softies. It just takes time and patience. 18.01.2022 Benni is ready for his furrever home! Benni was chipped but not desexed, was left on the streets until he was trapped and ended up at a pound. He was scared and hissy and had trouble eating. After a three weeks of foster care and a major dental for the cost of $840 (12 extractions!) he's feeling much better and can eat properly. ... Benni is so happy with being an inside cat and not in pain, he's started head butting his foster carer enthusiastically... not bad for a cat that had forgotten how to meow and only hissed. 10.01.2022 This is Janice's surgery story. Janice has been in care with us for 2 years while her wound has been healing. She was found with her collar cutting in under her armpit, leaving her with a huge open wound, exposing tendons, bone and muscle. Proof that safety collars aren't necessarily safe! After 2 years of surgery and treatments, she needs an omental pedicle graft and thoracodorsal axial pattern skin flap, costing $4100. The specialist vet hospital has agreed to let CPoM pay ...off the surgery in instalments so we can get it done as soon as possible. This year, Cat People of Melbourne have chosen to focus more on adults in need, whether they're owner surrenders, scaredies from the pound or elderly felines. Because of this, the little extra money we get from our kitten adoptions hasn't been able to cover the surgeries, dentals and medical issues of our cats in care. So we're asking you for help. Every little bit assists us (we don't expect anyone to donate thousands) and everything from this fundraiser will go directly towards paying off our current and upcoming specialist surgery and medical bills.
