25.01.2022 Junior Finals Update By Ty Matthews Just wanted to update on the progress of our teams playing in our Junior semi finals over the past 2 weekends.... Our U17 Team managed to make 173 and were successful in defending this with Mt Waverly being bowled out for 116 and have won through as the the highest place winner to the Grand Final over the next 2 weekends Our U15 Gold Alan Taylor shield team unfortunately had to play a 20\20 game on the second weekend due to being washed out the first weekend and went down in a close game losing in the 19th over trying to defend a score of 85. I want to thank Andrew for all his hard work this year with the team. Our U15 Green had the close game and on the first week batted first and made 177 out on the 3rd and 4th eleven ground. Mulgrave nearly took it all the way but some fine bowling by the boys in particular Fred Noble at the end and getting figures of 5-20 and securing the last wicket, they ended up getting over the line by 5 runs and have also won through to the Grand final over the next 2 weekends. Our U13 Team in the first week made 143 of there 30 overs and last Sunday and Mulgrave gave it a shake but the boys were to good in the end bowling them out for 108 and securing a spot in the Grand Final these next 2 weekends So a good weekend for the 4 teams with 3 progressing to this weeks grand finals. The U13 team will play their Grand final at home on oval number 7 at Caulfield Park and both the U15 and U17 teams although earning home grand finals will have to play them away due to our success of our senior teams who have also qualified for home finals, but we are lucky that both games will be played at Mckinnon reserve oval number 1 and 2. So a great opportunity having both teams U15 and U17 playing at the same time side by side to get lots of caulfield support down there to cheer both teams on Sunday morning, also keeping in mind our U13 team playing back at caulfield park at home. All 3 games to start at 8.45am in the morning. I want to also take this opportunity to remind all about our Junior Awards night Wed the 18th March starting at 5.45pm sharp please click on the link below for details. Good luck to all teams this weekend and next in the Grand finals enjoy the experience and do our club proud on and off the field!!!!! Go Fields!

25.01.2022 Thanks to all of the members and supporters who have sent messages of support to the club in the lead up to the 2019/20 VSDCA North-South 1st XI Grand Final. Obviously our 1st XI didn’t get the chance to compete for the premiership, with the game cancelled mid week due to the broader community concerns around Covid-19. It was a game Adrian, Jake and the team were really looking forward to, following wins in the qualifying and semi finals by a combined 295 runs and a comfortab...le win over the other grand finalist Oakleigh CC in our home and away meeting this season. Yesterday the VSDCA announced that Oakleigh has been awarded the 1st XI premiership due to being the highest ranked team, effectively honoring the VSDCA’s playing condition that is in place to decide a winner in finals that have been attempted to be played, but washed out or abandoned. We had finished 3 points behind Oakleigh at the end of the home and away season due to not playing in round one and playing one less match. We congratulate the Oakleigh Cricket Club on being declared 1st XI premiers this season, and accept the VSDCA’s ruling in what was an unprecedented situation to find themselves in. The players are disappointed - they were attempting to win a third 1st XI premiership in four seasons - however they are a strong, close knit and resilient group and this will drive them even harder when cricket resumes in 2020/21. So, ultimately a strange and somewhat empty way to end a cricket season, but as we all know we are living in strange times and have bigger challenges ahead. Thanks to everyone for their support this season, look after your families and loved ones and we hope to see you back at Caulfield Park later in the year. Regards Shaun On behalf of President Pat Lennon and the committee of the Caulfield Cricket Club

24.01.2022 The Webjet.com.au Round 4 Team of The Round is in. Despite splitting the points with Brighton Cricket Club, there was an even spread of strong individual performances across the grades. Well done to all players selected!

23.01.2022 We share the points with Box Hill Cricket Club in Round 3. Wins to the 1st and 3rd XI thanks to fantastic unbeaten efforts with the bat from Jack White (100*), Josh Agar (75*) and Asher Barolsky (47*)

22.01.2022 It’s that time again! As we move into Spring and can all see the light at the end of the tunnel with an end to stage 4 COVID-19 restrictions in Melbourne not far away, plans are well underway for season 2020/21. We are working with the VSDCA to understand when the season will commence and what format it will take, and once a start date is announced, our pre-season campaign will kick into full swing. Coach Adrian Jones has already mapped out our schedule, noting one benefit of... the later than normal start means no need for indoor net sessions with everything to be completed outdoors. For now it’s a waiting game. Another benefit of the delayed start to the season has been the significant re-leveling and renovation undertaken of the centre wicket square and surrounds at Caulfield Park. With the centre square being top dressed more or less every off season for the last decade, the turf wicket square had become distinctly raised above the rest of the oval, and needing re-leveling. We thank the City of Glen Eira for using the opportunity provided by COVID-19 to get the works done, and our players (particularly the fast bowlers) are looking forward to running around on the new flat surface when we get to play some cricket again. Doing our bit for the community.... Via our connection with the Knight family in Wendouree, in recent seasons we have been privileged to support Cricket without Boundaries. This is a brilliant initiative founded by Wendouree cricket club, where old cricket gear is donated by cricket clubs and schools around Victoria and then shipped to communities in cricket playing countries overseas who need our support. In June we were able to provide some assistance to some of the most disadvantaged communities in Sri Lanka. The donation of second hand cricket gear, cricket clothing and children's schools items were distributed among kids studying in Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres of the Foundation of Goodness and two schools in Anuradhapura and women's cricket in Jaffna. We thank David Knight and the Wendouree Cricket Club for the opportunity to participate.

22.01.2022 Our great bowlers - part one - 1900 to 1960 By Geoff Reilley There is something about those who choose to be part of the bowling fraternity that suggests their personality includes bravado and a liking for the physical challenges of the game. The truth is there is no golden rule suggesting someone gravitates to either batting or bowling, or wicket keeping for the matter. It generally eventuates out of sheer opportunity or at least that is how it happened for me and I was jus...Continue reading

22.01.2022 Our great bowlers - part two - the 50's, 60's & 70's By Geoff Reilley The late 1950’s and the early 1960’s allows me to provide more detailed information regarding our celebrated bowlers and also expands the coverage to include many who were not first eleven players but who contributed significantly across all senior elevens. In the late 1950’s and early sixties there was little involvement in finals by any of our senior elevens but there were some exceptional bowlers and hea...Continue reading

21.01.2022 We reclaim the Morrison-Stafford Shield as the 1st XI put the squeeze on Brighton Cricket Club after Johno Aikins (44) did it again with the bat. The 4th XI got home in the last over thanks to a 76 run 7th wicket partnership between Daniel Mahoney (37) and Ty Matthews (35*) - super stuff boys!

18.01.2022 Match Reports day one rd. 10 vs Elsternwick and Bayswater By Geoff Reilley Round 10 got underway despite rain during the preceding week that did affect the wicket to the extent our excellent groundsman would have not had as much time to roll and prepare as he would have liked, the result being that the wicket played very slow and batsmanship was tested in terms of patience and technique. The outfield was also very slow with only 16 boundaries in the 260 runs scored. There wa...Continue reading

11.01.2022 Update on junior grand finals after day 1 By Ty Matthews Just a quick update on our teams playing in Grand finals as we head into the second week...... U17 Well done to Tom and Aaron who both bowled exceptionally taking 4 wickets each and Zac who chipped in with 2 as well. U15 A evenly poised game with Caulfield making 126 cc with Young Fred making 48, with a strong bowling line up we have a score we can certainly defend. U13 A bit of a battle playing against a very good side in Mulgrave with a very consistent bowling attack only getting 34 on the board off 21 overs. Cricket is a funny game so you never know what can happen, but the experience the boys will get for a first year u13 team playing in the last game of the year will be priceless. A special shout out to Jonah Solomon who has come up from playing all year in the U11 team to help out the U13 team in the grand final due to Cameron's unfortunate accident in the semi final; he was smiling from one side of the face to the other on Sunday morning - great to see. Also a shout out to Cameron on a speedy recovery and was great to see him down Sunday morning and getting around the boys. Win or lose this Sunday let’s all get back to Caulfield Main pavilion from 1.00pm onwards as our 1st XI will be playing in a semi final against Kew. It will be a great opportunity to come together and celebrate our year with premierships or not, and also support our 1st XI as they continue on and try to make it playing in another Grand final. BBQ will be going, I will bring some snags down and bar will be open. Be great to see everyone down as all juniors are invited spread the word around.

10.01.2022 The Mid-Season Break By Geoff Reilley We reached the break is a reasonable position given all the circumstances that arose during the months October to December. Cancelled fixtures that resulted in re-scheduling of matches, poor weather early in the season, injuries to key senior players and a necessary changing of the guard in the first eleven certainly revealed an impairment but all teams go through periods of disruption from time to time. The sequel is we have been able to...Continue reading

09.01.2022 A new edition to the Caulfield Family! Congratulations to Al Bodycoat and wife Mandy on the safe arrival of their son Lewis Walter Bodycoat earlier this week! An exceptional clubman, Al has been a wonderful contributor for Caulfield since arriving 7 seasons ago, winning two 1st XI premierships, two 1st XI bowling averages and this season is completing his 5th in the key role of club secretary. Hopefully one day young Lewis follows in his dad’s footsteps!... We are thrilled to hear that Lewis and Mandy are both doing well, and on behalf of everyone at Caulfield we wish the Bodycoat family every happiness for what will no doubt be an extra special Christmas this year.

08.01.2022 Past Player in focus - Geoff Scott By Geoff Reilley I was delighted to receive a call recently from former player and committeeman, Geoff Scott. Geoff transferred to CCC from the Ormond Cricket Club during the 1965/66 season having become a good mate of a number of Caulfield players with whom he travelled overseas in the early sixties. 08.01.2022 Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence yesterday announced more than $1.4 million in grants for 15 projects in the latest round of the Community Cricket Program. Among the projects backed by the program included is $100,000 towards a five-wicket multi-purpose training facility at Caulfield Park! Once complete, the project will upgrade the existing three net Cage synthetic facility to a new five net multi-purpose training facility, complete with retractable nets and provide... a great training resource for the club. Cricket Australia have also agreed to contribute a total of $50,000 towards the project through the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund. It is hoped that the facility will be ready in time for the 2021/22 cricket season. With more than 235,000 registered cricket participants across the state last summer, Victoria is the national home of cricket. That’s why the Government is investing in modernising cricket facilities so that clubs and communities can cater for even more Victorians keen to be involved in cricket, particularly women and girls. When you consider the significant renovations of our club rooms during winter, the re-laid and levelled turf centre wicket square and new drainage for the surrounds on the Main oval and yesterday’s announcement, with thank the City of Glen Eira for their exceptional ongoing support of our club. We also thank the Victorian State Government, Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia.

07.01.2022 Under 17’s are premiers for season 2019/20! By Justin Toohey Congratulations to our Under 17 boys on a superb undefeated (8 wins from 8 games) season, capping off last weekend with a premiership, defeating close rivals Maccabi AJAX in the Grand Final. 06.01.2022 Not the weekend we hoped for leading into the break against neighbours Malvern Cricket Club with only the 4th XI securing a win. Inspired bowling performances from Nicholas Toohey (3/18), Blair Richards (3/24) and Thomas Williams (2/27) finished the job, but it was the ever reliable Peter O’Donnell (71) who continued his run of form and was the difference!

06.01.2022 Pink Stumps Day returns to Caulfield! Saturday’s final home and away round for season 2019/20 for our 2nd XI also saw the club host another highly successful Pink Stumps Day, raising funds for the McGrath Foundation. Just over 30 wives, girlfriends, friends and family members of current and past players came together to catch up for a beautiful afternoon over lunch and a few drinks under the trees at Caulfield Park, raising over $1,000 for this very worthy cause. ... President Pat Lennon addressed the ladies, updating them on the fortunes of the club and thanked them for their ongoing support. Ruth Hall, representing Bendigo Bank East Malvern branch also spoke, touching on her experiences in business and provided some simple tips for working towards financial security. It’s was great to see so many familiar faces including Sylvia Shipperd, Jane Lennon, Robyn Graf, Laurice Warren, Mary Stokes, Simone Richardson, Diane Harari, Jacqui Banks, Carol Seccombe, Mandy Taylor, Hannah Cohen, Amanda Matthews and Sharelle Knight, among others. Huge thanks to Karen Macdermid who was the driving force behind the day, ably supported by Karun McNamara, with Dave in support as always. 06.01.2022 Match Reports By Geoff Reilley Following yet another round of one day matches the win/loss ratio was unusual, to say the least - 2nd, 3rd and 4th elevens all winning and the 1st eleven defeated by the narrowest of margins (1 run on the last ball of the day). 05.01.2022 Match Reports rd. 3 vs Box Hill By Geoff Reilley Round 3 commenced with all teams playing Box Hill; firsts and thirds away. Our first eleven record against Box Hill is impressive. Box Hill joined the VSDCA in the 1965/66 season and since that time we have contested on 45 occasions for 26 wins, 13 losses and 6 draws. 04.01.2022 Looking good..... Tomorrow council’s contractors will start the excavation around the turf wicket square and installing the drainage. Turf will be installed after that. The warm weather will only see further improvement!

04.01.2022 THE RUN HOME By Geoff Reilley Despite rain and windy conditions prevailing on the Friday before the re-commencement of the season, three of our four senior elevens got underway. Although there were other Sub District games abandoned during the round, for covers to be disturbed to the extent of match cancellation there needs to be questions asked. ...Continue reading

04.01.2022 Life Membership for Braham Cohen! Congratulations to Braham Cohen on achieving life membership at yesterday’s 131st Annual General Meeting. Braham becomes the club's 90th Life Member in its 131 year history.... Braham’s senior career commenced in 2003/04 having come through our junior ranks. He was originally a wicketkeeper/batsman and quickly became a regular in the 4th eleven, often elevated to the 3rd eleven whilst developing his game. By the 2012/13 season his batting improved notably and his scores mounted almost reaching his first century in 2014/15 with a 95 for the thirds. In 2017/18 Braham’s maturity as a player resulted in him being awarded the captaincy of the 4th eleven and in 2018/19 Braham proudly led the fourths into the finals, reaching the grand final after two excellent victories in the qualifying and semi finals. Unfortunately Bayswater proved to be the best team in the grand final but Braham’s leadership and passion was acknowledged. Braham again led his team into the finals in 2019/20 only to be defeated in the semi-final by the strong, reigning premiers Bayswater. Braham is also a dual century maker for the 4th eleven. In addition to his great work looking after the 4th eleven, Braham has been a valued member of committee in the past with his technical ability in addition to being a current match committee member. As a past H W Little Best Club person winner, Braham’s all-round contribution to the club over the past 17 seasons has been highly valued and we congratulate him on achieving life membership.
