22.01.2022 Maclean CWA are proud to present our esteemed Scarecrow Judge for the upcoming Spring Fair. Jess of Causley Fresh - Grafton, Yamba and Maclean Wholesale has gla...dly agreed to take on this high stakes role! Jess has no experience in Scarecrow Judging, is an excellent knitter, (althoughsame may say otherwise) and astute business woman who enjoys long distance running. She has a mixed flock of gorgeous chickens (pictured below with her pride and joy Honey Soy) and is an all round local champion who always finds ways to support her community. We look forward to Jess' critique on Saturday!

21.01.2022 I’m actually trying to be a responsible citizen. I bought a face mask each for the staff. To protect them and others. Do you think they worked. No, no. They were terrible. So I knitted one instead. Here is the tutorial in case you’d like one too.... It protects really well against covid. I even got it almost scientifically proven. Well, a friend’s husband who is a doctor said that no self respecting virus will go anywhere near that thing. You will also die of suffocating well before Covid gets a chance to kill you. Anyway; my staff refuses to wear it. Can’t understand why.

19.01.2022 Last week sure was a tough one. We couldn’t get a border pass. Without Brisbane markets the business wouldn’t survive one day. They let us through yesterday and we believe it’s sorted. We are about as essential as it gets. Our other business is in Tweed. Before everything was sorted for the so called bubble; we stressed out big time.... I ordered 26 face masks from a nice local lady. I don’t go around counting our staff and was surprised 26 people work with us locally. I thought we were a tiny little business. All these people sneaked up on me. It was too wet for strawberries. Our biggest retail seller. My online bully, who is trying to break my business, (and lots of other businesses too) took it a step further. Bullied me in a chicken post. I totally deserved it as I might be a crazy chicken lady. Thank you for helping me see my faults. I’ll post some shameful pics of who I have become.

18.01.2022 Here is our pasta display. Looks pretty good if I may say so myself. Now it seemed like I made it myself and that’s good. But as my first born daughter is on FB I can’t lie. She actually did it. Not good, not good! I wanted to take the credit. ... No; I sure am proud of her. She has a great eye for detail and is very good at retail.

14.01.2022 Boxes of mangoes coming in tomorrow. $25 Yummy!

14.01.2022 Issy is over the moon about the $20 she made from her eggs last week. She thanked all chickens individually and let them know she will buy mealworms for the money. (Well; I will pay for the mealworms). Thank you every one who bought her eggs. ... More were dropped off in the shop today. She has 6 laying chickens and they sometimes lay 7 eggs/day. Hmm, Gertrude must have come of age a bit earlier than expected. In photos: Bethany who lays the big dark eggs and Dizzy who is recovering from sickness and isn’t laying. Honey Soy is too busy with her chicks to lay eggs.

11.01.2022 Issy has picked some goodies from her garden and the chickens have laid lots of eggs. Half price for Dizzy’s egg; they sure are tiny. Lucky she is both lovely and pretty as her egg laying qualities are questionable. There will be shallots, snap dragons, salad bags etc. Big sister Tahlia will bring them in tomorrow as she is is working.

08.01.2022 I do love my hampers. They sure are a lot of fun. I can do whatever you want. Perhaps not, but I can do all sorts. These are just examples. The Chilli Product one we made with Father’s Day in mind. ... If any businesses are thinking about Christmas already; I do bulk discounts. I’m doing an Australian only hamper. Let’s support each other now when times are tough for many. A North Coast Hamper is on its way.

06.01.2022 Rosie Bennett is not just a fantastic person in the shop. She is generally an abating human being.

06.01.2022 More of Issy’s eggs coming into the shop tomorrow. They sure are laying well despite being carefully selected for their ability to be pets. The covid home schooling garden is going very well too. The three older siblings have given up, but as of tomorrow Issy will sell some of her homegrown stuff in the shop.

03.01.2022 A little info about myself if anyone is interested. I studied hard at school to get into the esteemed university of scarecrows in my hometown of Gulmarrad. A leading university in its field. I became a scarecrowlogist in my early 20s. ... I have been judging scarecrows all around the world for 62 years. That’s where I picked up my accent. I often get called out to large farms for consulting work to protect crops. I recommended the use of Palmers Flannel for clothing. It’s produced in a secret factory at Palmers Island. If you ever wondered why there are no birds at Palmers; this is why. The straw I prefer is Taloumbi long grass. It’s smell repels the toad finch which causes the most crop damage in the valley. I’m one of the leading scarecrow judges in Australia according to myself. Tomorrow I’m judging the Maclean CWA’s scarecrow competition.

02.01.2022 Times are tough and to survive we have to eat crickets. If you can’t catch a sufficient amount yourself we have some from a Byron Bay producer.
