18.01.2022 For all the amazing therapists out there

18.01.2022 I see you taking your kid to therapy while your friends take their kids to football or ballet. I see you sneak out of the conversation when all your friends boa...st about achievements and exam notes. I see you juggle events and meetings. I see you sitting on the computer for hours investigating what your child needs. I see you make a bad face when people complain about what looks like nonsense. I see you disappear little by little but you keep going beyond for your family. I see you pull strength from weakness with a force you didn't even dream you had. I see you showing respect for teachers, therapists and medical professionals who help your child and help you. Watching you wake up early in the morning to do it all again after another chaotic night. I see you when you're on the edge of the precipice struggling to live. I know you feel invisible, like no one notices. But I want you to know that I see you. I see you push forward always. I see you choose to do everything you can to give your child the best care at home, school, therapy and the doctors. What you do matters. It's worth the struggle. On those days when you wonder if you can make it one more minute, I want you to know I see you. I want you to know that you are beautiful. I want you to know it's worth it. I want you to know that you are not alone. I want you to know that love is the most important thing, and that you are the best at it. And in those days when you see an improvement, those moments when hard work has its reward, and you can taste success, I'll see you then too. And I'm proud of you. Whatever day today... ...you're doing it right. And I see you. Alethea Mshar John Walker / Flickr

15.01.2022 The DEAI is excited to be relaunching the 4th National Developmental Educators Week. We invite you to join with the DEAI, fellow Developmental Educators, disabi...lity studies students, work colleagues, and other interested parties to celebrate the Developmental Educator profession from 7 - 11 December 2020. Our new dates fall on the same week that celebrates Human Rights Day. The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10 December in 1948. As such, Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. The UDHR is one of UN’s major achievements as well as the first enunciation of human rights across the world. It is the most translated document around the globe available in over 500 languages. 14.01.2022 Dear clients, families, carers and other support people I have been closely monitoring the Australian Government and the NDIA websites and have reviewed my service delivery. I will be able to offer individual sessions via video-conference or telephone services but unfortunately no face-to-face or group sessions. From Wednesday 25 March 2020, ALL GROUP PROGRAMS WILL BE SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. In individual sessions I can continue to work with clients on specific conce...rns. I am aware that some children may find it difficult to engage in these session, and will be modifying activities. We may also modify the length of time for sessions. If you are NDIS, you can also use these sessions as parent sessions without any changes to your fees, to help support you during this time. I am also offering mini-programs over the planned school holiday period as well as during any school closures. These will be one hour a day for 5 days a week. Social Comprehension Skills or Emotional Understanding and Self-Regulation would be the focus of these programs, whilst doing Minecraft, Movie Time (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Finding Nemo), or Book Club (Billie B Brown, Tom Weekly, David Walliams, Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid and so on). I will also be able to help with School-Related Skills or Problem Solving for school whilst working on reading, maths, and assignment help. I will email or post required resources (worksheets or materials) for use in sessions. I will also continue to create social story books for clients and their families too. Zoom is a free secure way of video conferencing. You will need to register for a free account and also download zoom to your laptop. I will send you an invite for your session from your email address on file. If you wish to make an appointment please email me at [email protected] or text/call 0403 434 147. Also, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am here to support clients as well as their parents and families. I wish you all the best during these challenging times. Kind regards Hafwen

10.01.2022 THE AUTISM SPECTRUM Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others. Autistic people see, hear... and feel the world differently to other people. If you are autistic, you are autistic for life; autism is not an illness or disease and cannot be 'cured'. Often people feel being autistic is a fundamental aspect of their identity. Autism is a spectrum condition. All autistic people share certain difficulties, but being autistic will affect them in different ways. Some autistic people also have learning disabilities, mental health issues or other conditions, meaning people need different levels of support. All people on the autism spectrum learn and develop. With the right sort of support, all can be helped to live a more fulfilling life of their own choosing.
