24.01.2022 It's finally happening! Tomorrow the Orient and Temple of Baal caves start having tours again! Due of the very limited number of guests that we are able to gu...ide through the caves at one time (6 guests for the Orient and 8 guests for the Baal - a very exclusive experience indeed!), we are offering our cave tours with either an accmodation or Chisolm's dining booking. Please be aware that we are only able to offer tours via pre-booking to ensure we can accommodate our guests. Please make sure you book in advance as we are unable to offer tours to non-booked guests, To ensure our business remains flexible and to avoid disappointment for our guests, we are only initially releasing tour dates for November and will release further tour dates two weeks in advance following that. This will enable us to adapt our operations if need be. We pride ourselves on the safety, comfort and enjoyment of our guests and as a result COVID-19 safe practices have been implemented for our cave tours. You can check out our Covid-19 safe plan, tour package details, see the current schedule and pre-book from our website. Keep an eye out here for the release of the new tour schedules as well as any news regarding further caves or tours being added. We can't wait to see you back at the caves! . #SeeAustralia @Australia #NewSouthWales @visitnsw @nswnationalparks #NSWParks @sydney @bluemountainsaustralia #visitbathurst #bluemtsaus #unearthcentralnsw #experience_oberon #bucketlist #westernadvocate #lithgowtourism #watchthisinstagood #travel #naturephotography #animalphotography #caves #nswenvironmentandheritage #oldbuilding #oldhotel #australia #earth #aroundtheworld #natureaddict #worldheritage #wombat #platypus #holidayherethisyear #emptyesky #wewantyouback

19.01.2022 REVISIT ~ Another one for your BUCKET LIST, or the SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ~ COXS CAVE Circuit walk, Mount Victoria ~ This is a must-do walk. Distance:... 2.75km Time: 70-90 mins return Kid-safe: Older children only with supervision Dogs on-leash: No Steps: Lots of them Accessible: No Heights: If you intend climbing into Coxs Cave, be warned its not suitable for little ones or anyone with a fear of high places. Park your car at the Mount Piddington Carpark, Mount Victoria, and follow the signs. START HERE>> https://w3w.co/army.crinkle.wham This cark park has limited space and is also used by climbers. The walk goes downhill for about 45 minutes and eventually follows a creek through the valley, which is really pretty. Youll then come to a cliff view over the valley, the track follows around to the right, it is hard to see. In about 15 minutes youll arrive at Coxs Cave entry ladder. The ladder is not for the faint-hearted. If you have a fear of heights, dont try it. We enjoyed lunch in the upper cave entry. The view was amazing. We enjoyed one of our "Fancy Lunches" in the mouth of the cave. : The top of the ladder is not the cave. Keep making your way up the slope. Once you get back down the ladder you turn left and start the climb out. Its about 500m to the carpark and its all uphill. The track condition isnt crash hot after the last rain, so take care. : You could choose the shorter walk directly to the cave. : Coxs Cave, was named after George Henry Cox, who was a fellow member of Parliament with William Piddington. NOTE: The loop walk to FAIRY BOWER is closed. Once youve finished your walk drop into Mount Vic and Me and check out some of Karas amazing designed products, especially her socks. 18.01.2022 This SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN for Sunday ~ New life in burnt gardens. The Gazette reports: The Campbell Rhododendron Gardens in Blackheath lost several hundred plants... in the fires which swept through just before Christmas. But thanks to some government grants, plus generous community donations and the efforts of dozens of volunteers, to date more than 200have been planted to replace them. Happily, some which burnt have resprouted. The gardens are at their flowering peak in October and November, although there is something in bloom virtually all year. Usually, the Lodge is open for Devonshire teas in spring but COVID-19 has stopped that. But the gardens themselves will be open, as they are 365 days a year. Entry is by donation of $5 per person (there is a donation tin near the carpark). Its a wonderful walk. : You can walk the full length of the old racetrack. Nature is slowly reclaiming it and its a paved surface all the way around. Park your car HERE>> https://w3w.co/availability.eyewitness.masters : Before white settlement, the traditional owners of the Gully the Gundungurra and Darug peoples used the Gully as a summer camp. In 1946, the area was developed as a tourist park. The Kedumba Creek which feeds to the Katoomba Falls was dammed, forming an ornamental lake. The shell of a Catalina PBY-5 flying boat was shipped up on a truck and installed in the middle of the lake, giving the area its informal name. People could pay to visit and play with the airplane controls, while speedboat rides were carried out around it. Tearooms, a miniature train, Ferris wheel, a merry-go-round, swimming pool, as well as a small cinema. On the 12th February 1961, the Catalina Raceway opened. 14.01.2022 REVISIT ~ The Glow Worm Tunnel, Newnes Plateau recently re-opened today. Add it to your BUCKET LIST. Youll need a torch or the torch on your phone. Maintain y...our Social Distancing and enjoy this exceptional walk, THE KIDS WILL LOVE IT! TIP: GET THERE EARLY, the road to the parking spot is very narrow in patches and parking is VERY LIMITED. Most of the road from the GWH is dirt, so be sure to take it easy, and drive to the conditions. The Glowworm Tunnel is a disused railway tunnel between Lithgow and Newnes. It is notable for its resident glow-worms. Drive until you get to the parking area. Its about a 2 hour return walk. PARK here: https://w3w.co/hillside.inclusive.comets The 600m tunnel was bored through the sandstone in 1907 as part of the Newnes railway line that served the Newnes oil shale mines that operated during the early 20th century. The railway was closed in 1932 and the rails were pulled out of the tunnel. The tunnel is now contained within the Wollemi National Park and is a popular attraction for bushwalkers and tourists. These photos were taken pre-fires so the landscape may be different now. 07.01.2022 Another on for your BUCKET LIST ~ The Cathedral of Ferns, Mount Wilson Thankfully, much of Mount Wilson escaped the 2019/20 fires and places like the Cathedral ...of Ferns today offers visitors a very special experience. The KIDS WILL LOVE IT. It is described as "Genuine rainforest with tree-ferns in abundance under a high canopy is now rare in Mount Wilson Conservation Area and such lush forest in an easily accessible location is rare in the state." Allow 30 minutes to explore. Best time of day would be mid morning as mid afternoon as the light enters at an angle through the ferns. MtWilson.com.au say: "Starting at the Picnic Ground, walk into the Cathedral of Ferns and watch out for the Giant Tree. This is a massive Messmate or Fastigata, which was sadly hit by lightning recently and has died. Wander up beyond it and the path will come out on a track. Turn right here onto the track, but then keep to the left all the time. Go through a gate with a hole in it (not the 'private property' one). Keep to the left track until you come back near to the Picnic Ground. There are lovely wild flowers here in October and November. The Cathedral walk is lovely in the mist. On a warm summer evening there are often fire flies in this area, just on dark." 03.01.2022 REVISIT ~ , Mount Victoria This is an amazing place to visit. It is quite a scramble to climb up to and its not for the faint-hearted. MAP: ht...tp://lnnk.in/@Bush-Rangers-Cave-Mount-Victoria Park where you can and walk the short distance to the track. Head down the Little Zig Zag track. Continue down until you see the Bushrangers Cave sign. The track to the cave lies some 50 metres to the left off the track at the third zigzag. This track is not well sign-posted. Allow 30 minutes for the return walk or continue on the Little Zigzag walk. MORE info: https://www.askroz.com.au//bush-rangers-cave-mount-victoria EVEN more info: https://www.askroz.com.au//bushrangers-cave-mount-victoria/ HISTORY: The assumption made by any casual visitor that a romantic bushranger once used the rock-shelter as a secret hidyhole is unjustified, although it was used by some one at some period in the nineteenth century as a camping place where an odd variety of possessions was left for discovery in 1897. Bushrangers Cave does not meet criterion (a) for its historical significance. Once youve explored the cave, drop into Mount Victoria and check out of of their great eateries and Mount Vic and Me. 03.01.2022 To follow up our post from Wednesday we d firstly like to give our sincere thanks to all our fans and followers who have been so patient and supportive since N...ovember. Its been a rough time for the region with fire, flood and pandemic. In fact rough is an understatement. But for standing by us you have our deepest gratitude Secondly we would like to address the main concern raised regarding the Blue Lake Restoration project, the timing. It will start on Monday, 13 July 2020 and take from 3 to 5 weeks to complete. Wall of text alert We are undertaking urgent works to restore Blue Lake to its former pristine condition following the devastating floods in February this year. While we understand the inconvenience of starting the project during the holidays it is important we start now to avoid disturbing the Platypus breeding season later in the year. Unfortunately, the timing of the project has only recently been decided after extensive assessments. These were necessary to ensure the well-being of wildlife as well as to determine the scope of the works, which are significant. We do apologize for the inconvenience and can understand the frustration this may cause. We would like to encourage you however to not think of it as a delay in getting to Jenolan but rather an opportunity to explore the surrounding region. Caves House is a great base to explore the area including towns such as Oberon, Lithgow and Bathurst as well as other attractions such as Mayfield Gardens We have prepared an information pack on all the things to do and see around Jenolan Caves and our region, which we can send via email or provide to you on arrival. Chisholms Restaurant is also open and provides the perfect setting and delicious meals to relax with family and friends. We have flexible booking arrangements and are happy to help We aim to get information to you as soon as we can, keep an eye on our webpage and social channels for updates as they become available. If you would like more info please dont hesitate to email or message us Finally while we encourage interaction and dialogue among our followers, we ask that these interactions remain respectful and polite to all involved. Stay safe See more
